The Africa Cup of Nations is a football competition that brings together the best national men's teams in Africa, organized by the Confederation of African Football since 1957.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which kicked off in Côte d'Ivoire on January 13, 2024, and culminated in the final on February 11, 2024, saw Côte d'Ivoire facing Nigeria. Senegal, aiming to retain its title from 2021, was eliminated by the Ivory Coast's Elephants in a fiercely contested tournament. Egypt, with a record seven titles, was also ousted by the Democratic Republic of Congo's Leopards, thanks to Marius Muland's last-minute goal.
As the competition comes to an end, attention turns to the financial rewards for the participating teams. The Confederation of African Football announced its intention to significantly increase the tournament's prize money before the competition, with a 40 percent increase from the previous final.
This means that the future champions of AFCON 2023 will now receive $7 million. Lower amounts will be awarded to the losing finalists, as well as each team qualified for the semi-finals and quarterfinals, namely $4 million for the runners-up, $2.5 million for the semi-finalists, and $1.3 million for the quarter-finalists.
