Another subtext is the reference to another train meal scene introducing two characters to each other, between Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint in North by Northwest.
gosh, i am so pleased that you are analysing one of the two best scenes of Casino Royale which I consider to be the best Bond movie ever (the other scene is the opening scene in Prague where we get the learn the meang of the double 'o'
in the opening scene, Bond is so dirty, so clumsy, so un-Bond-like with his first kill; but he is such a fast learner, his second kill is already very well considered.
keep up the good work with your channel... I see that you also are analysing one other very well written movie the Knight's Tale... very happy I discovered your channel
You nailed it. It was this scene that forced me to take Bond films seriously and not consider it screen fluff. I loved all the Connery films but the writer of this scene made spy films actually sexy rather than trying to ram sex down your throat, pardon the pun. I remember taking a slight breath of surprise when I saw it, cinema in its purest artistic form on a level different to the novel.
They work for the English secret service/a criminal organization like careerists, I don't care if he's a good or bad boy and his passive-aggressive flirting, the scene is just cringeworthy.
The scene in Casino Royale with the best text/subtext is the scene in the restaurant after Bond wins the tournament.
