IMSA racing is pure badass. Incredible top to bottom of the grid, very high level driver talent, always close competitive racing, outstanding race cars, wonderful tracks, and an absolutely delightful and very knowledgeable broadcast team.
I just want to say thank you Road Atlanta and to all that make this happen for us fans it's was amazing race will see you guys again next year thank you
Sad to say this but the DPI prototype drivers need to chill out and give the GT cars some space ... they kept talking about tire and marbles when passes kept being attempted in terrible spots .
BlueFlag Alpha DPi is an IMSA specific class based on 4 homologated LMP2 chassis: Ligier, Oreca, Riley/Multimatic, Dallara. Manufactures select a chassis and add specifics not limited to their own bodywork, engine, and suspension.
yup, chip ganassi (the people who run the fords as a factory team) are currently trying to get a privateer slot so they can keep running the ford GT in IMSA
Was there that day first ever race iv been to enjoyed it so much definitely a fan now gonna go back next year you real cant describe the feeling it gives you when the cars fly into the corners at 100 mph you feel the sound when they first started got dizzy cuss it was so loud but what a rush the Ford and Ferrari where battaling out the whole race and the Cadillac and Mazda where neck and neck best 10 hours if ever spent
Mr NiceKnife I was at the Race. I’m tempted to agree, but I think it’s mostly just the nature of Road Atlanta, they didn’t have time to wait until the back straight or front straight for every pass
The problem is they dont have any LMP2 to fill a feield. DPI cant just lose momentum or scrub speed every turn and then the guy behind blows past you. Get the GT cars off the track and get 6-8 more LMP2, carry these on as seperate races or go somewhere else... GT are just too slow for this track against aero cars.
If they pass the GT cars like gentlemen their rivals will pass them. As the much faster car you can wait. I kinda agree they pushed the issue some but it's up to the slower car to see it coming.
i was almost crying when the mazdas gearbox exploded at the last second, i was really worried about them deciding to pit, but theyve just had bad luck all year. I think it was definitely to do with the launch on race restart, since they ALWAYS do poorly seems like they pushed it too hard there and broke it right away. they had such a good pit strategy up until that point and some amazing racing to watch in person. Overall an amazing race with an amazing finish! EDIT: looks like they didnt even show it, but right before the caution, the Mazda dpi had pulled out a good lead, and pitted for tires to be right in third the second the yellow came out, but like i said on race restart had a bad launch and then got stuck in a high gear and couldn't shift. so the wheelin had 2 cars break in the last 20 minutes to give them the win
Daytona is too lit up at night unfortunately though. The stadium lights around the track aren’t at 100% power but still too much light for the rolex24 compared to here and Sebring.
The 55 Mazda? Yeah, didn't do as good as their teammate in the 77, who sadly got a 6th place finish after how well they drove for a majority of that race.
By cars ended up with some sort of engine trouble, being at the track I could hear that were running down a cylinder or something but didn't sound good
After attempting to watch previous races on NBCSN, I opted to wait for the highlights to be uploaded to TH-cam, rather than watch live and have constant commercial interruptions every 2 minutes. Honestly, NCBSN is atrocious when it comes to covering these races.
Overall a good season for IMSA minus Penske winning. Sad to see the Fords gone next year in GTLm, now the Porsches won't have much competition. Hopefully Keating does well in the Ford in GTD next year.
Jinnie Prototype class split this year, and it lowered entries. Will see higher grids next year. Six race schedule with Daytona a non points race for LMP 2
Who's watching before they go to 2020 Petit Le Mans?? Super pumped!! Feel free to reply and let me know if you want to meet up! I'll be staying Weds-Sat 😊
Thank you IMSA for including the NBC broadcast team in these highlights so we don’t have to listen to John Hindhaugh scream and make a million mistakes and while Jeremy Shaw corrects him.
Justin bustin it’s badged as a Mazda but it’s not actually an engine built by Mazda employees. It’s just paid for by Mazda money. Same goes for the “Mazda” Road to Indy engines, they’re all similar AER 2.0 I4 turbo engines badged as Mazda’s.
Things I learned in Atlanta: Atlanta is not Atlanta to the locals. Instead this city is accurately referred to as "Hotlanta" and/or "Fastlanta" due to the ridiculously hot southern climate and the meaninglessness of speed limits on the freeway. Never go anywhere at night without security. Always pick the best lodging. Not doing so will get you killed. And finally, anywhere but Atlanta is the best place in Georgia, but Savannah and Charleston are so much better. Especially the food. My wife said the other day, "if I had to be in Ga, then Savannah, but why there when you could go to Charleston."
never disappoints!? I was extremely disappointed!! The whole race mazda looked fantastic, and again like 2016 in the final moments of the race it ends terribly. Then for my GTD team to come up half a lap shy after an entire day of solid performance? Never disappoints, psh. I will say though, I was extremely impressed with the lack of FCYs.

There aren't any LMP1s in this race.
