    Thanks for this video. I've been a user of a pair of IP2000's for over a year. I've used them for live band setups, school dances, and weddings meaning I've seen them in use in a lot of venues and situations (you can see examples of all on my channel if interested). I've pushed them hard at every event.
    I share pretty much all your cons. They sound great, but the lack of versatility is a big "con". What's nice about standard speakers is you can mix/match subs, mounting options (stands, poles), hang lights on them if you want, turn them, move them around, etc... there just isn't any flexibility in these columnar systems. Stick them where they go and you're pretty much locked in. That can also be a good thing for simplicity I suppose.
    Also, like you, I was shocked at how much bleed back goes out the back of the speakers. My ears were ringing at the school dances and I was a good 5 feet behind them at least. Then my wireless mic would feedback as well. I was just really surprised by that.
    Don't get me wrong, they sound amazing (IMO) and the IP2000s are quite a bang for the buck. I picked up a pair with all the bags in mint condition for $1200, so it was a steal. However, I couldn't recommend someone spending $2000-$3000 on a pair of new IP2000s. If you find a deal, go for it!

      Thanks for the kind words! Some people complain about the length of my reviews but I like to give detailed information as to my thoughts on a system. When you find a pair to listen to make sure you stand up real close to one and take steps backwards to see how the sound comes together at about 10 feet back. Also bring a buddy and have them stand in front of the speaker so you can see how people up close will block sound. If you can deal with those two things and the weight then they should work for you.

      The Angry Sound Tech 🤔 ok!.......,..I will do exactly that! Here in Paris I should be able to find a store that has them! Honestly, I don’t plan on spending more than 1300 bucks and according to your video I won’t be able to get more sound for the money! So my choices won’t be big!😂 again thanks for the advice!🙏

      How much are the iP3000's in your area? Here they are $2,000 USD each. So a pair makes a $4,000 system. You definitely can get more sound for the money in the US. I got mine cheap because I'm a dealer and I bought them before the prices went up.

      You're welcome! Thanks for taking the time to watch! I've continued to use these speakers regularly and the more I go out with them the less I like them. I recently did sound for an Elementary School choir performance and as I walked around the room during sound check I noticed inconsistencies in sound coverage as I walked the horizontal coverage pattern. It sounded like comb filtering in the higher frequencies. I'll have to test this at a few more gigs to be sure it wasn't just the venue. I'm getting very close to putting my iP3000's up for sale on Craigslist. I did recently purchase an RCF EVOX JMIX8 for our smaller shows. I'll probably get the non-mixer J8 version to complete my set and do a review on those in a month or so. If I like them I may end up buying the RCF EVOX 12 to replace my iP3000's. The quest to find the perfect column array continues!

      Fizyx well, they have sold literally thousands of these units around the world, they have had noting but positive reviews in all the Audio media. Thousands of users are very happy with them. I have a pair of them and a pair of ip2000s and my conclusion after watching this video is that he has no clue what he's talking about. For a start, sound is a very subjective thing, it's possible he has bad ears! It's possible that I do! Secondly, sound isn't the only measure of the usefulness or otherwise of this product. Great sight lines, portability, no more tripods, great bass response, extremely clear vocals and no dead spots in the room are fantastic selling points. If he doesn't like the sound of them, that's fair enough but that doesn't mean they sound bad!

      I haven't had a chance to test out any of those systems yet. I'm currently testing out the RCF JMIX8 at my events. I should have a review of that system out soon. I'm leaning towards purchasing the RCF EVOX12 next to try out a column array with a 15" Sub. I'd love to try out the Maui 44 with the add-on dual 12" subs but I'm not willing to drop the cash on that system since I already own the clone (iP3000). The DB Technologies ES1203 has really good specs and I'd love to get my hands on one to test out but I'm going to get the EVOX12 first.

    In reaction to some of your video's on these types of speakers ( Turbosound, Rcf,... ): I just bought two Turbosounds IP 3000's for more or less for the price of 1 RCF Evox 12 ! That's a no brainer. The JMIX 8 Is also +/- 50% more expensive than my IP3000 ( Europe )
    .
    The smaller IP2000's are great speakers ( I have 4 ) and I never think of selling these and that's for me a reference whether a product is ok.- or not. When I don't like it or feel that it isn't what I expected...they're gone. F.e. I owend K12.2's and everybody was saying that these are great speakers. Most of the time only positive comments are published. I've put these against other, some even a lot cheaper, 12" and had mixed feelings price/performance ratio on the QSC.The HK audio Linear 3/5 and Yamaha DSR's ( more expensive ) are that much better and I seem to be not the only one with these findings. So to compare apples with...:12" vs the Ip's: next to the ip2000 a k12.2 sounds like a shoebox (ok, they're different types and build for other setups, but at almost the same price, people should make the comparison and see how flexible an IP is over a single 12" Top: my choice was easy ) Bottomline: Turbosound IP systems are to me the way to go. They did an awesome job on the IP2000 and the IP3000 is the next step up. I waited for prices to come down on the IP3000 and made a good deal. The RCF evox 12 ( It has a 15" driver - misleading type '12') is also a good speaker, but way too expensive.
    I never got questions on what type of brand I was using, but with the Turbosound on stage, people are asking about the system and It has a reason...
    These are 'column array's' and when you want to change/add flexibility, you end up buying a 12" over a 18". Maybe the new SAMSON RESOUND VX8.1 might be the way to go, flexibility wise.
    Of course it's better for its purpose: 12+18: loud, louder, loudest....My experience in the business is that 'Expensive' doesn't mean that its better. It should be. 30 Years ago it was, but nowadays Marketing makes it expensive. I owned QSC KW181 and traded these in for the - 50% priced Turbosound TSP118BAN - This 695 euro 18" Turbosound sub puts itself next to the QSC 1329 euro sub. Pricing on speaker bags: Turbosound: great stuff at the right price. Some other brands: overpriced² - same quality!
    You can keep going on and on untill You end up buying a 8000 dollar+ set.
    ..Is it better ? It should be...fe RCF NX24/24
    You talk about heavy: Yes it is heavy, but that’s the way its build: there are 2x12” subs inside a solid cabinet.. You don’t buy a 18” heavy sub if you don’t want to carry it around. You don’t buy a IP3000 ,if it’s to heavy, then buy the IP2000. Yes the RCF Evox 12 is more flexible and handy, but would I pay almost double: no.
    I made a birch plywood board with blue wheels to transport the 3000 subs with the original covers. This was a small cost. - Turbosound should provide these boards and also an other style cover to use with the optional Turbosound wheel board !
    You paid 1050 dollar for a ip3000 and yet you say that there are better speakers than this…so tell me what speakers would be the better deal than the IP3000 you own(ed), within this price range... ?
    If I had to put something next to it it would be A JBL SRX815P or Yamaha DSR or higher line to produce the same amount and sound quality.
    You don't buy a Ip2000 - 3000, Evolve 50 or Evox 8/12 to blow people away. They produce Hi-Fi sound at moderate and decent volumes and to me the EVOX 12 and IP3000 are the way to go ( if You want higher spl’s on these type of speakers ) The IP2000 is ideal for numerous types of venues and online reviews prove that the IP2000 is a bestseller….
    IP 3000 will not sell as good as the 2000 and that’s mainly because of the weight and linear higher price. But to me I don’t regret at all buying the IP3000 and the IP2000’s.
    The Ip’s give me a smile whenever used and used for the things they’re made for...
    It all comes down to what you want to spend and what you expect it to do.
    All in all a great set.
    Last WE I used the IP3000's for a 150-200 people dj-ing job and I was thinking " would these be enough or should I bring 18" subs along ? ". Me and a collegue were amazed with the amount of bass produced. We had to turn the bass down - clean highs: overall 10/10
    That evening we were talking about memories / 30 years ago when we used the famous ( heavy !! ) JBL disco 100 speakers + top cabinets + Amcron amps. we thought this was it, but if we could have the Turbosound IP3000's back then: that much better/powerfull, clean and plenty of bass and 'lightweight'
    BTW, I do respect Your opinion/review.

      I did once and I didn't like the sound. The system isn't designed for it so it just gets bassy and out of balance. I think they would need to program a setting for that in it that tunes the system differently. I have sold my ip3000's. I just bought some RCF EVOX 12's to test out.

    Thanks for this video. i have a question regarding the feedback issues, did you input the speaker placement details while setting up the system?
    I have been given to understand that the inbuilt DSP does have settings regarding speaker placement in the room, and I would like to know, if the speaker is set correctly according to its position in the room, would that reduce the above mentioned experience of feedback due to uncontrollable throw?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I had the room positioning set to floor. I believe the room positioning setting deals mostly with bass frequencies. Such as if you position the speaker against a wall you will not only get ground coupling of the bass frequencies but also wall coupling of the bass frequencies which will give you roughly a 3 db boost in bass output. I would imagine the wall setting just dials back the bass a bit to compensate for the added coupling plane. The issue with feedback stems from this speaker having very poor rear rejection. It's very very loud behind the speaker. Almost as loud as it is in front of the speaker. I have owned many different models and brands of speakers over the years and this series of column arrays is definitely one of the worst I have ever encountered as it pertains to rear rejection and feedback.

      @@TheAngrySoundTech Thanks a lot for the information. I'm currently trying to narrow my purchase decision down between the IP 3000 and the EV Evolve 50. My main application will be for conferences, where the speaker stacks are placed about 3-5 meters away from the stage. The feedback is a concern considering the use of lapel mics(3-5) and the podium. Would you say that the feedback is something that could effect the mics in a larger more spread out situation?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do think you will run into feedback issues with the iP3000's. I also don't think you will be satisfied with the projection to the back of the room at a conference. The iP3000's are the speakers you look at and want to like because they look really nice but they will slowly show their shortcomings once you start to use them. I used mine for a very short time. After the last school event I put the iP3000's in a corner and haven't used them since and I don't plan on ever using them personally again. If you are narrowed down to the iP3000's and the Evolve 50's I would go with the Evolve 50's. You will be much happier with them in the long run. If I might add one speaker to reconsider it would be the RCF EVOX 8 or the EVOX J8. I know they don't look as sleek and clean as the Turbosound or EV since they have a pole and a cord. But the adjustable pole in a packed room will allow you to get the top speaker up above the crowd so people can hear clearly to the back of the room also there are 3 cord clips included so the cord stays hidden behind the pole. But between the two you mentioned I'd definitely go with the EV.

      They do get loud enough for that size crowd. The issue you will run into is if those 200-300 people are packed tightly in front of your setup the first row of people will block the majority of the sound coming out of the ip3000's. You really need to be able to get the sound up and over the crowd to have even coverage throughout the listening area. A standard point source speaker would perform better.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      After using these in a few different live situations in various rooms I have to say I would not recommend these to anyone for a permanent installation for a rock band. These speakers wash a lot of sound back onto the stage. Because of this at higher volumes they seem very prone to causing feedback issues. When using these speakers I've spent most of my time fighting feedback by continuously notching out feedback frequencies. This is something I'm not usually forced to do with our other speaker systems. For the price you would pay for these speakers i think the money could be better spent on a different system. Also the fact that you cannot adjust the height of the top speakers could be troublesome if you have a lot of people in the room. This system looks good and sounds good but their shortcomings slowing creep up on you the more you use them.

    • @abelduenas987

      The Angry Sound Tech I was afraid of that, I was looking to get even coverage due to the room being highly reverberant in the 200 to 800 Hz range. I guess the best option at this point is a point source speaker

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I really don't think the iP3000 will help your cause there. I think it will make things worse as a lot of my notching out of frequencies is from the 500 hz area. I personally would go with a good point source system and a DBX Driverack. I use the DBX Driverack PA2 in a venue we have a system installed in and it works out well to save system presets. We never use the auto EQ function, everything is done manually. But it makes it nice and easy for each sound tech to save their own room eq for their mixing preference. My only wish is that it had 3 inputs so we could do aux fed subs. For our bigger mobile system we use two Driverack PA2's so we have one for Left/Right and the other for Front Fill/Subs.

      The Angry Sound Tech wow, I couldn't disagree with you more on your comments. I have 2 x ip3000s in a permanent install situation for live bands and frankly, that room has never sounded better! We have not experienced any of the feedback issues you speak of. We use a Soundcraft UI24 digital mixer and once the system was setup and eq'd for the room, it's sounded great ever since. There are several other things to consider, the improved sight lines to the stage are a big deal. No more poles or tripods for people to trip over. The hi tec look. Great sound for both live bands and djs. No dead spots in the room, it sounds great everywhere! One of the best things though is that you just don't seem to get that super loud, ear splitting sound at the front of the stage, with no volume at the back of the room! It's a very even sound, no matter where you're standing. The bands love this system and everyone wants to play through it and that's a win in my book.

      Personally I wouldn't use them for a full band ever again. But I've had comments on my videos from people that rave about using them for band sound. Opinions definitely vary on this product. In a live sound situation I prefer standard point source or a true line array. Column arrays are a half measure that just doesn't have the consistency of point source and also lacks the benefits of a true line array. It's a fancy looking half measure. Very nice video! Now, I have a question. I want a maui 44 stereo system to use it on gigs up to 350 people in a tent. I want the maui 44 because they are almost the same price that the ip3000 here in Mexico and they offer the sub extention for scalability. With a price around 2200 usd for the maui and 2000 for the ip3000, would you say it is a good option to go for LD systems? I ask because I really dont have the option to have a demo on them and I am sort of blind in this. I know they both sound great, the question is which one sounds better and which one gets louder.

      I've only had a chance to listen to the Maui 5. I haven't been able to listen to the Maui 44. Just a side note the Maui 44 V2 is coming out very soon. It will have a single 15" instead of dual 12's and be able to do cardioid mode with the extension subwoofer. Now from what I've heard from other people is that the Maui systems are better than the Turbosound systems. But I can't personally vouch for that. I've been thinking about trying out a different brand of column array and I'm debating between one from HK Audio and LD Systems. I personally wouldn't buy Turbosound again.

      @@TheAngrySoundTech I didn't know there was a v2 comming soon, and it might take some time before we see it here in Mexico (Ld systems is not very popular here). Now, HK is a great sounding product. I often work with their systems and they sound amazing...the downside is that they are not a bulletproof system. They clip out quite often, have some amp problems, i've had a couple speakers blown on them, amps failing an thermal issues on gigs. If you are leaning towards a big pointsource system I would go with EV (QSC needs to get new models and I dont Like how JBL sounds). If you want to get a column type of speaker maybe the new 44's or the Curv 500Ts from LD Systems will do good. Thse are the two systems I had considered the most.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You definitely could do that. it is pretty heavy so you would have to make a heavy duty stand which would mean more heavy stuff to bring with to gigs. Also one of my Pros for this speaker is the design. I love the look of this thing. It wouldn't look quite a sleek with a home made stand under it. Also you would lose some bass volume as subwoofers placed on the ground have the benefit of ground coupling that increases bass output. Most subwoofers SPL is calculated in half space which means it is placed on the floor. Some higher end subs designed to be hung will also list their SPL in full space which you'll notice will be significantly less.

The ones I have used so far have been better than other brands I've used to date. I have not used any of the DSR series yet. The subs I own are the DXS12MKII and the DXS18XLF. I would use a pair DXS12MKII's for weddings and school dances up to about 200-250 people (crossed over at 80Hz). For shows around 250 where I know I'm going to be wanting a club sound with deep bass I'd obviously bring my DXS18XLF's. I went with those two models so I'd have light, loud and portable as well as big, deep and powerful. Now if I was to just have one model of sub I'd probably hit it in the middle and go with the DXS15MKII. The DXS12MKII is great but if I was to use them for live sound with a rock band I think I'd want 4 of them. But with that being said it really depends on what type of live sound you're doing. The DXS12MKII get's nice and loud, it just doesn't go super deep.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah... With column arrays they always tout the wide dispersion as an advantage but it's really a lack of control in sound projection. Thus leading to feedback issues. The best tip I can give you if you have the Ip3000's is get them as far away from your DJ table as possible. If you're set up with a 20x20 dance floor in front of you. Do your best to push your speakers out as far to the edges of the dance floor as possible. This will help and because of the wide dispersion you shouldn't have any sound dead zones on the dance floor. But it won't be as loud right at the DJ table so it will help with feedback.

      @@dreamdaycharleston The physics behind how sound propagates out of each speaker is the same. The key difference is EV spent a lot of time developing the Evolve 50. Now it looks like they are $1999 everywhere. My dealer cost has now gone up to $1638. So the price has actually gone up recently. The iP3000 is a copy cat design of the LD Systems Maui 44 which is $2999 so that's the speaker you might have seen at that higher price. Just my 2 cents here but if you're going to spend $4,000 on a sound system you can get something way better than this. I have not used the new K12.2's so I can not speak to how good they are. You clearly don't understand how these speakers are designed to work. These are an array. There are multiple speakers placed at different angles, handling different frequencies. You do not need to adjust the height. They are designed to work the way they are! Even someone standing in front of the speakers won't block the sound!
    Why do you need to rotate these speakers? You don't! They have a 120 degree spread. Besides, if you set them up properly to begin with, you won't have to move them! Your reasons are frankly, lame.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Where do I begin.... Yes, this speaker system is a column array. I sold my pair but if I remember correctly none of the speakers were set at different angles. They were all front facing and perfectly in line with each other. Yes as I said in the video there is a 5 way crossover built into this column which means when you take out the compression drivers and the subs there are 3 crossover points in the speaker array. Now if you know how a true array is supposed to work you should know that each speaker is supposed to be doing the same thing. If they don't do the same thing they're not working together as an array. So this is in effect three small arrays stacked on top of each other. As for someone standing in front of a speaker and not blocking sound?? Just because you have a speaker array doesn't mean that sound waves magically pass through human bodies. Bodies absorb sound, it doesn't matter what kind of speaker you have. If you don't have your speakers above the crowd bodies will absorb the sound. As for why you would need to rotate the speaker.... I did one event with these where I had the speakers pointing one way for a cross country race and I needed to turn them 180 degrees after the race to have coverage for the awards ceremony. Speakers get used in many different situations. Just because you can't think of why a speaker would need to be rotated doesn't mean a reason doesn't exist.
      I assume you own these speakers and you like them. If you do that's great, I'm happy they work for you. I owned these, personally used them and I found them to have shortcomings that I couldn't live with so I purchased different speakers that didn't experience the same issues. If every speaker was perfect with their first design speaker companies would never need to come out with new versions. Perhaps when you see a Turbosound iP3000v2 some of the issues I mentioned will be addressed. But until then I stand by my opinion that there are better options available when it comes to column arrays.

    • @officialWWM
      @officialWWM 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Angry Sound Tech sounds like you simply bought the wrong speaker for your application! Look at your cross country event scenario. Sounds like you went under gunned. If I was to do an event like that, I would have taken 2 speaker setups. One facing one direction, one facing the other, that's the pro way to do it.
      The reason bodies standing in front of the speakers don't matter as much as a point source speaker is because of the incredibly wide dispersion. Sound is simply fired around people and reflected off hard surfaces. All you have to do is turn the volume up a little! As long as you have a system either side of the stage, there will be very few dead spots in the room! In all cases, the best place to listen to speakers is from about 5 or 6 metres back as it gives the sound time to develop.
      Lifting speakers up is NOT the answer, even with a box speaker! The horns should always be placed at just above head level so they fire to the back of the room. If you simply lift a box speaker higher, the people at the front won't hear any tops at all! In the case of the ip series systems, they are designed to be at the perfect height to achieve that. They should always simply be placed on the floor as that's how they are designed to work. You get the best bass response with the sub on the floor and the best throw of mids and highs. If you are using them incorrectly or using the wrong system for the job, that is not the fault of the designer!
      Also, these systems are not a line array, they are a column array. As you correctly explained, most line arrays are essentially a 2 bunch of 2 way boxes stacked on top of each other. The difference however, is that they are designed to be flown in a J pattern to spread sound evenly from front to back of a large space. They are completely different technology and should not be compared to a small, mobile column array. The only thing they have in common is that they use multiple speakers.
      I have 4 x.ip3000 and 2xip2000. I have one pair in a permanent install in a club and that room has never sounded better, bands love to play there now! Personally, I think this style of speaker system is a revolution for mobile PA technology, my point source stuff rarely gets used anymore, it's simply old fashioned, outdated technology.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think we might have to agree to disagree on this one. I tried to clearly explain what I thought the pros and cons were of this speaker after using it for multiple types of events. I try to be honest with every review I give. I say what I like about a product and what I don't like about it. These were a good value at $1500 USD each. But had some shortcomings that I couldn't live with so I sold them and bought a different brand. Now I will say since they raised the price to $2,000 each I don't think they are a good value at all and they still have all the shortcomings.
      If you own them and you are happy with them that's great. But here in Fargo, ND if you've got $4,000 to spend on a speaker system there are better options available.

    • @officialWWM
      @officialWWM 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Angry Sound Tech my issue with your review is that I didn't hear you mention ANY pros about the system, which in my opinion far outweigh any cons! I.e, no more tripod stands, a solid footprint, improved sightlines to the stage, immensely better sound spread and throw than any point source system, amazing clarity of sound, especially spoken word! lightweight, easier transportation, in a lot of cases no foldback required, no need to lift heavy speakers over your head, can easily be set up by one person, despite what you think, as long as you set them up on the floor, they will be at the correct height every time!. I feel like you have completely missed the point of this type of speaker system. It's also evident by some of the things you said that you clearly don't really understand sound reinforcement or engineering which makes one assume you have no clue what you're talking about. That in itself is fine, we all have to learn but the problem is, you're commenting on a product you clearly used incorrectly and that's misleading to anyone researching the product.
      No speaker system is perfect in every situation, however, these types of systems are probably the most versatile on the market when used and setup correctly.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well you might want to go back and watch my video again because the first thing I do is go over my list of pros. 1. Solid build construction 2. Quality covers 3. Clean look (I even said it's one of the best looking column arrays on the market) 4. The five way crossover enables it to have better full range of sound 5. Great price to performance ratio - This was all in the first 8 minutes of the video. Did you actually watch my review and pay attention or did you just skip through it?
      I have to ask. Do you work for Turbosound? Because this product is not best in class by any means. So I must assume you are either a Turbosound fanboy or you work for the company. This is a very middle of the road column array with many design flaws. First of all the throw with this speaker is no better than a point source. Do you even know how line arrays works? I like how you question my knowledge when I think you lack basic understanding of line array principles. Like to achieve line array benefits such as focused directionality you need the source to be larger than the wave it's trying to generate. The 5 way crossover in this thing kills any potential for having a long array to achieve some focus. Once again listen to my video...I'm pretty sure I explain this. Maybe the columns are lightweight. But the sub is heavy and the handles are low to the ground. I threw my back out on a gig with these things. They are not light weight or easy to move around. Yeah, they are designed to be set up on the ground. I agree with that. But what I don't agree with is that the amazingly wide dispersion allows for reflections to bounce of walls and compensate for people standing in front of a speaker. What pro sound guy bases his room coverage off wall reflections?? I mean.. are you serious? I don't know how you run sound but I try to minimize refection in my business and direct sound from the speakers at my audience. Not hope they hear a reflection off a wall. If you're running sound in an empty room these things are great. If you have an audience standing in front of them they will block the sound and 40 feet back you will have no sound. You need to get audio up above the heads of your crowd.
      Bottom line this is a poorly engineered speaker and there are way better options out there. I'd like to keep arguing with you but either you work for Turbosound, you are a fanboy that can't believe anyone would say something negative about your speaker or you haven't used many different models or brands speakers. Which I understand if you have nothing to compare this speaker to then to you it is probably the best thing you've ever used. As for me I've used many different speakers, many different column arrays, point source systems and line arrays frankly this one just falls short.
