Hi Steve Awesome looking pattern never seen that tie before. Could you please tell me how you would fish this fly. Fly line and other flies to make it work best on a still water. All the best and tight lines Peter.
I remember as a kid fishing a particularly tough bite for particularly pressured steelhead. Nobody was getting anything, I lost two. But one guy down 20-30 yards down was the only dude killing them. He was using spinning gear, which is why when I finally broke down and asked wtf he was using i was surprised to hear him say a hares ear nymph. Ever since even if I'm using a spinng or centerpin ill still use flies. I only wish id gone over and seen the exact kind
Very gorgeous fly. I like how you didn’t use a big clot of tail fibers. I believe I fish this style of fly better without too much tail. I am going to try to hackle my next hares ear flies like this. Thank !!!
I always use wire as ribbing these days . Anytime I use mylar wild fish rip it to shreds , not good when its a palmer rib! . I do lose some reflection/sparkle I know .
Best hares ears ever were tied by Dave Hughes who owned Rothwell Rods, Reels and Flies. Absolutely great flies he used a rabbit mix as well. They of course only got better the more chewed they were like all great grhe‘s. I dare say these are the same improve the scruffier they get.
