Situational awareness via sensors is probably the hardest skill for me to learn. I've started combat flight sims on WW2 war birds and now early cold war stuff, so I can't help wanting to look out the cockpit. I need to get better using my radar to its full effect in BVR capable planes like the F-14, F-18, and Mig-29.
I think that’s the right problem to have, because interfacing with sensors will always be weird, but not looking out of the cockpit purely relies on skill. That’s what I think anyways
I agree, looking outside is what most people find difficult after they get too used to relying on sensors, reviewing my footage back I’ll often notice the bandit flew right past me but I was looking at a display and totally missed it
If you look at the design history dogfight capability was actually a pretty primary requirement for R-27, it’s only really worse than an R-60 at ultra short ranges
I fly the 29 on ECW all the time (feel free to check out my video that I uploaded recently). Pro tip - ALWAYS remember to ditch your centerline tank before any engagement. The aerodynamic increase is enormous and your performance in a turn is drastically increased. Also, I typically keep the throttle at around 35% when cruising around, the 29 has so much power at its disposal and I know its weird to keep the throttle that low but you can easily outrun anything at that power setting. I only use afterburner in a turn fight, and even then very sparingly. Great video as always
TH-cam hid your comment for some insane reason, trying to make it show publicly but I’m not sure it’s working… I only even saw it because they didn’t block your reply to yourself so I actually got the notification, no idea what’s going on… Anyway though, I usually pride myself with getting a lot of mileage out of the Fulcrum, I’ve said myself in basically all prior videos on it that it’s not worth using more than 40% throttle for cruising. I was just a moron in this case 😅 As for using the flaps, will definitely give this a go next time 👌🏼
@@Bullet4MyEnemy It is visible. Not sure it's viable, though :) Low speed is dangerous place. Be high, full of fuel, TWS until LA zone, use optics and hemet (instead of radar) when SA is good, don't waste missile on bad angles / close distances and against sun... sometimes gun is more secure.
@@Bullet4MyEnemy it does mark it, with frame over target1 and cross overs target2 (tws2 mode for two targets). There are plenty of videos, but have not seen PvP explanations (RWR effect). Hud frame + circle or cockpit frame (visual) is a rough radar gimbal limits.
Won't lie, it's always a joy watching you fly. Went onto Engimas for my first time the other day, had no clue what I was doing, had a fun time but got obliterated, I need to practice dog fighting much more :D Got any tips?

EO can actually see through certain type clouds, mostly at high altitude so it should be possible to fire through clouds at high altitude, just not lower altitude clouds.
I have the Hind but the gameplay loop doesn’t do much for me… I enjoy actually flying it around, but the combination of Petrovich and enemy jets make flying it anywhere other than into the ground feel like a waste of time lol
Love the video! Always nice to see the Mig29, definably not something I give much love despite how pretty she is, would love to see some Mud Moving when your in the mood for it ;) have a great day and keep up the great work!
For now there’s only an FC3 MiG-29; 3 of them actually - the A (this is the one I’m flying), the S, which is a little more modernised and the G, which is the S but German and (I think) uses NATO standard units (knots and feet) rather than metric like the Russian variants.
@@Murrence90 I thought it was an R60 too! I thought he said at the start that he was wanting to play with the R-27s but they were removed before he flew it out.
That’s R-73s lol, would’ve ended all the fights effortlessly with those - R-27s are what makes it point restricted, only credit spawns get Fox-1s/Head on BVR capabilities
You gotta tell me how you can even operate the radar. I bought the MIG-29 Fulcrum TWICE in DCS and refunded it due to the radar being absolute shit, wouldn't HMD boresight lock a SU-33 RIGHT infront of me when I was on their six, nor will it ever work for BVR. I love the plane but I want to know how the bloody hell to work the radar. Please help me dawg.
@@Access_denied153 With the HMD were you actually hitting the lock key? It doesn’t catch them automatically like the US stuff. As for BVR, you might not have been pointing it the right way; do you know about cycling the range and setting the angle to be looking in the right spot? You have to know where to look, but say you’re at 10km altitude and there’s a contact at 40km range, 5km altitude - you’d set the radar to look -5 on the elevation (alt difference) at 40km range. If you don’t adjust the range bit then the default is 10km and your elevation settings will be off, unlikely to find much by chance unless it’s a very busy area. I massively prefer the NATO method of displaying the min and max altitudes the radar can see for the range you have the target designator set at, as well as it auto locking things in the ACM modes, but once you understand the differences they’re easy enough to work around. It’s worth adjusting the pulse repetition frequency on the Fulcrum’s radar as well, set it to Hi for hot targets and Med/Interleave for flanking or cold targets, makes a big difference to detection range.
@@Bullet4MyEnemy yes, but don’t worry about it rn, I refunded it because for some reason when I download a dlc it says a jet I bought is unauthorized, but thanks for answering

that no fuel r27 shot was fucking gross dude
I didn't actually expect it to connect, but apparently they're dogfight missiles? Who knew?

One more note, flaps down in a lowspeed dogfight. Drop tank -> profit

I’ve never been able to wrap my head around the TWS mode because as far as I can tell it doesn’t mark the target in the hud?

Always tough not to overthink things when you've a limited spawn, that was a decent run but those viggens played pretty well at the end

The one time an R60 actually decides to hit something, and it's when you're out of fuel, free falling, wondering where it all went wrong
That was an R-27 lol, R-60 would've definitely fucked me in that situation - not that it mattered much one way or the other
How did I get that so wrong, I'd literally just watched it XD
