It is a beautiful and terrifying story at the same time, the meaning of the book and the movie is about abuse, physical, sexual and psychological
psychological: Bill that his parents didn't pay attention to him and blamed him for Georgie, Eddie that his mother was very overprotective and forced him to live with drugs and fear of the whole world, Mike that he was mistreated and treated as "Black" by Henry Bowers and his goons.
Sexual: Beverly that her father was always watching her with threats not to go out with boys despite only being 11 years old.
They all suffered and the clown took advantage of that, but they were united and managed to overcome their fears and their evils in life.
'It' is based on Pogo, the clown, real name John Gacy, a sexual predator and serial killer, so yeah.

Interesting fact is that reason for Bill Skarsgard aka Pennywise the Evil Clown gotten the role is he does the creepy smile on command since he was a kid scaring his siblings and friends. When Bill was on late show, Conan promoting IT, he demonstrated the evil smile. Conan O'Brien, host of the show has his TH-cam channel called Team Coco. One of those videos has Bill doing the smile on the show.

I used to be scared of the dark when I was young. My dad said "remember, there's nothing there in the dark that isn't there in the daylight ". I thought about it and he was right.

One thing I've always liked about Stephen King's books is that, if you remove the horror elements, you still have wonderful stories about the Human Experience. His characters are three dimensional with good and bad, strong and weak elements to their characters.
For non-horror Stephen King story adaptations there are: The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Stand By Me, The Stand, The Dark Tower, Doloris Clayborn(sad, hard to watch) and Hearts of Atlantis

@@aut0maniak The book was way too long but it was very interesting so I just listened to the audio book. That book was too graphic and crazy for a movie so of course they had to leave a lot of stuff out. (i.e. kid gangbang scene at the end 🤮🤢☹)

I'm old enough to remember the original 90s version of IT starring Tim Curry as Pennywise
That version of Pennywise scared me, but it was worse for my 5 year old nephew at the time. Mainly, because he watched it without me knowing about it. He didn't sleep for a week.

'It' was made into a movie in 1990, made for TV in 2 parts... it was not quite as gory, but still a great movie - different format, different storyline... I recommend u check it out.
The TV movie starts in the present (in 1990) in the town of Derry, where another little girl is found murdered... Mike Hanlon is the town librarian, and visits the crime scene, where he finds an old photograph on the street - a picture of George Denbrough, the kid who was killed over 20 years ago... Mike starts making phone calls and starts w/ Bill Denbrough and gives him the warning - "It's back."
One by one, each adult gets a call from Mike - Bill, Ben, Beverly, Eddie, Richie and Stan... each recalls their first encounter w/ 'Pennywise' and what they as children did to stop 'it' ...
The 2nd part, the adults get together in Derry and each encounters Pennywise again and are face w/ the decision to end the monster's ancient life...

As a stutterer, Jaeden Martell (Bill) did a great job portraying how annoying it is to stutter, and what words it affects you getting out right!
The kids see the blood for the same reason they see the clown. Because they believe, because they have not grown up yet and closed their minds to such horrors.
I watched the original when I was a kid. It left an impression that had me fully intending to never watch this version. That being said, I'm too tempted to watch how you two react. Yep..... Time for curiosity to kill this cat.....
The original was good in its own right, for its time, and the fact it was a made-for-TV movie (so gore and violence was kept in check). And yet still gave people nightmares, lol.
These remakes are definitely "level up" on the gore and suspense. The changes between the original and the new ones are interesting.
I read the book when I was about 14/15, I would only read it in the morning before school. So by the time I got home and went to bed, I'd forgotten about it and wouldn't have nightmares.
Saw the first movie not long after, that certainly made an impression.

Love your reactions. When this came out guys would dress up as Pennywise complete with red balloons and stand in the shadows near a street corner. People would really get creeped out and sometimes even called the police. For another creepy horror, try The Grudge. For something more fun, try The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a comedy/musical. For a series you should check out Lucifer..."The angel Lucifer was cast out of Heaven and condemned to rule Hell for all eternity. Until he decided to take a vacation...Los Angeles 2016."

edit: Derry is the town (and outskirts) in the state of Maine where a great many of Stephen King's stories take place. Pet Sematary, Cujo, Needful Things, Christine (if I remember right), etc.

I watched this movie for the first time this past weekend. I loved it. Great movie. One of my favourite horror movies now.

It reminds me of my own experience with a serial killer in my own small town. Our serial killer never killed anyone in the same way, which made him far harder to detect.
As much as I love Tim Curry in a clown outfit, there's no doubt this version of IT is much better.

The scene in the garage with the projector was the first scene they filmed and it was the first time any of the child actors saw what Pennywise looked like so their reactions in that scene was 100% real
Interesting fact, the look of the clown with averted eyes is a trait of the actor who plays him, it's not CGI or anything like that and besides the director is from my country, Argentine pride that triumphs in Hollywood... Another good reaction like this movie It would be Jeepers Creepers.

The remake was actually planned to be and was made 27 years after the original TV mini series

Generally speaking remakes or covers of great movies don't turn out to well. But this one from 2017 was outstanding! The original "IT" from 1990 scared the hell out of me and that's when I was a kid. This version (which now is 6 yrs ago) scared me too. In the original, I liked Tim Curry as Pennywise. You can see at the beginning of the movie that he looks like the registration clerk at the hotel in Home Alone II Lost in New York. Both movies I own on Bluray & DVD along with Chapter 2, with the adults starring in it.

Also, some of the scenes of kids hanging out with each other, including swimming, made me miss dearly of one of my remarkable outdoor adventures from the college a few years ago. The book says that adults could not and did not see what children saw. That's why father didn't see the blood. And the adults didn't see the clown.
I highly recommend Stephen King's It 1990,, but for a good very scary movie I recommend Jeepers Creepers 2001
