Shut Down was meant for the haters saying that Blackpink’s popularity is gone because of their 2 year hiatus. So this song was to let them know they’re still relevant and still going up. Also this song - visually - are references to their past songs. Like the beginning ramp that Lisa was on was referencing Playing With Fire. The crystal tank Jennie was on was Dududdudu. The globe Rosé was on was Whistle. The umbrella that Jisoo had I believe was Dududdudu. There were a lot of other scenes if you catch them all haha Also in the last few scenes you can see all the posters with all the old song titles on the walls.
Overall, glad you like their music and appreciate the girls’ hardwork. Their other songs on their albums that don’t have music videos are so good as well! Hope to see you do a video on those as well :)
The pink venom beat drop is known as an “anti drop” it builds and builds so you think it’s gonna be hard hitting, and then it isn’t but in the best way possible. It’s like ear candy because you’re like “omg what did I just hear” and then it really gets you the second time around.
In stay the guys are supposed to be like angels, there are plenty of theories about stay but essentially the girls are depicted in a post apocalyptic world and they seem to be the only ones left, the song itself is about friendship and not wanting to lose those close to you rather it be a normal growing apart, or a tragic accident.
In the shut down video, all sets are reminiscent of their previous work (they debuted in 2016) the Ferrari part with the two walls is to show their first ever music video “boombayah” where they were on moped scooters in front of these same two screens. Like you said it is not to say they don’t have budget, but it’s to pay homage to we’re they started, showing that they went from scooters as young women, to Ferrari’s as grown women. And yes it was a comeback song, it was actually a diss track to the haters. So many people talk about how they rarely had comebacks but they clapped back with this song. Because although they weren’t active as a group they still made noise, gaining fans, making solo debuts, and modeling gig after gig.
Blackpink are definitely hiphop heads and they sampled the biggie line replacing 4 4 with coco referencing Chanel since jennie who sings it is a global ambassador of the brand
The lyric in Shut Down , “It’s not a comeback since we never left” . BLACKPINK hasn’t had a comeback in almost 2 years. They made their comeback with PINK VENOM & SHUTDOWN in 2022 , that lyric is out for many kpop fans who thought BLACKPINK wouldn’t return/renew their contract with their company as they have been focusing more on solos & attending fashion shows as they’re global ambassadors in brands. I really recommend listening to their SOLOS!!!

Just a little info for you mate. Blackpinks main producer Teddy grew up in LA in the 90's (NWA era). West Coast hip hop and rap was his main influence becoming an artist. Blackpink all grew up listening to music from that era. So over the years Teddy has put homages to a lot of American hip hop into Blackpinks music. The most overt example was Pink Venom but the influence is found in pretty much all their music. Teddy is dope as hell and his beats are sick. He used to release the occasional beat out in the wild but he hasn't done that for awhile now. At least not that I've noticed.
Blackpinks' cadence goes super well with each of their songs because the instrumentals always finds a way to define (idk if thats the right word) their voices. Most of their songs will either be about love or empowerment, hence why their name is Blackpink. Black = Savage, Tough. Pink = Pretty, Cute. Something like that. Any song that is savage is Black and any song about love would be Pink. You also got Lisa right in Ice Cream!! Looking forward to more reactions! "Playing With Fire" Is a good song of theirs too, as well as "Typa Girl".
I know what you mean and I will add that they do know how to approach each instrumental they have recorded over. They aren't too aggressive and they aren't too laid back, they always find a balance.

yeah those are references and they have one for rihanna too and it's the "one by one and two by two" part in pink venom and you wouldn't probably notice it cause you're just starting to react to them but shut down is actually full of references from their past music videos, the first one with the 2 walls that you noticed was just like from one of their debut music videos "boombayah"
The Blackpink members and Selena were never actually in a scene together- because of Covid, they had to shoot the M/V in different places. Selpink still looks seamless!

As you know the last and the second songs wore comebacks from 2022 and i dont know if you remeber but they say shut down, bc every part of the song have already been in other MV from start to end. so if you look at all MV you will see its similer to shut down, they kinda leave it in the past and now its a new begining, also to say bye to haters, " keep talking we shut you down"
So Shut Down is a comeback song, and it's actually full of references to their other songs (the tank, Lisa's sword, etc). It represents the end of a phase.
'The cadence is detrimental'....you right...shut Down was a 6/8 beat which I know you felt. Very brave to rap to that shit..but it worked. First ever big rap hit to a waltze.
