Not true they only have to read you your rights if your under arrest. They do not have to read your rights if your "under investigation or detained". Most people don't know that.

Like I said though they may go ahead and search it anyway but at least your lawyer can challenge the search in court because ordinary traffic stops don’t lead to searches. They need more than whatever traffic citation they come up with.. but if you say it’s okay to search.. it’s over.. all bets are off. If you don’t consent to a search they ‘ll just call their K-9 unit. If the dog hits on your car that’s their probable cause.
