5:09 Wow. This 'quick/back/middle-set' by Cullen was INCREDIBLE. Talk about 'pushing/forcing the middle', lol. I was a setter/hitter too, and this move is just poetry in motion. SMU also runs lots of 'shoot-sets' or 2-sets to the outside which very few teams do (I don't know why). Those shoot-sets are so quick, it splits the block and often the blockers are late getting up. I believe this fast-tempo offense is what 'got' Nebraska -- they just haven't played against such fast tempo. But Pitt really made a statement by sweeping SMU so handily, suggesting Pitt SHOULD have the edge over Nebraska.
I completely agree-the quick sets really are a work of art, and it’s impressive how well Cullen executes them. The speed of those shoot sets definitely creates a lot of opportunities, and it's surprising more teams don't utilize them. I think you’re right about the fast tempo; it can catch even the best teams off guard. Pitt’s performance against SMU was definitely eye-opening! It’ll be interesting to see how they match up against Nebraska next. As of now they currently look like the better team.
