The Disused Railway Tunnel you can stay overnight in - Butternab Tunnel full explore
Situated on the 3.5 mile Meltham Branch near Huddersfield, the long abandoned 256 yard long Butternab Tunnel nestles within some gorgeous surroundings and is also the home to something very unique.....
Join me as we take a special trip to this amazing location, disused for 6 decades by the railway, we stay overnight in the Tunnel itself as well as take a rare walk through the hidden & abandoned section of this tunnel. Late on I go in search of the Eastern closed off portal.
The disused Butternab Tunnel is not quite as abandoned as you would think....

Nice. About 10 years ago the Lady owner of the house very kindly gave us complete access , inc to the Tunnel, itself. It looks like it has changed since the new owner has taken over and a great job has been made of it.

very well done, terrific work by everyone. Modern instantly forgettable sterile architecture needs to stop, we've had 60 years of it. The conversion into accomodation is so so so tasteful and lovingly done. If the plants take to it and thrive, and the old stone and the plants and water all compliment each other, that is the definition of natural, a complete perfect piece of work.

Always a pleasure to view your work. Had a lame day at work and coming home to one of your videos make for a better day, REALLY.... If the people that dug and bricked the tunnel could only see it today..... From the intro to the end it was nothing but a great watch.

I often think of the guys that built these old tunnels, what they would think of the way so many have been discarded and left to crumble. What a waste of all their hard work. Something like this though: imagine the look on a Victorian navvy's face if he saw this.😁 Once he sussed out what all the 21st century gadgetry was, I bet he'd love it. The apartment is superb and that water feature is genius.👌

    Hi again Ant.
Well what can I say about this video?
    Excellent and Brilliant!!!!!!
What a lovely place to have a b&b, different but nice at the same time.
I wouldn't mind staying there myself.
It's a bit different from staying in old railway carriages like you can down in Devon.
What a wonderful idea of the land owner to turn a disused tunnel into a b&b, I really take my hat off to this guy for having a brilliant idea.
Love the night light's at the end of the tunnel too, a really good effect I must say.
Once again well done for doing another brilliant video Ant, look forward to seeing your next uploaded video soon.

Absolutely brilliant what they have done with part of the old tunnel, looks pretty cool, I've walked part of the old Meltham branch line, have also walked parts of old Holmfirth branch line and the old Kirkburton branch line, did same with the old Clayton West branch, you could walk the biggest part of the old Clayton West branch, however the old Clayton West branch is now the home of the kirklees light railway, a 15" guage line that runs from Clayton West to just short of the old Clayton West Junction

    Hi again Anthony,
Sorry for bothering you, as your probably busy, and can't always answer people's messages on here, but I just thought I'd let you know that on Monday 30th August, myself and a mate of mine, did a walk on the former Creswell to Staveley mineral Railway line, which is now a footpath and cycle track.
You can even join onto the Oxcroft branch, but sadly that's not a footpath yet, so your walking on balast all the way there and back.
Have you by any chance done the Creswell to Staveley walk yet?
When you arrive in Clowne, the old railway station is still there, and there's a tunnel, but sadly it's locked up but you can walk up to the tunnel and have a look through the metal fence.
Then also when you arrive in Clowne, there's the remains of the old station platform and a notice board with photos and information about the line, which is a very interesting read.
Lookout for the two ways of spelling the station name on the platform.
One is called CLOWN then the other station sign reads CLOWNE and BALBROUGH.
It's a lovely walk for the rest of the way into Staveley, you go under a bridge which carries the M1 Motorway, then as you come out, on your left hand side there's an old plate layers hut still in tacked but without any windows, then when you arrive at a place called Duckmanton, you arrive at Seymour Junction near to where the signal box used to be, and the old foot crossing which went over the line, is still there today. 😃
The walk took myself and my mate about 3 and a half miles in total.
The weather was perfect and we really enjoyed ourselves.
Maybe unless you've already done it yourself, this might be another idea for a future video.
Anyway all the best mate, keep doing your fantastic videos and hope to see a new one uploaded on TH-cam soon.
    From. Devon Boy Mike.

Hi Mike, I'm still here 🙂 it's been a super busy period with a house move recently. I do need to do this line. I've tried twice last year but it's always so busy. I've done the oxcroft line early last year there are a couple of lovely bridges down there

Hiya again mate just wanted to say thanks for the reply back, yes I remember seeing you do the Oxcroft branch on one of your videos, I need to do that one myself too sometime now I know how to get onto it.
You'll probably enjoy the Creswell to Staveley walk as myself and my mate did.
If you look at a channel on TH-cam called, the wobbly runner, he's made a video of it too as I'm subscribed to him and he's done a few good videos too.
And good luck with your house move, is it a disused railway station or tunnel your new place?? Lol 🤣😂 only kidding, anyway that's all I can think of for now, I'm at Belper railway station at the moment doing some train spotting for the day. 😀 Hope to see your videos soon.
