I found something that works great for protective dust caps for eyepieces. I found plastic caps for chair legs at the hardware store. I was able to find some that fit perfectly over standard eyepieces.

I like DIY cheap gear to improve the quality of microscope.
Thank you for the people who contribute to this, like Hadrian Meisengeiger and others.

1:05:14 This is what I did to protect my eyepiece. I just design cap and 3D printed them. I have 3 set of eyepiece. The ones that are not installed in the scope have 2 cap per eyepiece (one cap at each side) to protect them.

Great videos, especially this one! I'm new to the interest, solely based on your videos. I've decided to buy a reconditioned Carl Zeiss, ex-university unit. I'll also be buying a pipette and pipette tips. Please advise what are the most useful sizes of both these items, as there are many to choose from. Thanks... Pete Ellinger in the UK.

When trying to put a cover glass on a ringed slide, maybe put the cover on the ring dry and with a micro pipette filled with acetone, let capillary action pull the drops of acetone between the ring and the cover. That might be enough to get the cover glass to stick then when dry, top it off with another ring to make sure it is sealed. If this method works you wouldn't need a complete seal with the first ring since the second ring would do that.

Hello, and thank you for this very interesting video. Can you talk a little about converting a light microscope into an incident light microscope? Is there benefits to fiber optics versus LED, for example, or what to do with higher magnification objectives, etc. thanks.

You can use a strong flashlight (or fiber optics) to light the specimen from the top. This only works well for the low power objectives 4x and 10x, because for the higher magnifications the objective will make a shadow.

Very interesting. Thank you very much. I would like to read the undertitles. Many videos are undertitles in french or english. It is more easy to understand. I am from Quebec and my english is not good.
