How nice to see an owner care about their customers. The ones we are left with in my area are only about volume. None of them have the personal touch that the generation before them had.
Don't go crazy on equipment until you're sure that bowling is something you really want to do? Bowling once or twice a year then it's best to save your money and use house equipment. But if you're bowling 3 or 4 times a week then it's best to buy high quality shoes and equipment that way the stuff will last longer. I've worn out a pair of $180.00 shoes in 2 years. Can you imagine how many pairs of cheap shoes you'll wear out in that amount of time? The main thing when deciding is how often will I be bowling and go from there. All bowling equipment companies have cheap and expensive equipment. No brand is better than the others. But nothing hits like a Hammer:-)
You have to figure out first how you throw the ball to figure out what ball you need . You don't want to get a ball that has a ton of hook if you throw ball down 10 board . So talk to someone first .
That will depend on several factors. What particular ball you buy is the biggest one as that sets the base price you'll pay. Whether you're local to him or not is another factor. If you can't actually go to his shop in person you may have to pay for shipping. Fitting and drilling also need to be taken into account. He may or may not have drilling figured into his prices. If he doesn't, you should be prepared to be charged $50 or more for drilling. If you want grip inserts, thumb slugs, or an interchangeable thumb system you will be charged extra for those. If you can't go in for him to fit you for the ball, you'll have to supply him with a spec sheet. If you don't have one, you'll have to go to your local pro shop and have them put one together for you. They might do it for free, but they'll most likely charge you since you're not getting a ball drilled there. You could potentially avoid that by ordering the ball undrilled and having your local shop drill it for you, but that would likely defeat the purpose of you ordering it from Kurt. I'd say the best bet if you're in his area is to just go by and discuss your options with him directly.
Nice video. I bowl best with more aggressive bowling balls myself. I used a urethane with a light hook for a long time. Now I have to line up on the left and throw my kingpins towards right gutter. It's different but my scores increased from barely breaking 100 to 170-185 games. The lows now are 150.
bowling balls are pretty much the same, think of the ball like a suit, most suits are created the same but other suits can be made and tailored to the buyer, thats what he does, the holes are always gonna be in the same general areas on the ball, he just adjusts it so that its as comfortable as possible to the buyer
Depends on the person and the ball and type of ball. Depends on what you want the ball to do and when you want it to do it the minute you send it down lane. I'm a two handed bowler and I don't even use a thumb hole so
He’s measuring their hands and using angles to put the weight block of the ball in the best spot to get the ball to do what the bowler wants it. It’s going to be different for every ball and bowler. Haven’t met him but he looks like one of the good ones for sure.
Wow those old televisions look so cool! The setup.
I so admire people like Kurt. He doesn't work a single day in his life because he absolutely does what he loves most. Thank you, Kurt!
Great video and great story!

The part about kids.....fun and non-contact sport is what I always hear true bowler employees stress most when talking about the future of bowling.
Inspiring guy.
