Have not checked into R/C pattern in a long time. these planes are shockingly different from the planes I used to follow in the 70’s.

Man Rusty, I'd love to text you to hear more about electric pattern. I almost bought one about 15 years ago, but didn't pull the trigger. These aircraft look sensational! I live in NW Illinois so not too many contests near me. - Bob

Ahhhh...they look like flying fish. Give me a UFO or a Curare any day. 😂

They need a rule that the planes should at least resemble a real in-service aircraft.

Pattern is (unless you are competing) like watching paint dry.

      Even if you are competing..

unfortunately Pattern Planes continue the trend of uglification... remember when they looked awesome? Mach One, Deception, Jekyl etc

Too bad you didn’t use archival film from pattern contests instead of what appears to be TOC coverage.

      AMA made the film.

@@CaliWestCoastChris which is even more reason they should have used the correct historical footage.

I noticed that too. BUT the first TOC was F3A pattern. The Scale contest was added in 1977, and dropped in 1978. The format later changed and required the aircraft to be modeled after full scale aerobatic aircraft and used the Aresti catalog for maneuvers and flew in "the box" I remember my Dad getting all bent out of shape because the prize money for the pattern event was much higher than the scale event. Hanno Prettner won and won and won..Lots more history can be found. It was an amazing week to go to Las Vegas and see this as well as the 1/4 Scale Associations fly in at the showboat and dry lake bed.

Beautiful and ugly at the same time...very interesting F3A era we live now.

Ugliest planes ever. Look like ufo’s. I sketched one like this 10 yrs ago pondering the future of pattern. Looks the same right side up/ upside down. Next they’ll have a third wing perpendicular to eliminate knife edge. Like watching paint dry, even worse waiting for your round. Blah.

These are by far and away the ugliest pattern aircraft I have yet to see in my 20 years of Rc flying.
