High Social media consumption and high housing cost is to be blamed for this. Also ageing parents back home

Most of what makes Canada enjoyable for my wife and me are the free things: National/provincial parks, clean air, libraries, beaches. Of course, a car is needed to access most of the parks so it comes down to being self sufficient enough to enjoy Canada.

Totally agree about the parks and green spaces! Some people take it for granted. And while you get a lot of green spaces and nice pedestrian areas in Europe as well, that's not the case everywhere!

Happiness is declining. People who have family and finances to cover the basics are okay. They people who are working 2 3 jobs are trying to make.ends meet. Who is saving in this economy? The average person is prob barely covering their bills. The quality of life is declining greatly. The government has the power but they won't. They need to keep the wealthy people comfortable.

Ps I have been in Canada for about 14 years, I feel bad for young immigrants. But in my opinion financial problems are self created. When Bowring was cheap people borrowed like no tomorrow, and now borrowing is hard and they complain about cost of living. Furthermore, I find it crazy how even grown-ups lack financial literacy. And that is the biggest problem in this country.
On a personal experience, I am really happy and grateful in and to Canada. Happy times will come again. After long winters we will get good summer!

High gas prices are making us miserable. Also high internet service, high cost of food, high rent, impossibly expensive housing, the high cost of buying a car, poor public transit, existential worry about climate, constant disinformation on social media (it's hard to believe anything anymore). The constant worry about violence, hostile intolerance, full landfill sites due to online shopping returns (Amazon), violence in schools, lack of manners in general (yep I'm a senior from a time where manners were important). The government is not to blame for all of it. Maybe it's to blame for some of it but companies who have a monopoly on prices are also responsible and even we share a responsibility with our spending habits (and I include myself in this with my money going to Netflix, buying more clothes than I need, upgrading my phone.) My biggest worry, though, is our changing climate. When there is so much drought that there is a shortage of food, today's worries will be small in comparisson. Fortunately, Canada might be one of the countries where survival will be possible. Happy Sunday everyone!

Today June 30 there were hardly any flags on houses. I am talking about an affluent area in Waterloo Ontario. I am somewhat puzzled.

100% this. This is the type of content that resonates with me and would like to see more of. You've covered most bases when it comes to Canada's happiness index. I would add that the generational differences in reported levels of happiness and overall quality of life have much to do with that every subsequent generation after the Boomers were sold a bill of goods that propped up the belief that if you did all the right things (ticking all the boxes in regards to societal expectations) you'd end up in the black financially (or at least not destitute) and that you'd eventually cement your place firmly into the middle class. What ended up happening was the upending of individual and collective security, the imposition of wholesale austerity for the majority, kleptocracy and cronyism in government, crippling rates of taxation and the corruption of our long-standing institutions. So yes, that would make most feel some kind of way about all that. Overall a very insightful and relevant video!

We are taxed and taxed. We are even taxed on tax in some cases. Some where after the Conservatives were booted out the government has taken itself on punishing personal success by changing the rules as they feel the need to keep everyone poor. They need you to depend on the government because it is Canada's largest employer and if more people became self sufficient they would be out of a job.
Two tier medical systems do work but pettiness and jealousy means we all go down the toilet, rather than letting someone who can afford it to free up a much needed bed for someone who can't, the government believes we should all stand or possibly die in line cause that's more fair.
Canadian businesses should be tax exempt or lightly taxed to help promote the Canadian economy so the biggest owners of our economy are from here.
We should have cheap gas prices that would end inflation but as long as Eastern Canada imports oil from the Saudi's rather than Alberta this will continue, not to mention the incredibly ill conceived carbon tax. We do not have a large enough population to make a difference. So basically we are paying for the rest of the world who couldn't care less about this problem.
Also in case no one's keeping up with current events there is a world war coming soon, like it or not, and we are not prepared in the least.
So in a nutshell unless you are already wealthy or a drug addict or juiced into the Liberal government you cannot succeed.

My overall happiness level from 1-10 is probably 4.5 I am fortunate but also unfortunate to live in low income housing the unfortunate part of that is 80% of the people in this complex are drunks and drug addicts the area at night is reasonably quiet at night except for the neighbour that is a meth addict and is up all night tinkering and sometimes running around outside in a paranoid delusion talking to none existent people I was just let go from the company I work for, and my income dropped to less than half which is the fortunate part of living here if I didn't live here I would be living in my car and also not afford the insurance for that car and would probably lose that, also I barely afford to pay my bills never mind eat so that part of my life right now suck, but it could be worse I could be on the street eating out of garbage cans in the back or fast food places ,when I was working I barely could afford to pay for fuel to get me to from my posting but all my bills were paid, and I was eating not properly, but I was eating mostly dollar store food back to this place it is infested with Bed bugs so feeling those little things occasionally crawling on me even after they did their thing to kills them off has giving me a form of PTSD, so I don't sleep much at night even if the person downstairs is quiet for a change, so I am pretty much screwed but like I said it could be worse.
as for immigration I agree that it has gotten out of hand I get it people want to come to our beautiful country Iwill say that at my last job posted which is bus drivers that over 90s percent that are hired are Indian and the majority of the office workers are also Indian and many of them dont speak English very well which is all ok but I am just mentioning eve non the streets at least 70 percent of the people inth the lower mainland are Indian and I work as security I have only noticed out of all the homeless people I have tried to help and that is hundreds maybe thousands I have met maybe 4 Indian that were homeless I am speaking East Indian people . when I have talked to the dispatchers at my last posting who were almost all east Indian every one of them has moved to Canada using a learning visa got into school then with in a couple of years graduated got there Canadian citizenship moved parents or husband or wife or other family member and repeated the process, and again I get it I don't blame them . Now many of those people are speaking of moving to Alberta out of BC because its much cheaper . many of the homeless people I have spoken to were actually from other provinces some of which were given a buss ticket for a free ride out of Ontario to any other province so the ones I spoke to moved to BC ,climate isn't as harsh as other parts of the country our laws are a little easy plus they get handouts, some of those people were getting more income than myself getting free cell phones but they chose to live on the street because of the freedom to do pretty much what ever they want and dont have to pay for most things.
as for the other gens they have no idea how easy it is for them, I came fro man age before the net and cel;l phone in everyone's pocket we never ran to the hospital because we got a cut of have a bad cold we worked to make money if we didn't work we would be replaced the younger people have it sooo easy compared to when I was starting out work in the 1970s most just talk rarely actually do they complain ( because they dont know better) and spend most their heads in their phones living virtually, its sad and a little scary its no Wonder some many immigrants come here they get the hand out given education and work that slowly pushes out the rest of us , and like i said before I get that , I feel like the frog in a pot of water slowly being heated but I am noticing that I am being slowly cooked to death and can't really do anything about it while most others dont seem to notice

I'm sorry to hear that. Glad to hear though that you can still see some water in the glass by saying 'it could be worse'. Things could always be worse, but things can also get better! Take care

My practical Community College Education got me started in a self-sustaining career. My later personally funded chosen University education then got my foot in the door. Employer loyalty and not thinking the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence eventually led to long term stability and life satisfaction. Something I feel very few young people in this age have the patience for. Instant gratification is the bane of society today

Ridiculous to think the living is justified here because there is clean air or running water…..as if there is no country in the world that offers that for a fraction of a cost.
