The calm of Colchester I have not found in any English town. Lovely people, great heritage and very convenient proximity to London. Left Colchester in the spring of 2010 but still think of it everyday my typical walk up to the North Station.
Lovely video. Would be great if a follow up showed Colchester's wonderful multiculturalism, with all the different ethnic and geographical backgrounds that our population is made up from. Good work!
Josh BtB just a bit wierd seeing only white faces in the video when Colchester has so many communities, thats all really. Wasnt a big thing. Think the video is great. Just thought the inclusion of some ethnic mix would have made it even better and more accurate. :-)
Its the forgotten hinter land..!!! There is a cormorant that sits regularly near one of the houseboats and fishes in the river. At the moment there are over 100 Avocet on the lagoon, spectacular flying displays.

almost right. It was the capital of Britannia (Roman Britain) during the Roman era of British history. However, it was never the capital of "England" - that name is anachronistic, as England wasn't founded until the Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain after the empire fell.
One of the first people in Colchester were Belgian Celtic tribes. They have a lot of Belgian Celtic DNA from the Atrebates, Nerviërs and 2 smaller Belgian Celtic tribes.

Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk where I live is also not far from Colchester has the same peaceful vibe...
It's a very nice town, with some great history - I know that very well since I grew up not far from here at all
My ancestorbought property in Dedham in the yesr 1200 the record of sale is still in Colchester Feet of Fines records .
