      The first half he was playing for the field goal and wasn’t risking losing the ball. I don’t agree with it, but there is at least logic to it. If the defense continued the way it was and the first, and the commanders kept shooting themselves in the foot, like they kept doing early in the third quarter, it wouldn’t have been as dumb. The second half there is literally no defending. You have a kicker you just signed who is known for not having a big leg, and you did nothing to help them get into his field goal range. Actually insanely stupid.

      The TRUTH is you saw an overwhelmed Falcons QB in Washington who had 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 Fumbles (that were luckily both recovered by the Falcons) & 2 Rushes for 3 Yards. Now compare that to Jaden Daniels 3 TD, 1 INT, 16 Rushes for 127 Yards. The Falcons were OBVIOUSLY outplayed at the QB Position

    There were a lot of things that cost us but coaching did not not help. We beat ourselves a lot during this game not spying Daniels, missing tackles and managing their timeouts was big. The coaching staff didn't make any adjustments after Daniels started scrambling. I would also disagree that the mismanagement on the timeouts wouldn't be a fire able offense. The bears fired their coach and they lost multiple games this year where they mismanaged their timeouts and just time management at the end of games/end of halves.

    This game wasn't as close as it seemed. In the first half Washington's penalties ended a few of thier drives. They mostly cleaned that up in the 2nd half, hence the 2 long drives and the time of possession disparity. That being said, poor clock management, lack of defensive adjustments and Washington being a better overall team cost the Falcons the game. But I see a lot of things to be excited about this team going forward.

    If it not for a back up corner back on commanders , michael penix would have been miserable last night.
    He's a rookie so it's OK for now . I don't know how you fix certain mechanics from a left handed qb who has a heck of an arm but seems to have a problem with finesse .....and with wide open receivers.
    He had same problem in college ....especially against the better teams but had 3 soon to be nfl wide receivers ( one - who will be , eventually, a stud) and best oline in pac 12.
    He has 11+ inch hands and that should be such an advantage in passing mechanics . He also has a major injury background which will prevent him to be this running qb. He has some mobility so theres that.
    I don't know how Cousins just fell off a cliff like he seemingly did. I just can't buy into that unless he actually talks retirement then we can go back and point to the how and when. He's 97% gone so I don't know how I feel about the qb position going forward.
    Again, Penix deserves benefit of doubt as its his 2nd game but I don't know.

    This game was actually nearly all on the coaching staff. After doing thousands of hours of research on Hall of Fame quarterbacks I can tell you that coaching is about 50% of the game and the players performance in total only about 50%. Might sound crazy but I would challenge you to watch football going forward with that in mind and I think it won't be too long before you agree.
    The biggest coaching mistake by far was benching Kirk Cousins. Let me explain. Kirk had 6 starts against the league's elite defenses, only the Bears have had that many. In those 6 starts his completion % was 64.7 and his yards per attempt was 7.4. The league averages against those defenses are 52.5 and 5.4. It is very possible that Kirk was the best in the league against those teams. He didn't throw many touchdowns but it is hard to throw touchdowns when your play caller only lets you throw when you have to throw and hardly at all in the red zone.
    Kirk faced 5 defenses that were the quality of the Commanders and his completion % was 13.9% better than Penix with a whopping 1.6 better Y/A and a 9/4 touchdown to Int ratio. Cousins was even better in his 3 games against the defenses the quality of the Giants despite the terrible play calling.
    Robinson's play calling has been much improved since Penix took the reins. Against the Commanders he threw 50% on first down, 70 % on 2nd and medium, 100 % on 3rd and medium and 3rd and short and even 25% on 2nd and short. That is really setting the quarterback up for success. Who knows how much better Cousins would have been with that play calling but it would likely have been substantial.
    Penix had 10 bad to poor passes in this game. I don't think Cousins had 10 bad to poor passes in his two worst games combined. With all the bad play calling and the difficult schedule Kirk was still 3rd in the league in yards in a run first offense. He was the only quarterback with two receivers on a pace to 1,000 yards and he was on a pace to break his own record for most receptions by 4 different receivers. He was also on a pace to break the record for most receptions by 5 different receivers despite Pitts lack of effort. That adds up to a very impressive season.
    Robinson and Morris destroyed what could have been, should have been, the best offense in the league. A Cousins led offense dragged a much worst defense to a 13-4 season in 2022 and this season should have been even better with a better offensive line and better running game than Kirk had that season. But coaching is 50% of the game.

    • @pj5491
      @pj5491 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Kirk is hurt. You saw what he did against the Raiders. We probably get shut out with him at the helm in this game. Having said that, we have a terrible HC. My heart sunk when he was hired, as it had desperation all over it. You should never be in a position where games are lost by boneheaded decisions and clock management issues, and Morris does that in spades. We will be a fringe playoff team/mediocre at best with him running the show.

      @bryanjones4444 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@pj5491 I don't think Kirk is hurt. He chased down a defensive back in August and said that's when he knew he was all right. Against the Raiders he should have had a great game against that defense but the coaching staff took the ball out of his hands until it was 3rd and long. He threw two passes that were deemed bad passes but one was going to be a completion for a first down but was tipped at the line and turned into an interception and the other one was perfectly thrown to the open spot in the zone which would have been another first down but Ray Ray didn't stop in the open spot and it looked like Kirk threw it behind him. Both "bad throws" were not his fault. The coaching staff's decision to not let Kirk participate in that game came within inches of the Falcons losing to maybe the worst team in the league. I think the reason that they took the ball out of his hands that game was because they wanted a reason to go to Penix and play with their new toy and it cost them a trip to the playoffs, no doubt about it. Under the circumstances of the schedule and the play calling Kirk had one of the top 5 seasons of any QB in the league this season.

They can not make the adjustments critical to winning. Why would u not call a timeout late in the game? My nephew is 10 and playing madden instructs u to call timeout. Try to trade for Sean McVay, tired of the same old crap of “oh hey falcons have talent they can do something this year.” Get a head coach that is worth a damn and make sure you have Dale Earnhardt driving the fancy Porsche and not some 18 year old punk. For the past 5-7 years, Atlanta has been letting some 18 year old punk drive a Porsche, bad coaching has always weighed this team down regardless of you think the talent is overrated.

      So Penix was supposed to be better than the best rookie QB ever in his first road start? Not realistic. Penix gave us a chance to win on the road. He made some very clutch throws and he shows a lot of promise for the future. Not his fault we couldn’t stop Daniels from running in the 2nd half or that Coach Morris’ clock management was horrible. We should not have abandoned the run in the 2nd half either. I get that Washington was stacking the box but I don’t know that a couple of stops would have taken me away from calling runs for both Bijan and Tyler.

    Or was it the Penix pick or was it the missed FG or was it the penalties or was it something else? Let's suppose that they called the time out and got two more plays. Are you sure that they would have won the game? In my opinion, the most important factor was failure to stop the final drive that cost them the game. Raheem Morris gave the explanation that he thought they would get the play off quickly. It did look to me like they were not in a big hurry for some reason. After a loss, there seems to be some burning need to find a scapegoat. I saw lots of errors on offense, defense. and special teams. Stuff upper lip, the Falcons lost but still have a small chance for a playoff spot. There were bad calls on both teams and some of them were pivotal. I guess the coach will learn from his mistakes, because we all do. As for spying on Jaden Daniels, it's like having a spy on Michael Vick. Everyone had a plan to stop Vick, but how did that work out? You cannot spy Daniels with a linebacker, not fast enough, If you use a safety, is Daniels any good at passing? Oh dear. One loss in overtime and the crowds are gathering with pitchforks and torches. You have a lot of talent, and even Pitts looked good today. See how you feel tomorrow morning. Penix threw a pick and had three overthrows that I saw. But I watched him for every game at the University of Washington and his misses are not characteristic of his play. He was 65% for his two years here and had more than 4500 yards both years. If you look at the Husky record, I think inconsistent is a strange adjective. But such descriptions are opinions, and my opinion is no better than anyone else. i am a Seahawks fan, and looking at the game from the outside, I thought both teams played well. I thought both quarterbacks were great. Lots of teams wish that they had the Falcon problems instead of their own problems. When someone talks about kicking a coach to the curb, the important question is "Who is available, clearly better than our coach, wants to coach here, and is willing to do it for what we an pay?"
    Pittsburg rarely fires their coaches. It seems to work well for them. Maybe, they are just good at choosing coaches or maybe they let the coaches learn and grow.

    • @trwent
      @trwent 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It is not a matter of finding scapegoats. It is expecting that a head coach who makes over $10 million a year can use basic common sense and master basic 3rd grade arithmetic. It was absolutely pathetic watching all that time bleed off the clock when all those timeouts were in the Falcons' pocket.

      @popjibbletz I've watched Penix since college, I also seen him step up last night, throw a game-tying TD to Pitts and then marched the team back down for a game-winning field goal. It's not Penix fault the Falcons kicker can't kick past 45 yards. Penix 2nd professional game was basically a playoff game. The Falcons defense then let the Redskins march down the field for 6. If this was Cousins the Falcons would have been blown out. With that said, Im a Bucs fan, so im happy regardless. Falcons fans are acting stupid over Penix 2nd game. Maybe the Falcons shouldn't have started the season 6-3 then lose 4 games straight.

    Raheem Morris costs the Falcons the division and post season play. He mis-managed his QBs. Should have let Penix played during pre-season and started him earlier.
