    Thanks for the awesome demo (the sound samples were great). I love my Ibanez SRFF and wish this had tighter string spacing but it's an amazing bass.

      Thanks! Yeah, the string spacing was actually the main reason I slept on this bass for so long, without actually trying it first. I really do think the Endurneck makes the wide spacing less noticeable. I've tried thicker necks with the same spacing, and they just felt massive in my hands.

      Thank you, I got mine in and there is a unplayable structural issue right out of the box. I always buy from reverb as an insurance policy even if a company claims to give you a “warranty” because of their 7 day refund protection. So far this has been a total nightmare, tomorrow I will know if I have to issue a refund or not seeing how the company and also the sales rep on the reverb store have not gotten back in touch with me. I would like an exchange or a permanent fix but as of now I’m waiting to hear back from them.. I’m always so apprehensive to spend thousands of dollars with a company I don’t know and this is exactly why

    I've been eyeing getting an NS Design CR5 after I played one on stage as a guest back in 2018. Was blown away. But it doesn't have individual string intonation/height. But it does have a piezo and I love the full tone it imparts. But this Brandberg has me slowing down to reconsider. Thanks for the great rundown. I'd love to hear unprocessed sounds, though.

    • @gsimongear

      Thanks! The NS seems interesting, but yeah, the single saddle for all the strings was a little off-putting for me. I've never tried one in person, to be fair.

      @@gsimongear oddly enough, the CR5 was the one bass I've played in 30yrs that invited me into the second register of the fretboard, even on the B string. Somehow, perfectly intonated and inviting. Super low action, too. It's worth a look.

    Cool demonstration! Please make a comparison video between Strandberg vs Dingwall vs Spector. I would love to see all these multiscale comparison.

    • @gsimongear

      Thank you! Unfortunately, I had to let the Spector Dimension go to make room for this guy. I do think the Dimension and NG2 are in a totally different realm than this bass though. While they're all multiscale, they're nothing alike beyond that - 34-37 feels and sounds much different than 33-35. I think this bass is a direct competitor to the Ibanez EHB MS series. I tried one in a Guitar Center and wasn't impressed, but it was so poorly set up and ill-maintained that I don't think I gave it a fair try.

    • @jimclaypool2662

      Cool. But imho Strandberg is freaking expensive! And why did you let the Spector go? And how does it compared to Dingwall? In terms of playability and Low B string? I'm actually confused between Spector and Dingwall. I like the Spector dimension HP series. Its also cheaper than Dingwall Ng3.

    • @gsimongear

      @@jimclaypool2662 I prefer the NG-2. Tonally, I think it does the growly-extended range tone better than the Dimension, likely aided my having a bridge & middle pickup. Dingwalls (and the Strandberg) have their neutral fret at 7, but the Dimension has it at 9. This means that things feel nicer on the Dimension higher up on the neck, but down on the first few frets (where Iike to stay), the fan is really extreme. Fretting the first fret on the B-string was a little challenging for me.

    First time I found the Fishman sounding okish. I still prefer about any other pickups though. Your playing is awesome as always though!

    • @gsimongear

      Thanks Frederick! I really appreciate it. Yeah, the Fishmans definitely work better here than other basses, but give me the choice between the Nords on the Boden Prog bass, and I'd take those any day.

    • @frederickdoyon

      @gsimongear yes the nords are much more "natural" sounding. I even much prefer EMG to Fishman if I really wanted active pickups. The Fishman are too scooped and the high-end is "clicky" to me. It's always hard to describe tone lol

  • @klaymeister

    Do you think you'll want to swap the Fishmans out at some point?

    • @gsimongear

      I think so. It's tough because it's a good enough tone to not make it feel like an urgent upgrade, but enough to where I always wonder, "What if?".
      If I do, I'd probably do EMG JX's or Aguilars. Not sure!

      Thank you so much! I'm using the Quad Cortex B3K plugin for both. On the Passive voicing, it's split between clean compressed low and distorted high, while on the Active voicing, I'm just setting the overall distortion to a lower value with a single channel.

    Great sounding bass in every setting, that was a surprise to me since I too don't like fishman fluence. If only they had one with 16.5mm spacing.

    • @gsimongear

      Thanks for watching! Yeah, I was mentally prepping to swap the pickups soon after getting it, but I was pleasantly surprised by the single coil mode meeting all my needs. Maybe I'll swap in the future, but I'm pretty happy as-is.
      After shifting away from Warwick basses a little bit, I've found myself getting more comfortable with wider string spacing. Would I prefer it closer at the bridge? Maybe. But if I hadn't measured it, I probably never would've thought about it!
