Rape back then was a taboo thank god things have slightly changed since then it's never ever that person fault. Brookside was one of the tv programmes I used to watch with my mum and nana. I used to love watching it although I was to young to understand at the time what storylines was about. It was fantastic to know years later to talk about these subjects like rape and sexual assault. It brought people talking and attitude to rape have really come along lots of storylines and soaps have done rape storylines from coronation street to hollyoaks emmerdale and eastenders have all done rape storyline it was because of brookside. I thought the acting in brookside was superb fantastic storylines

This definitely caused discussions but I don’t think EastEnders was influenced by Brookside since they’d already had a storyline about rape a year before and the second storyline they had was vastly different from Sheila’s. Emmerdale had also already had a character be raped but hadn’t done a proper storyline I believe. Coronation Street took a quite a few years to make a storyline and when they did it was not received well but thank god times have changed anyway and now we’re getting proper storylines surrounding consent that are very needed.

Some powerful storylines played out during Brookside Reign, loved Rachel grew to love Annabelle and Katie was a little gem, paul annoyed me so much such a snob, Lucy was annoying also. Of course love Barry Grant bk then, and little Damon was fun, and Karon very wise.

@@JulieRushworth Not at all.She was a selfish person who was a nag and pushed Religion down her family's throat. She did suffer a terrible trauma and that was awful but even before that she was a whinge. Fast forward to the 1990s when she was with Billy C, she was even worse
