Back in the 80's, middle school, Knight Rider was the TV show most talked about during school time, so much memories, and lately, I've been catching up with Knight Rider on Netflix. This was a really really good TV show.
One man did make a difference... Thanks Jack for your skills and professionalism and dedication from bringing KITT to life to helping make Knight Rider so believable and enjoyable. I know you were all a team, but you were an integral piece of the machine. Much respect 👏😎
Thankyou to Jack for taking the time to do this interview and the wonderful Jacob .Also The Knight Rider Historians for sharing this video.Exyremley interesting video Joe.
Thank you guys and Jacob and especially thanks to Jack Gill for a wonderful interview. All of the wonders that were a part of Kitt from the blind drive to the jumps and e everything between were thanks in large part to Jack and his wonderful team of stunt and special effects people.Kudos!!
It's a different feeling watching the original knight rider as there was no cgi. As advanced as cgi is you can't beat real life stunts in terms of realism.
Really good interview. Jack Gill seems to be the real deal, just like he's describing the chemistry between the entire cast. Hope he and Hasselhoff are gonna be a part of the new Knight Rider series or movie. Thank you Jacob Pedersen!

Another great video. To everyone involved with Knight Rider Historians including all the collaborators, you are doing a great job. Essential viewing for KR fans everywhere
Jack Gill when he worked on the dukes of Hazzard he would double John Schneider. John is scared of heights so when Bo and Luke are on a roof going across a board that was Jack.
Excellent interview and extremely interesting :) The story about schoolkids hitting and denting KITT cracked me up, I was school kid as well back then and I remember I was a bit confused about KITT, what's real and what's TV magic :D I was sad when Knight Rider ended, but I guess 4 seasons were indeed a lot for expensive 80's action show like this. For example Street Hawk lasted only one season. Big thanks for this video :)
I Strongly agree with Jack Gill the original team of Knight Rider needs to be involved in any reboot of the show from production, cast ,makeup artist etc. That's what happened with Knight Rider 2000 all the elements were not there meaning the original crew!!
Three issues with that: 1) Edward Mulhare, who portrayed Devon Miles, died in 1997 2) nearly all of the surviving stars are in their 60s or even pushing 70 years old. David Hassellhoff is 68 years old as of this writing. 3) William Daniels, the voice of KITT, is 92 years old. Let's not forget that the Firebird hasn't been produced by GM since 2002, and Pontiac was closed as a division in 2009.
Yes I know the legendary Edward Mulhare passed so they would have to use another person to do that role but make Reference to Edward's chracter and legacy .William Daniel's can still be Kitt and David,Patricia and Peter can all come back ! The new sixty and Seventies age is not old David Hasselhoff is still living his best life!!
Knight Rider.."One man.can make a difference"...Special show with good actors like David Hasselhoff ,william daniels, Peter Parrros Renecca Holden patricia mcpherson and edward mulhare..writing, story telling with heart soul as well including kitt too!..
Oh my, that was really an excellent, enjoyable interview! Jack Gill is a real professional and he must still be attached to the series. I really love his view of the series crew "family". All that work,, everything around the series - now one can see what is behind, hard work, pain, excitement, friendship, genuine professionalism...whatever. Well, yes - it is always money behind everything. Which is sad. Thank you very very much.
It seems like Jack's memories clash with the information you present in your "not director commentary" series. He states that they went through 40 cars a season...Pontiac provided all the cars for $1 a car...the rubber car shell was created at the middle of the second season. I guess he doesn't remember all the details of the series.
Yeah, the rubber shell is clearly visible in the earliest episodes, so it was there from the very beginning for sure. But hey, it's been almost 40 years. 1982. I'm surprised he remembers as much as he does. Still very cool to listen to. They were wrecking cars for sure in the earlier episodes as well though. Seeing how damaged the jump car was after the jump from Slammin' Sammy's for instance... The frame being all bent, the chassis having the shape of a banana. There's no way they could have repaired that and use the car again on another jump. So while I don't think they actually went through 40-60 cars each season, it must have been a lot.
40-60 for the whole season run is probably a more realistic number, what ever the true number it's way more than the 20-25 cars that this channel seems to think they used though the whole run...no chance
@@AL-ud2is I think they mean 20 - 25 "normal" KITTs, meaning hero cars, insert cars, stunt cars, the convertible, the SPM car, that sort of thing. I think they exclude jump cars. Those jump cars were mostly used cars I believe. I remember reading in the 80's or 90's that people from the show would buy used cars or cars that where in an accident, fixing them up and using them for jumps and so on.
Actually David Hasselhoff also stated in interviews that they broke dozens of KITTs. He even said "in on week we broke 9 cars" So Jacks memories appear to be correct. Also, it is more likely that the people that actually WORKED on the show know these things better than some fans.
Amazing interview with Jack Gill. I agree with him about how Knight Rider should come back. It should have the essence of the show but darker. Just as they did with Batman. The original show was Kid safe but as we the show evolved has been more intense but with the essence of the cape crusader. The same should be for Knight Rider not the transformer wanna be as they did on the 2008 version. Thanks for sharing these great documentaries..
That was an amazing interview thank you so much! Ps I would so be into a Knight Rider remake! and with today's CGI and compositing you could do so much more and it would be less expensive.
Sort of off topic but does anyone know if the Indian Dunes jump over the river they did with KITT (and the General Lee jump in the same location) is in the same spot as the infamous 1982 Twilight Zone helicopter crash?
THANK YOU, JACK! (HOpefully he sees this) Berrry Interesting Interview! It woulda been nice if the pilot had had rubber she'll with Devin saying here try the Hammer!
That was very interesting, I would love to hear more on the new movie? It's exciting to hear they are actually doing it this time , I was 10 when knightrider came to an end it was a sad time I've been a fan since it started and will be forever.
That was a wonderful interview. As a long time fan of the show it was so cool of you to talk with Jack Gill about this. Would Knight Rider be the same today if it was remade? I just don't know.... it would be awesome to give it a go.
You could say he was much more then stunt coordinator. He was also an actor, director, and so much more besides of that! Funny I was last week asking my self how he was doing in the current time. I was wondering if radio control was an option to do the stunts with and did a car survived with a super pursuit mode?
As a little background, I got the idea and the interview also took place during the worldwide lockdown in april 2020. It was indeed a thrill to do an interview with a legend such as Jack Gill. He was the man giving us the goosebumps in the stunt scenes. After the interview I showed Jack my KITT-replica (build by Danmarks Knight Rider aka. Rasmus Kramer and Johnni Pedersen), but sadly the footage of these enjoyable five minutes is very poor quality.
What a entertaining interview. I have one question for jack. Would he prefer to work in the 80’s where it seems to you think of a stunt, design, tweak and perform in a very short time?
Sure did. Fast 5 has a bonus section detailing a lot of the stunt work. Him, his brother Andy, and Spiro Razatos are involved in the next few movies. The bonus sections of those films are almost better than actual films. Almost.
Jack talks about how they used sped-up footage to get some of the high-speed effects for KITT. He says he "took it easy" to get turns and such to look as smooth as possible, in order to look realistic when the framerate is sped up to get the effect. When I watch those shots from back then, the thing I notice that's most incongruous with reality is the reaction of the car's suspension to impacts: The bounce/ringing is too quick, and the dampening ends up looking way too agressive. Does Jack ever talk about modifying the suspension for accelerated-framerate shots? I would think that re-tuning for a longer "bounce", like having it ride more on the springs and increasing ride height/travel to do long bounces like a Buick would look more realistic when sped-up, and I wonder if Jack has ever seen that/done that/commented on how that is or isn't done, in the past.
Very informative and entertaining interview....It's why CGI sucks azz, as do most movies now....fake is always fake, and the eye usually can't be tricked...

The cgi they had was mostly the lasers in trust doesn't rust episodes I think and few others as well like that halloween episode.
