That section about Black media is soooo good and so right! Because I've found the whole no black pain movies discourse so reductive. Like you can say you want variety without saying that these other stories are unnecessary or unneeded
omg i JUST finished homegoing last week and i’m so obsessed with it, i was just preaching to my librarian about how she needs to read it!! im excited to hear you rave about it because i know these types of books are your favs
I read "Before I let go" and didn't love it because I really did not enjoy Josiah's pov at all, reminded me way too strongly of guys who say they love their wives but do the bare minimum. BUT!! When I read "This could be us" I was so pleased because I knew Kennedy Ryan had something I enjoyed. A much better read, better characters and overall much more personal growth by the main leads then we got in her other novel.
You have such a great way with explaining and talking about topics I swear, the way you talked about black stories was so important and well said, I often feel like people should study your videos at university
Great reading vlog!!! I love hearing your criticism for books but even more- I love hearing you rave about books you thoroughly enjoyed! I also love what you said toward the end about black media & also about people complaining about not being able to “relate” to characters in books. I believe those types of people that can’t open their third eye to the beauty of story-telling enjoy a more niche type of media that is a little more surface level & lacks nuance conversations (which is fine, sometimes you wanna just turn your brain off). They can’t seem to wrap their head around it which is quite a shame to the book, the author, & the characters. Idk if I make sense.. but you have a great ability of articulating words & your meaning better then I ever will so kudos to you, Kenya 😭
I just finished Leftover Woman, it’s considered a thriller, sort of a domestic thriller involving a Chinese woman & a rich white mom in NYC and her adopted Chinese daughter. I gave it a 4/5
I don’t know if *EYE* would consider it a thriller because so much of it focuses on the Chinese woman’s experience getting married young, moving to America, and being an immigrant in NYC & it’s not exactly the dramatic thriller people like *but* I do see why it’s labeled a domestic thriller
Ooh, The Catch. I have yet to read one of your 5 star reads that has a low(er) goodreads rating and not love it. Thank you for being the push I needed to read Family Lore and The Lifestyle!
To your point of those writing swirl romances for crossover appeal, there are a couple of black authors who write exclusive white characters for the same reason... I guess they have to get it any way they can
Miss Kenya, yes! I am here. I am there. I am everywhere for Black Girl Unlimited 🫶🏿 Rip to Echo Brown. I can't wait to hear your review of this one. 🙏🏽
"Get over the fact your fav is dead" Is such an unserious sentence when speaking about family loss 😂🤣
I was listening to this at work, and I physically stopped in my tracks to laugh.
I raced to the comments when she said that😂😭😭😭😭

As a toddler mom I am jealous of these mythical 10 hour nights of sleep you speak of

Genuinely love this for you!! I need this same energy for myself tho 😭
Idk what to comment but the vibes were immaculate. Emptying my dishwasher atm.
i read shark heart, it was a little cheesy at some points but it had me crying through a lot of it.
I have HomeGoing, I still need to read it!
I feel like I’ve had it for a few years now 🤦🏿♀️
I’m so excited that you enjoyed Black Girl Unlimited. I gave it 5 stars as well. The sequel The Chosen is good as well.
I’m back into thriller too and I’ve been binging on Alice Feeney this month. It’s perfect to listen on audio and the narrator is 👩🏾🍳💋
I’m sending you love and a great year overall (:
My toxic trait is thinking I’ll read all of Kenya’s 5 star picks 😅😅😅😅

Homegoing is my favorite book ever so I clicked on this so fucking fast
I preferred This Could Be Us" over "Before I Let Go". Please make it a bookclub pick

Girl I’m half way through the lies we tell and it’s giving three stars 🤬 but ima see: these timeline changes are abrupt. She can write tho
I clicked this video fast when I saw it.

When you mentioned you went to Africa could you be more specific next time 🙏🏾 just cuz there are many different countries
Miss Kenya, yes!
