Toy companies are killing the industry by out pricing toys for kids. When they grow up, they won't be buying the toys of their childhood like us because they won't have them growing up and the toy companies will shut down eventually. When the older generation dies, so does the toy market. Unless they find a way to make a change. Kids are going to want the toys their parents buy for themselves. They need to make them more available and affordable.
I got into toy collecting with the neca TMNT toon line so I was used to a bit of struggle finding stuff but when I started branching out to other things, I was honestly surprised to see how hard it was to get some super popular characters from marvel legends like Spider-Man or the X-men. You can find odd, one off variants or repaints more often than the version you want. In the entire time I’ve been paying attention I’ve seen one red/blue Spider-Man and one tiger stripe Wolverine total. One Thor variant. No Green hulks. Saw most of the X-men 97 figs once. Entire waves pass by without ever showing up on any retail shelf near me. It’s WILD to me that there’s no consistent way to acquire these characters without resorting to the aftermarket.
As much as I love toys, I find myself buying mostly second-hand these days. The prices are too damn high and I don't want to have to search for the specific things I want. I've found joy in the random nature of searching thrift shops for cool stuff. If I had more money or they were cheaper I would totally be buying more new. Great video guys. Station.
Someday, far in the future Jelani and Brooks will save the toy industry by opening Jelook Toys..then and only then can I make the horrible joke of May Jelook.
I’m definitely more particular with what I buy now and skip some. There’s some figures I have I want to return or sell to get what I’m more interested in. I actually am getting into world building of making and putting figures in dioramas.
