First video to tell me to turn the springs open area up! Kudos to you! I hope those 2 1/2" screws aren't too important. I couldn't get them in all the way and said chuck it.
As others have mentioned this video does not start at step one. It also does not follow the instructions regarding the screws. The only screw required is a 2.5 inch screw into each side of the jam and the instructions also state not to screw the sides through the plastic sides. Possibly these screws were necessary in 2012 or the installer feels that these screws are necessary to get a complete seal. Thanks for posting this video.
Take it from someone who's put in probably over a thousand Conversion Kits by now, and has been in Andersen service for over 14 years-please please, just follow the instructions. Those instructions were tweaked over the years by those of us who install many of these per year. Some important steps were skipped here, and some unnecessary things were done. Otherwise, you may end up calling me out to take it apart & re-install. On the other hand, that is job security... ;)
I installed a conversion kit today and the only thing I did not do was to cut out the 1/4 inch from the top jam. Am I going to have an issue later because I didn't cut this 1/4 inch?
Possibly, usually air infiltration at the top of the unit on each side. It keeps the side jamb liners from seating out fully against the sash. I would go ahead and do it now if you can still get to it.
You seem to know your stuff ! Is there any video to show how to convert fixed windows to operational casement? Anderson sold me the kit however the will not provide instructions, saying they don't recommend doing so, even though they sell the kit!! So much for Andersen customer service!! Any help??

Daveyboy you’re full of shit
Nothing screams “incompetence” quite like using shingles on a flat roof (with skylights, no less).

Thanks for the reply, I took your suggestion and went back and took off the 1/4 inch.
Good idea, you're welcome.

Did you put in 21/2 inch screw in middle of side jams/ Do you need little screws into vinyl. Good video
Too much trouble to start at the beginning?
+William Wilson What is even funnier-they did a step refering the beginning of the process at the END of the video.
