The term "New Criticism" was first used by Joel Spingarn in a lecture delivered at Columbia University in 1910, he also published a booklet based on this lecture titled "The New Criticism" in 1911. But, this name was popularized by John Crowe Ransom's book The New Criticism published in 1941.
