- It seems counter-intuitive to set fires when you're trying to stop one, but that's exactly what firefighters are doing high atop Diamond Mountain Road in Napa County to contain the Glass Fire burning just a few miles from downtown Calistoga.

57% of California forests are Federal lands. The bulk of these fires are on Federal lands.

Thanks to The Nature Conservancy and Sierra Club and their ever so cozy relationships with Forest Circus leadership.
Pretty much the whole FS, PS and BLM systems are being run in a way that would make Bambi and Thumper proud.
But in a way that spells disaster in the real world. Genuine foresters and stewardship is required.

@James Miller Yep it is and it is under FS control . A little clue for ya townie, three years does not make up for four decades of neglect , and on it's best day the Federal system is slow as cold oil.
The "sheep" are the bunny huggers that allowed this situation to happen in the first place, and unless and until the radical greens from the Sierra Club and The Nature Conservancy are booted out of forest management and planning this will continue all over the west and get nothing but worse, as it has since the days of Clinton/Babbitt

Yeah right, they have all the resources doing these “control burns” in a leisure manner, but no resources to directly tackle the fire itself ! The aerial pictures show only a few hot spots not the entire mountain. You have to wonder why this never ending drama only happens to CA not elsewhere.
Job S It’s happening across the west coast because these states refuse to manage their forests properly. They’re overgrown, unhealthy, dry, tinder boxes waiting to ignite.

Glass fire???? I didn't know Glass burned...I guess that's why my family of Okies stayed here in Okra-Homer instead of gonin' to Californication in the 1930's...we had good sense!
Obviously with your okra-homer education is working for you, keep it up. Meanwhile in californication fires are named by dispatchers after the location their typically reported at. I guess okra-homer only has tornadoes, dust bowls, and bridge disasters. And yet our golden gate bridge is still standing. Cheers fellow merican!
they name fires after roads, landmarks or other notable areas where the fire started, also glass can burn in a way so maybe that mid west education failed

The mountain where the fire burned is called Glass Mountain. I lived on it. It's called that because it is all obsidian rock. Black rock you can throw it down and the rock will splinter into razor sharp chards.
I am ordering the fire department to come to my house to protect it from the fires. everyone has lost their homes I haven't lost mine yet, please protect my home.
