So what happened was that an automatic claim is made when you place a chest down, to protect your things.
You can see it when holding the shovel, those nether and redstone blocks appeared.
You can resize your claim by clicking a corner of that claim and moving further away

additionally your claim counts from level 0 to build limit, so no need to claim it in 3D if that makes sense
