This is a lament dedicated to Circassian Exile. It's written in Kabardian dialect of Circassian and composed by the Circassian diaspora living in Turkey. Circassians or Adyghes the name they call themselves are native people to Northwest Caucasus. They were ethnically cleansed and forced to leave their homeland with some other North Caucasian people during the middle of the 19th century after they lost the long-lasting war against Russian Empire. According to the estimating numbers, 1,5 million Circassians died or exiled which was more than three quarters of their populations in that time due to mass killings, starving, drowning, epidemics etc. Today, most of them scattering around the world and only left a very small minority in their homeland. This version of the lament is short compared to the original. Only verse 2-3 are in this record. This is the complete lyrics in English:
      In my forefathers' courtyard,
The horses are being tethered to the cart.
      With a bleeding heart
I'm forced to desert the fatherland.
Oh, they are taking us to Istanbul!
Our path to Istanbul, our Via Dolorosa,
Oh, how thou twistest and turnest!
      My fair fiancée
Was left back in the hamlet.
Woe unto us, for exile is our lot!
      Oh, my sweet little sister,
      With thy tousled hair,
      The dear children
Are unable to break off with my embrace.
Alack, they are expelling us from our home!
      Oh, Great Circassian Banner,
      Ruffled by the wind,
      The news from the fatherland
      Who shall carry to us?
Alas, they are herding us to Istanbul!
