I hope this helps. From the feedback I had from talking about this compass hack in the bloopers I wish I'd added it to the main content. Anything that can help you before you fall in to a 'hole' is great. Although I'm not a massive fan of mindfulness, this practice definitely works

Mr. Moorlander, I've followed you for some time now. I've always found your videos to be informative, honest, funny and unpretentious. Thanks for sharing these personal thoughts. We all struggle with life. I find your videos to be calming as well as all the things I stated above. Keep up the good work, you're doing a great job! And you're teaching us all a lot of good things.
Thank you my friend. That means a lot to me 🤙
Excellent piece of content, I've been struggling a lot recently and came close to hitting the self delete button as you so succinctly put it. I'm now on the path to recovery and this piece of content shows how important it is to talk about our challenges. Thank you so much.
Neil, I glad to hear you're still with us brother. Opening up and getting help is key. Thank you for sharing. It's not an easy road but it gets better and it's way better than the other option. Stay well my friend
Thanks randy,us men on a whole are crap at talking about our thoughts and feelings,i lost my best friend of 33 years in late 2023,he was just like a brother to me and we used to hunt, fish, hike etc but we also talked about life and we saw each other through breakups, family losses etc, saying this i am sheding a tear, but guys thats ok,if you need to cry about anything just do it.
Oh man, this comment hit me harder than I was expecting. I hope you're doing well Stewart. Over Christmas and New Year I've spoken with friends on and off social media and heard similar stories. We're told in society that we're bad and not needed. I lost my cousin before Christmas and he left behind his wife and two kids. Over the last 30 years society has turned it's backs on men/males and I think it's down to us to help rebuild
Thank you for sharing this
Now I understand why I have always liked having/making different things that hang around the neck- sharpening stones, bamboo whistles, compass, leather pouches, fire starters, etc. It gives you something to focus on, quieting the head noise. A piece of fat wood is nice because the smell will transport you to the wild places. I think my favorite is a Kala brass sundial because it requires some focus to use because it is a bit fiddly and the brass is, well, it’s not plastic. Natural materials seems to work best, wood, brass, copper, stone, leather, etc.
1000% agree. It's something that stops that itch. Even it's for a second. It's long enough to help get back on the straight and narrow. I get the smell thing too. There's been lots of studies about memory and smell. They tested children at school with different smells in different lessons and then reproduced those same smells during exams and the children that had the smells performed better than the ones that didn't. Maybe another idea for that solution for the holes
I’m not surprised by that school study. I think we (humanity) might be underestimating what our 5 senses are actually capable of, or at least were formerly capable of.
@@4StonesHandcraft we're definitely devolving
@@MoorlanderEDC Maybe this is pedantic, but devolving isn't really a thing. Evolution has no set direction, so any change in response to environmental pressures (which includes societal considering how most of humanity is part of civilisation at this point) is evolution. Also as far as we can tell, civilisation has only been around for some 8000 years, which really isn't long enough to produce enough mutation to significantly drive evolution, especially when those societies, with some exceptions (I'm looking at you Sparta), only leaned towards saving more lives overtime, limiting the role evolution can play.
It just kinda bugs me, studying history and anthropology, one of the most heartening lessons is that the people of the past really weren't all that different from us. To play them as mindless brutes, stonefaced ascetics or perfectly in tune with nature is IMO a harmful and reductive myth.
@@Colddirector Yes, I think you may have read too much into a harmless comment. I work in medical science and studies human biology (all outside of TH-cam)... There's little to no evidence that we're actually devolving. It was a harmless comment which was meant to be silly in nature 🖖
Thank you for the great review👍👍👍
Good video. You're hitting close to where I am - mentally.
For the past 11 years I have regularly been walking the spanish camino - combining my love of hiking and my "nerdish" love of new equipment with my need to turn off my ever worrying mind. Yes I know exactly what you mean with ruminate. Hiking and walking the camino have often helped to fix my position in life. Right now I'm in the planning stage of the next camino - and this time with my recent buy Kahakka 25L. Some years ago it was with the TT-mission pack purely based on your video. Still my favourite pack. So you definitely have an impact. Thanks again bro.
Hi, thanks for commenting. I hope this helps and it's also great to hear my previous content has helped in different ways. There's something about getting out in to the countryside that is good for us both physically and mentally. It's a great place to settle those thoughts in your mind
Well done mate for this takes balls
I've learned how much this affected men my age and it's the least I can do 🤙
Good effort mate, takes real guts. Also, loving the button compasses. 😁👍
Thanks buddy 🤙
EDC is not only "stuff" but ALL you carry with you every days
That's very true my friend. Some things we carry are unseen 🤙
😢
@MoorlanderEDC 😢
Thank you for sharing Brother! It all helps! 🙂👍🏆
No problem 👍
Respect for talking about this 👏
Hopefully it gets men talking 🤙
After leaving the comment on your original video regarding using a button compass as an Inception inspired totem for mental health, im glad you did this new video. It takes balls to open up about your mental health and im glad youre doing so much better now. I ended up buying a similar compass made by Marbles from Heinne Haynes. I got my brother one too. They help so well just to take a couple of minutes to clear your mind while looking at them and feeling the weight of the brass! Great for grounding yourself.
Thanks for the content and im sure itll help alot of us blokes. 🤜🤛👍
If it gets men talking it's an easy decision. Glad to hear the compass idea helped. The comments on that other content really made up my mind for this one 🤙
Thanks you!
You're more than welcome my friend 🤙
Thank you! Beautiful view. Looking forward to more videos on this and your other channel. Have a great 2025. God bless! Be safe!
🤙🪖👮🙏🇺🇸
Thank you my friend. I wish you and yours all the best as well 👍
I have had struggles in the past. I have found that with the passage of time thing get better but it can be a slow process. Take each day at a time and enjoy every small win or positive.
Thanks Andy. You're spot on. There'll be low days but when you concentrate in the highs it gets there. Glad to hear you're doing well buddy 🤙
Thanks for sharing these thoughts bro.. not easy to be authentic! Will pray for you alright? U got this! Keep on with the channel & your reviews.. solid stuff! I'm watching all the way from Singapore :)
Thank you my friend. I'm not what you'd call a Godly man, however, I'd always appreciate your prayers. Thank you for that. I hope you're well and having a great 2025 so far. All the best from the other side of the Globe 👍
So when's the launch of moorlander mindfulness?
Ha ha ha... Could you imagine the opener for it. "hi I'm the Moorlander and this is Moorlander Mindfulness. There'll be none of that airy fairy hippy dippy crap here. No sitting around circle jerking singing Kum By Yah. Get yourself a compass. All yours for three installments of £39.99"🤣
666 views as I watch this, I see myself as view 667 and breaking the devils hold on you or anyone reading.
Ive been having an incredibly difficult time lately and think I found this for a reason. I pray for you brother, I feel for men in the UK/Europe. In the States its still difficult here but current climates across the pond make me feel for my brothers there.
Thank you my friend. I'm not what you'd call a Godly person however I have the utmost respect for people with faith. I appreciate your prayers. I think men in general are having a vary hard time on both sides of the Pond and support from society isn't coming. I feel it's down to ourselves to group together for good and use that good to heal
Thank you again for the prayers, all my best
This depression thing is more widespread than it ever used to be, it’s got alot to do with how we are living these days in my opinion . Society is not well. Not good .
I tell you Randy sometimes i forget how big Shropshire is, lovely spot there mate.
I agree. I think over the last 30 to 40 years society has turned it's back on young men which has lead to the situation we're in today. I'm sure that's a whole different conversation over a pint to set the world right for another day👌Yes, you can see Shropshire and Cheshire off in the distance from the top of Hen Cloud. It's amazing place. Pretty blessed to have the Staffordshire Moorlands and Peak District right on my doorstep
All my best
I VERY much agree with that assertion of your there mate, 💯. We are of the same vintage and it was easily observable at the time when all this crap began. It has gather pace at a rapid rate too, the seeds plant of bore a very bitter fruit over the last 15 years. It may seem off at a tangent but it’s all very obviously related when i say that i do not recognise my town of birth or indeed my country, it is now a foreign land.
Keep getting outdoors friend, it keeps me sane i can tell you that much.
Yes indeed, Shropshire is very nice and so is it’s neighbour Staffordshire too. I shall have to schedule a visit to that place Hens Rock for sure in 25 👍🏻
Oh 😁and id gladly have a pint 🍻with you if your ever in my manor Worcestershire 👍🏻
It's the collapse of neoliberalism under its own internal contradictions. Turns out essentially privatising social gatherings doesn't work that great when people don't have money to spend. The churches previously picked up that slack somewhat but those institutions are also undergoing a collapse from their own internal contradictions.
I would say that young women are essentially thrown to the wolves as well, but they're socialised to at least have a stronger social network to soften that blow.
Jesus said "life is not supposed to be easy"
We are all here to learn different lessons in every lifetime until we eventually go back to the creator
Therefore those that end it early will be reborn again anyway to learn the same lesson
They are not shortening there torment they are lengthening it
So live a full life until your natural last breath
❤🤍💙
I'm not what you'd call a religious man, however I appreciate the words there. I've always been fascinated by how the mind and body works. The body itself is an amazing creation. Whether you believe it was created by God or science. It's truly an amazing machine. The body has so many ways that it helps itself so that life continues. Until, those thoughts appear. At some point the mind says "Nope, I'm done". I hope the men that are deciding to leave on record levels do find peace, however, I'd mush prefer they were here today with their friends and family
All my best buddy
