    I don’t know what variety this one is . - Do you do seeds in the fall or spring??
    I am from Canada and I tried it both ways.
    I have a white origami Columbine that I lost last year.
    This year, I have 2 baby plants.

    that's an amazing plant ripley. how old do you think it might be? i'll try and hunt down a cultivar. later, carmine p.

      ripley: all i can conclude is that it is aquilegia McKANA'S giant hybridized in multicolors. the color variations are so large that one can't brake it down. good luck. cp.

      @@carminepetracca7518 isn't it incredible?! :) That was one that I have tagged as possible option. I'm thinking it must have been cross pollinated with some other species as well. Still have yet to have anybody say they've grown one of this size

    What type of soil does Columbine prefer ? How often do you fertilize it ?

    I have these in the same colour, a mauve, pink form of Aquilegia vulgaris.

    I used to live in Wausau Wisconsin. There we’re several Columbine plants growing well when I moved in. They really grow well there.

    I had one grow the same as this, im in the u.k.
    Mine was a purple variety, i found one little clump of it and didn't know what it was at first but loved the leaves so i transplanted it into my newly dug border and by the next year it was HUGE! I think its because the place where my garden was used to be allotments and the soil smelled really fertile under there..unfortunately i had to leave all my plants behind when i moved but luckily i have recently discovered loads of columbine popping up everywhere in my new garden! And red valerian everywhere too..looking forward to seeing what colour my new columbines are, i bought loads of seeds but not gonna need them now so will throw them to nature instead.

      They are such pretty flowers in my opinion. Possible a really good soil structure of mycorrhizae fungi which would create a huge boost as well. Growing plants is just so much fun isn’t it? Haha you never know what sort of surprises you will come upon

    Columbine tend to scorch and die back in the summer in my area. Any tips?

    • @ExpeditionHomestead
      @ExpeditionHomestead  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is very typical to happen in late summer. Keep watered thouroughly and feed yearly if you don't already. But when it dies back there not much else you can do besides prune it back to 1 inches above the soil to help it along the following year.

    • @ExpeditionHomestead
      @ExpeditionHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Never fertilized it besides the small amount of fertilizer that was in the soil. It must’ve liked something in the soil though!
