Thanks for posting this. I've been wanting the rear seats gone for a while but didn't as I was a bit worried about getting in over my head or doing something irreversible. Quick and easy thanks to your bothering to record and post this.
You are THE BEST! omg why didn't I watch this BEFORE trying to get out my seat??!! Fark. Bless the practical people in the world such as yourself. And amaze balls socket set too btw
Thank you so much!! We followed this video step by step and installed a sleeping platform, which was great! Now we're attempting to put the seats back in, and wonder if you'd do a vid on that too? We will try working backwards, but I wonder if there are any things we should watch out for...
thisdreamlife I'm not sure if you every found out how, but there's a rectangle piece on the cable. There's a clip you have to push out, then you can adjust cable legnth to fit. Then just slide the cable all the way out, and reinstall the clip.
sorry for the late reply (1 year haha). I don't have a re-install video, however if you were skillful enough to take out the seats, I'm confident you mastered the re-installation :)
You probably figured it out by now, but for anyone else: The second dongle on the line with the red tab and the spring needs to be released. Pop up the red tab thing and that should allow you to compress the spring forward and you'll see the wire end come out more that lets you rehook it. Once done, just click the red tab back down.
Can i remove the left side first because i want to acces to my fuel level unit by the floor(do you know if it possible to acces of that by removing the floor carpet)???
Hi @eMBeeN Thanks for your video, you helped me disconnect my seats so that I could replace my old car carpet which had a shocking mould issue! I am having massive issues trying to re connect these cables now.. SO hard to line them up again. I feel like I'll break them and I'm worried I've already done some damage as the whole thing kind of fell apart while I tried to re connect... Any tips? Trent
Good to hear you got the seats out. I suggest taking the cable housing off the seat mounts (if you haven't already). This should allow slack in the line for easier reinstall. Will have to call upon your finesse skills. If you got what it takes to remove, you got what it takea to reinstall👍
At the end of the video it appears the area where the seats were is not level with the trunk, or boot as you guys call it across the pond. Why is that?
Why didn't they make them removable like in the previous generation? Don't know why more cars don't have removable rear seats, as an awful lot of people like myself hardly ever use them. Apart from 2nd generation RAV4 I can only think of the skoda yeti where this is possible.
Terry I took my rear seats out from new and for 10+ years everything was fine. Now I am told Spain has changed the law and sure enough my car has just failed its inspection on that very issue so I am having to re-install them.
Hi, thanks for the video! Can I ask why you removed the seats? Also, do you know of a relatively easy way to remove the center cup holder from the seat without removing the seats completely? Thanks
@@embeen9547 Hi there, I really appreciate your how to video. I'm also wanting to remove my back seats to build a bed platform, I was wondering if you still have the dimensions of the empty space?
Big thanks for this video. I posted a thread about this back in 2010 at RAV4World --> www.rav4world.com/forums/98-4-3-interior/79819-need-help-fast-rear-seat-removal.html For the life of me, I could not get the rear seats removed. Finally some guidance on how to do it. Will try this weekend. BTW: How much would you say the seats weigh a piece? Total? I was removing them for racing purposes (to save weight), not for increasing cargo capacity.
+Myxalplyx Xylplaxym You are a life saver. Thank you a bunch. I plan on going racing tonight in my RAV4 and after 5yrs of owning this, I was able to remove the rear seats. The driver's side seat is 27.3kg (60.2lbs) and the passenger side seat is 20.5kg (45.2lbs). Saved a total of 47.8kg (105.4lbs). Awesome!
My driver's side piece is being a pain in the butt, trying to put it back in. The metal wire is not extended out far enough for me to push inside that small hole. Been fighting it for a good 20 minutes earlier so I stopped before trying again. Just a heads up in case someone else does or tries this. Not sure how to make the wire extend out more.
Great and useful showing ! Your accent sounds from " down under ", at just the opposite side of the world. Thank you from Italy. Sergio

It worked! Successfully removed the seats from my 2006 RAV4 by following this. Many thanks!

Awesome. Thank you
👍Thanks!
Legend. Thank you bro
In my old rav4 2003 back seats had a mechanism for easy removal. I am a bit disappointed it got removed in subsequent models.
Thanks
So how do you go about putting them back. I am having a difficult time getting them reconnected

I did it. Thanks!!
you made this rav4 faster with weight reduction

Will this be the same for a 2009 rav4?
The 2009 Rav4 looks very similar. I haven't tried it but think it should work. 🙂
yes
Yeap the exact same.
Did you have to turn off the car battery off before removing seats ? Or for older models is not needed?
No I didn't - not for this model. The seats aren't connected to any type of electrical circuit.
At the end of the video it appears the area where the seats were is not level with the trunk, or boot as you guys call it across the pond. Why is that?
There is a compartment for a spare tyre/tire and storage which is why it's no flat 🙂
Legal!! Difícil de achar essas informações.

Hi Travis. I removed the seats to build a bed in the back with storage underneath. I'm not sure how to remove the center cup holders sorry.
@@embeen9547 Any video/pics of your backseat build? This looks like a great vehicle for this kind of thing!
@@TATMSW Sorry no pics but you surprisingly gain a lot of storage room by removing the rear seats. Can comfortably sleep 1 adult.

lost my airpod and its stuck in there ty
А как трос обратно прицепить?
My rear seats just won't line back up after I've removed them. I'm so frustrated
Okay I got it :)
Buy a new one.
@@catrashoo wow thanks, that's so helpful

Puede explicarme con más detalle?
How do you put them back 😂

+Myxalplyx Xylplaxym I say you will save about 25kg in total. A little tricky maneuvering out the rear door but you should be fine
+Monty Nguyen Only 55lbs total...for the removal of both seats? Noooo! I was hoping it would be closer to 100lbs. At least 75lbs or so. :-( Thanks!
