One of the greatest frontwomen in rock history. She could keep a crowd in the palm of her hand like few others. The voice, the look, the songs, all of it.
The weirdest thing about this song is how the original version was a pretty upbeat tune with lyrics that sounded like they came straight from a clingy girlfriend… then Tony broke up with her on the grounds that he needed “space,” which tracks given the lyrics of the original version. She then responded by completely replacing the original lyrics with the harsh, cutting ones that we all know. In effect, the evolution of this single song from demo to final version is the perfect encapsulation of the end of their relationship.
30 years later, and I still absolutely love this song...and I agree with your first point...but to say that she's one of the "greatest female performers in the history of pop/rock"? *NOT! She's good, but not even close to #1 !!* LOL
@@derekbaker3279 Wow ok. I've been around for over 50 years and heard them all. Who you got above her? Pat Benatar? Joan Jett? (Karen Carpenter would not really qualify, by genre). Let's hear them! As a Gen-Xer this will be interesting for me to see listed.
How could she sing this with Tony right there like thousands of times? I've seen No Doubt twice and solo Gwen once and I still can't believe she does this, Tragic Kingdom indeed.
It is the emotional pain that she went through that motivated her to write all of the songs in Tragic Kingdom. It is too bad that her brother gave up on the music business and quit the band to have a normal life. That was tragic too! Great for us that Gwen stuck with it!
It was shot with a professional TV studio camera. The recording wasn’t 100p or low quality you only think so because of the awful transfer and TH-cam compression.
Esta es una de las pocas vocalistas que tienen una voz privilegiada entre ellas esta esta chica y mi adorada Selena nada qué ver con las de ahora que usan play black
@@infnityonhigh hey I like your honesty but that was me being sarcastic anyway that's too bad such a fine girl so you know shit was crazy in that relationship.
William Rodriquez lol I wasn't sure. Hard to read sarcasm over text sometimes. Idk considering they still stayed friends and stuff after all these years I feel like maybe it wasn't crazy and it was more like they really just weren't for each other or they wanted different things. Seems like Gwen was ready to settle down and he probably wasn't.
1st love, have you seen the prom pictures? 87-94 7yrs. An I bet he broke up w her for some groupies and he knew she was gonna be a SUPERSTAR!! THEY STILL LOVE EACHOTHER, ALWAYS WILL!!
Damn I miss the 90s, I'm so grateful I grew up in one of the many greatest years of music!
I didn't :(, you're lucky
Yep, we didn't even know. It was just great and we had no clue. We just lived it.
@@MrElliptific that's the best because if you are thinking it just won't be fun anymore
I watched this live on TV and taped it and watched it over and over. I was obsessed with No Doubt

You're going to LOVE Lzzy Hale then.
One of the most beautiful women in the world as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for this interesting molecule of pop history !
She is one of best looking and greatest female performers in the history of pop/rock. In fact, possibly #1.

It's just a song, not that deep
@@user-fj4sk4uj7c It’s a song about their breakup. It’s her emotions, not just a song.

They're adults, not children lmao I'm sure they're over it by now💀
They're more richer 'cause this song XD

I have always said that too. Tony is totally underrated. Listen to his playing on the song "Snakes". Very melodic.

Can’t help but wonder if Tony ever regrets his decision to end their relationship 😟
We never would have had Tragic Kindom if they didn't break up.

Steven Bradley, keybordist, a black guy in the back 1:03

Why every time she sings this song she can't never look at the base player? Hmmmm.?
William Rodriquez probably because it's a song about their relationship that ended lol
