To answer your question, I live in USA and I think we are famous for assassinations of Presidents in our relatively short history. It started in 1835 when a gunman fired at President Andrew Jackson but both of his guns misfired. There have been four successful assassinations starting with Abraham Lincoln in 1865, then James Garfield in 1881, William McKinley in 1891 and John F. Kennedy in 1963. There have also been several unsuccessful attempts including two on Abraham Lincoln, William Howard Taft in 1909, Franklin Roosevelt in 1933, Harry Truman in 1950, Richard Nixon in 1972 and 1974, Gerald Ford in 1975 and on Ronald Reagan in 1981. Every president since that time has had assassination plots that were stopped before they got near the president. In addition there have been attempted assassinations on former presidents Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 and Donald Trump in 2024. We have also had assassinations of presidential candidates like Robert F. Kennedy (JFKs brother) and civil rights leaders Martin Luther King for example. Each assassination changed history, particularly Lincoln and Kennedy. The attempt on Theodore Roosevelt's life is interesting. He was shot while speaking to a crowd while running for another term as president. He was shot in the chest and after a brief pause continued speaking for another 84 minutes. Doctors found that the bullet went as far as his chest muscle but did not pierce his lung. Doctors thought it would be more dangerous to remove the bullet, so Roosevelt lived with the bullet in his chest for the rest of his life.
I was quite ignorant of the so many assassination attempts on US presidents. This seems unfathomable in today's China, where a major political leader is hurt physically in the slightest way by ordinary citizens. Thank you very much for your elaboration on this subject.
