New UVA radio guy, Bennett, Super Regional

AFP editor Chris Graham previews the UVA-Kansas State Super Regional, which begins Friday night at The Dish.
But before we can get to the happy place, there’s the news about the new UVA Football radio color analyst, the guy who made up a story to whip up his online mob to go after Chris last fall.
People can fail up in this world, which is nice to know.
Chris also updates folks on the latest on Tony Bennett’s contract status.

I am a college football fan who lives near UVA and I hold season tickets. I was not aware of your experience with the “ballhawk”. I hope he does a better job in the booth than he does with his pregame and halftime “ballhawk” spots. I have a lot of trouble hearing what he says. It surprised me a great deal that they would put him on the radio. I always enjoy your UVA sports podcasts.

The stadium sound system was a big issue for those spots for him. The new scoreboard project is supposed to also address the sound issue, though now that Hawkins got kicked upstairs into the booth, I'm not sure they'll try to continue those spots.
Outside of that: it's not a good look on UVA Athletics to have a guy who takes shots at media members and football alums (he had a Twitter spat with Kurt Benkert last fall) in a prominent role like that.

Unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me that UVA is slotting in yes men. It is a sad fact that the university, like oh so many universities and other public institutions these days (understand I am speaking of the Administration, not faculty and students) is restricting our free speech and attacking those who exercise their constitutional rights when it doesn't suit them. And now it trickles down into the broadcast booth.
There aren't that many things I love more than UVA, especially UVA basketball, as you know. And I am so glad that you are doing an amazing job, reporting the facts as they are, always honest., good and bad. None of us need cheerleaders in the press or in broadcasting. Silencing dissent will quickly silence everyone. Keep up the good fight. There are many that support you and your work.
