    As much as I hated O’Brien in the first season. This moment was a turning point for her. She became less manipulative but just stayed blunt, always giving her opinion as it is. She even stayed clear of Thomas’ schemes from that point. Good character development

    • @Xerxes2005
      @Xerxes2005 4 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      It's the society of the time that was sickening. I'll give you one other sickening reality. A Lord becomes attracted to one of his maids. He tries to seduce her. The domestic has two choices: she accepts, or she's fired. Let's say she accepts. She gets pregnant. She gets thrown out of the house like the last of the harlots. So, yeah it is sad that some servants tried to exact some revenge on their masters, but don't blame me if I don't cry too much.

      Why is it on these videos it’s always one of two things.
      People calling all nobles evil or saying all nobles were good.
      There is good and bad everywhere in anyone, high or low.

    • @Xerxes2005
      @Xerxes2005 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@sebastianlodge7549 Well, the show does paint nobility in a favorable way. Then, people seem to believe that one always gets what he diserves. A poor man is poor because he's lazy. A rich man is rich because he "worked hard" for it. Therefore, a system they approve must be lead by good people. And a system they don't approve must be lead by evil people. People like simple explanations. Things are more complex, of course. People are formed by their upbringing. A noble can be a good man, but he will be moulded by his upbringing as a nobleman. He won't tyranize his subjects, but he will patronize them (look at Lord Grantham's reaction towards Daisy getting an education). He will be a good man, but even with his good intentions he will still perpetuate a bad system. He will defend that system that made him a privileged man honestly thinking it's for the people's better interest. Louis XVI was not an evil man, but the system he was upholding needed to be either reformed or toppled down. Since he could not reform it, the system was destroyed.

      But the real problem that caused the revolution was when Louis XIV (Le roi soleil) asked for most noble to be at court. It was actually proven that the lands where the nobles stayed in their land. They didn't want to fight for the revolution and were happy both how things were going.

      @@andresuston7692 Miscarriages just don't happen like that - ask any qualified midwife. Baby is well cushioned with amniotic fluid inside the womb, and the womb is a strongly constructed, muscular structure. Pregnant ladies trip, slip, and fall all the time without inducing a miscarriage.
      In the early 20th Century when this drama was set, any accidental injury to a pregnant woman carried serious risk of harm, because medicine was in more primitive stages. So O'Brien's crime in trying to engineer a miscarriage in her employer was serious and carried real malice.
      I still say kicking a bar of soap and expecting it to a/ be slipped upon and b/ to specifically induce an abortion was far fetched plotting by Julian Fellowes! But we are of course talking about fiction here, and I accept there must be some poetic licence on the part of the writer, and some suspension of disbelief by we, the viewers!
