The reason why this song has magic is because even though it is a modern song, it has a KUNDIMAN theme, an original filipino music genre (during war-time era) that revolves around love and despair or rather despair because of love. This song is a fitting song to describe a loco de amor, something a person suffers from. Spiraling hopelessness and most often a life-long heartbreak. It is beautiful but deeply sad and this is why this song tugs at our hearts, even if it is in a different language. The execution is sincere and it created magic.
In today's life, it is so easy for people to find romance, we all have that false idea that we can find love easily, or replace someone instantly. But in older days, love is once in a lifetime... that's why this song hurts so beautifully.
The original line up of Rivermaya had a forte for the Kundiman theme, Bamboo mentored Juan very well.

It's been five years. College days and this made a huge impact in my college life. So happy that I get to listen to this masterpiece again
Because "luna" means "moon" and the word itself indicates insane, as Juan Karlos portrays in the music video, the song is titled "Buwan." Juan Karlos intended to "write a song that expresses another kind of love." Buwan is a Kundiman blues-inspired song. Juan Karlos stated that this song was inspired by someone and composed somewhere, and that he wrote it out of a certain feeling. Under the moon, he had a strange sensation (buwan).The song just pops into his head every time he sits down to write.
In the first scene of the music video, Maureen is nearly hit by a car, prompting Juan Karlos to scold her for not being cautious. She was chained in a room as a show of his love and protection for her, so she wouldn't get into any more problems. Maureen, on the other hand, has already died as a result of the vehicle accident. Juan Karlos was hallucinating at the last scene, believing Maureen was still alive, and they brought themselves to that empty chamber. Maureen hugs Juan Karlos with a pale face, Maureen having turned into a ghost at this point, and Juan Karlos sitting alone and distressed.

it was called as "buwan" daw bcoz luna means moon and the word luna itself means lunatic, which jk is portraying in the music video. maureen on the first scene was "almost" hit by a car, so jk was mad at her for not being careful enough at that moment, she was tied in a room to symbolize his "love and protection" of her so that she won't be in trouble again.. but the plot twist is, maureen is already dead due to that car accident, that's why in the last scene jk was hallucinating that maureen was still alive and brought "themselves" to that empty room, she hugged him with a pale face (ur right, she's a ghost on that scene) , while jk is sitting there lonely and distressed.

I knew this song for a long time but this is the first time that I watch the music video. Ramdam ko yung lungkot at sakit pinapakita ni Juan Karlos sa video na ito. My wife passed away last year. Araw araw ganito ang situation ko even until now. Mas masakit pa sa lahat ng klaseng break ups or heart breaks. Ang hirap. Araw araw ka bumabangon at gumigising pero pakiramdam mo hindi ka na buo. Palaging may kulang.

Alam ko nanaginip lang ako at wala na siya, pero mas pinili kong pumikit, tiisin ang sakit, makita ko lang siya. Maraming beses ito nangyari. Hindi isang beses lang.

I am impressed with his vocals, I can really say that JK got his real genre and image as an artist. This kind of music that I like to sing wherever I am kahit sa jeep.
I interpreted the music video as what love can turn you into. In this case, he turned into a lunatic. The part about obsessing over her by tying her up on a chair, giving him a sense of control and bliss that she won't go anywhere gave that away. But in the end, it was just all him. His obsession has made him lose control and let love(the girl) take over him.
But obsession is not love, so you see him doing all those things by himself.
