Hey, this is called real life, we all burned something at some point in our lives cooking, I’m tired of burning rice stove top, don’t feel bad your chickens will be happy,,it’s a waste for you but not for chickens, it’s just another day, just make sure you stay cool enough and hydrated.
Poor Little Bo Peep I hope she pulls through...I love that your husband is rigged up a mister - what a handy fellow! Also... RIP to the pizza! Nothing to be embarrassed about though.
Freeze vegetables into large cake pans with water. Once frozen tip it out of the pans and take that solid ice chunk filled with veggies (or grubs/ mealworms) and tip against their cage where they are and they will pick at that frozen veggie "ice cake"
@@psymompa that's a yes on the bowl of ice in front of the fan. Above certain temperatures, it can be worse to have a fan because then you have circulation of hot air, rather than the expected cool air.
I'm in South Australia and we get similar heat to you guys next door, except for way up in northern WA. I've noticed that we are getting more humid however as well.
We freeze used gator ade bottles or water bottles. Then you can place these all around their cage. Also I have a garage bag in our freezer to put the melted bottles & rinsed off bottles back in the freezer so nothing touches our food.. Use your outside grill to bake your pizza. NEVER USE YOUR OVEN IN THIS HEAT. When it is this hot I just crank up our gas grill put the pizza in on the grates & TURN OFF THE GRILL SHUT THE LID it cooks perfectly.. GOD BLESS from Julie West Central IN Farmland ✝️🇺🇸💕🚜
I LEFT FOR FIVE DAAAAYS and you went from 20k to 36k 😱 that is so awesome! I hope your chickens do well! I appreciate all of your trial and error process ♥️
Ohhhhh Becky.... life happens and you took care of the most important thing saving the chickens!!!! If burning the pizza was the worst thing that happened, then you had a good day!!!!! Don't sweat the small stuff!!!! You and your husband are absolutely doing great ❤️ don't be hard on yourself... you are amazing! I am so impressed at how you take everything on and handle the situations so well!!!!!🙏❤️ BTW that was such a lovely story how you and your husband saved bopeep! ❤️
Aw this may be the first time ever I've seen something not come out perfect Becky. You n Josh are amazing with all you do. Some lucky chickens there✌🇨🇦
Everyone needs a house chicken! I can't believe you are making pizza in that heat. It hasn't even been close to that hot here in TN, but I am not turning my oven on. About the burnt pizza.... It just shows that you are only human. I too hate wasting food, so I feel your pain.
I didn't even use the stovetop in my house during that week. That thing felt like a blast furnace when we tried using it. It was either microwave, instant pot or the side burner on the bbq.
@@mustwereallydothis I don't blame you. I can't take the heat anymore. I cooked in my air fryer last night, even though it puts off heat, it is nothing like using the oven.
I have done that when it gets over a 100 degrees here in Georgia. I also have a shade cloth for them to be under, also I have a mister. Frozen sliced watermelon they love.
We used to raise chickens to show at the 4-H fair. My kids would give them a bath and rinse them in downy water before the fair, to make their feathers soft and fluffy! They'd then use a blow dryer to dry them. Spectators couldn't believe they were getting a bath, then seeing them blow-dried really made them laugh! They were so soft and smelled of freshly washed clothes! LoL We kept egg layers for awhile, and we're down to just one chicken, that we let wander the yard, but it kept digging up our flower garden putting dirt into the sidewalk. My husband had it and decided to give it away. They very next day, he went outside to see dirt on the sidewalk again! It was our chocolate lab who was the culprit! I think he framed the chicken! They actually got along great, often sleeping together in his doghouse! That's unheard of, because labs are bird dogs and hunt them! He didn't like them at first, but it took VERY little training to let Hershey know the chickens were not to be hurt! It's all in how you train your pets!!
If i hadnt already subscribed to your channel i would of now after seeing the way you care for your chickens....i can tell you are totally my kind of person 💕from England
I use timers ANYTIME I'm doing more then just cooking one thing because it's just to easy to get distracted. Dang, wish I had known about your chicken problems. I could have helped a great deal. So many folks suggested misters yup, misters are great. Plus placing a sprinkler on top of the coop. But here's one more. If you don't already have some burlap get some. Soooo many uses for burlap around the garden/ homestead. In this instance drape some burlap down one side of the coop. Leave a mister spraying the burlap and place a box fan in front of the burlap so the air is pushing through the burlap and into the coop. Ta Da, you just built a swamp cooler giving your chickens their own old fashioned air conditioner. It really works. Plus I would place some low sided tubs or tub tops that can hold water in the coop. Pour in some water, a couple of inches, add some cubes and some of those frozen fruits and vegetables and just let the chickens figure out how nice it is to stand in the water and take their own water baths. Hopefully we won't be seeing those temperatures ever again but best get prepared just in case. Have a great day. Oh, I hope you didn't throw away your burnt pizza, the chickens would have loved peices of your pizza. They don't know what " burnt" is. 🐓🍕🍻😄
I need to start implementing this because I can't count how many times I almost (and sometimes did) burn something because I started doing something else because there is only so much you can finish in one day
@@asobimo5532 here's something to check out. Thermoworks has a wonderful timer with 4 timers built into it. I can set one for say 4 hours to check on a beef brisket I have in one of my smokers, another for another hour to check on my Babyback ribs. Another for say a couple of hours to check on my pulled pork and still have one left for anything else that pops up. All in one unit so I'm not misplacing timers. They come in a assortment of colors and are used by home cooks and professional chefs alike. Have a great day. 😃🌤⌛
Good morning I have chickens in Arizona where it's really hot we bought two small pools and fill them up with sand we wet the sand down and the chicken sit on the sand it cools them down they sit in the swimming pool on the wet sand
Oh hun I can feel your stress through the screen, I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Great job on the solutions for the chickens!! They are probably more comfortable than most people are during this horrid heat wave. Also, don't worry about the pizza, think of it this way, you made home made pizza and one of them was awesome looking. Even with the burnt one being removed from the value proposition you still saved money over ordering it. Not to mention it isn't full of the garbage that the ordered pizza is full of. You're doing great!
Don't worry to much Becky our chickens here run around here in 118+ for months on in. Just make sure they have shade and let them free range a bit. You don't want them all bunched together
Hi becky! I live in Texas and we have some of the hottest weather in the country!! Just this year 2022, we have had over 36 days straight of over 100 degrees and many of those days with the heat index was well over 110 to 115 °. What I do for my chickens in this heat.. at my local feed store they have little packets of electrolytes. I put one or two of those in the chicken's water. Depending on how big your water can is will depend on how many packets you would want to use. I also use a mister! You just hook a hose up to it and turn the water a small amount. I actually have to lay the mister on it's side because standing up it's too tall for the chickens. Also, I use an old bundt cake pan and fill it with water and berries. Then I freeze it solid. At the hottest point of the day I pop the ice with berries out of the bundt pan and put it on a tray with sides as it melts the chickens love to Peck at the berries and it seems to really make them feel better and cool down. I hope these tips help! I love watching your videos Becky, keep them coming!
I grew up on a poultry farm…. 2 things you could do to help them keep cool…. Get a kiddi pool and add 5-6 inches of water, throw a handful of large marbles in the water, they will be curious about them and jump in and play ( use large enough that they can’t swallow them). Keep the spritzer system your husband made going as well. Second is they need more space… it looked like they were a little too tight in the coop…. Too many bodies too close together equals extra body heat. ALSO just wanted to tell you that you have an amazing channel!!! I just found you and I wanna be your bestie👏🏻👏🏻. Good luck with the girls!
Don’t be so hard on yourself! I don’t have the stress of keeping chickens cool and I burn food more often than I like to admit…..and I’m in my 70s! God Bless you.

I keep frozen 2 liter bottles in my freezer. I put them in my chickens water in the afternoon. It helps them cool down. I also give them frozen watermelon.
Get foil emergency blankets and use those to drape over not only windows of the house but the chicken coop AND over the crops that will die from the intense sunlight. It saved my sugar snap peas last week. The peas that were in sunlight got scalded while the covered ones remained lush and green. It also helped having it in the windows. It was considerably more tolerable in the 115 degree weather. I think it would definitely benefit a chicken coop.

I'm in Perth, Australia and heatwaves over 40C (104F) are normal but 46C+ (115F) is a whole other level of hot. You are doing an awesome job taking care of your chickens. You'll probably lose some plants but please don't blame yourself for those - there's only so much you can do when it gets that hot and the chickens are definitely the priority!

Congratulation on 40K subscribers. You are so honest, autentical, down to earth that i will not be supriced if you hit 100k subscribers in no time. Keep posting those super clips. We all love to watch them.
I know you made chicken pizza and all, but being vegetarian, I cried when I heard you speak of Little Bo Peep. Thank you for being such a good mommy to those chickens in this heat wave you experienced. I know they appreciate your and your husbands efforts. Sending you light and love! I’m only 3 videos in and enjoying your channel TREMENDOUSLY!!! You have such a sweet and straight forward personality. I love it!
You have such a good heart! You and Josh are such a great team also. I love watching all of your video's. I play them when doing my food prep in the kitchen and I always get inspiration :) Thanks for everything you share with us!
My bff keeps a small amount of chickens. She has her coop setup with window screens at the top of the coop to help the hot air go out, and a big box fan attached to the screen on the coop door to help blow air through. She also keeps the run shaded and gives them frozen food and ice cubes.
Oh honey I felt ur pain! No worries. We love u. I don't know how u do all u do everyday. Josh, ur a diamond in the rough! So happy your chickens safe.God bless
wow, i almost cried when you where telling us how she is NOT going to die! we had a similar situation with our Sophia! i did make it to the vet and the bill was high, and the vet told me she will not make it and to think about putting her down. i could not do that, and yeah i might or might have not started bawling in front of the wet, but i didn't care! i was going to do whatever it took to keep her alive. i gave her water with a syringe during the day, to keep her hydrated and gave her her meds. after a week away from the flock and in our garage, she recovered and is now laying again and super happy! chickens are our family too!! and my teenage boy has such a special place in his heart for them!
i dont normally comment on youtube videos, but i just wanted to say- you are incredibly real and authentic. glad you show everything, fails and wins. i found you while researching for my move to near portland and your style of cooking and love of gardening just makes me love it! keep going just the way you are.
I know this is a couple months after the issues that you had but for the future...a less expensive ice option is to buy the thick, disposable foil bread pans. They usually come in 2 or 3 packs. I fill them up with water and freeze them. I have a 1 gallon water bin and they fit perfectly in there. They dissolve a lot slower than ice cubes. And make sure to add electrolyte to the water also. You can find it in the poultry isle at your local farm store.
Hi Becky. I am learning so much from you and taking notes for later use. but at the same time I am so happy for you for your subscriber are growing exponentially in just weeks. so happy for you.
Yikes! We had that level of heat here around then and we're zone 3b. Some of our public picnic benches were softening and we had to work hard to keep our small pets cool enough!
Becky I appreciate you showing you in real life. The burn pizza. You going everywhere to get things to save your chickens. We all have had days like that but you showed that when things happen you deal with it and do the best you can. My Mom died when we were small. Dad raised us by himself. When something out of ordinary happened he would say “ this too shall pass, you can handle this” I am so thankful he taught us to be strong. I saw that strength in you and was so proud and happy of how you dealt with it. Keep the videos coming. Oh and I am like you, doing several things at one time and sometimes meals get burned. Lol
I’m fairly new to your channel and love it so much that I’m now watching older videos while I’m at dialysis. One of the things I absolutely love about you is how real you are and that you leave your “learning experiences” in the video. Coincidentally, I just watched a pizza video before this one and already knew you’ve had success in the pizza department. It was also nice to hear the stories about your chickens. They are so fun to watch. Keep up the good work. 👏👏
My parents live in Eastern Washington and my dad put an AC unit in the chicken coop to help keep their birds alive. I love your solutions with the mister, ice bags, the frozen foods and also your dedication to your birds is heartwarming. I rarely set timers, too because they drive me nuts when they go off so I can definitely identify with the occasional "cajun" essence to pizzas. LOL
We get those temps now and then, in Australia , Victoria 3730 plenty of shade and huge container of ice blocks with mix veg in ur freezer are the go That way they entertain there self while stay cool
We all burn food at times dear. With all the things you do, id probably burn all my meals. Id feel sad if it had to go for waste, fortunately the chickens can have it. Bless you, you're an inspiration
Don't worry about having an "oh dear" moment in the kitchen we all have them !!!

Love the way your lil family loves your living things. True stewards ❤️❤️
What a great little husband
The burnt pizza is the most real thing I’ve ever seen. ☀️ I also never set tiers and it also drives my husband crazy...
At first I thought you have chickens for eggs etc., I love you even more, finding out that you are so caring for your chickens /pets! Great heart
Congratulation on 40K subscribers. You are so honest, autentical, down to earth that i will not be supriced if you hit 100k subscribers in no time. Keep posting those super clips. We all love to watch them.
Thank you so much 😊
Perfect baked dough for me; I ❤️ crispy!
I love watching your videos you’re so helpful
You are human and we all “burn” something. You saved your chickens and your story about Little Bo Beep made me cry. You are the best❤️
I love it!
Wow thanks you for sharing with me and being here!
The shade under trees is the coolest spot and they live in the wild in damp forests.
Misters and fans help lower the air temp.
Oh honey I felt ur pain! No worries. We love u. I don't know how u do all u do everyday. Josh, ur a diamond in the rough! So happy your chickens safe.God bless
😂😂😂frozen ice you are too funny
Bless your heart! We all have those days.
wow, i almost cried when you where telling us how she is NOT going to die! we had a similar situation with our Sophia! i did make it to the vet and the bill was high, and the vet told me she will not make it and to think about putting her down. i could not do that, and yeah i might or might have not started bawling in front of the wet, but i didn't care! i was going to do whatever it took to keep her alive. i gave her water with a syringe during the day, to keep her hydrated and gave her her meds. after a week away from the flock and in our garage, she recovered and is now laying again and super happy! chickens are our family too!! and my teenage boy has such a special place in his heart for them!
i dont normally comment on youtube videos, but i just wanted to say- you are incredibly real and authentic. glad you show everything, fails and wins. i found you while researching for my move to near portland and your style of cooking and love of gardening just makes me love it! keep going just the way you are.
Wow thank you so much
You can use shade cloths for plants when it's extra hot! But I'm sure they're hard to find right now
I know this is a couple months after the issues that you had but for the future...a less expensive ice option is to buy the thick, disposable foil bread pans.
LOVE..... We all have been there.. just did it last week .
My mother in-law and I LOVE making homemade vanilla
Love the honesty, it makes me want to watch more of your videos.
Oh good :)
Yikes! We had that level of heat here around then and we're zone 3b. Some of our public picnic benches were softening and we had to work hard to keep our small pets cool enough!
Our chickens are our pets too. They work hard for us. We would be doing they same for ours if we were having those temps! Your hubby is wonderful!
Lol
Yay! I’m glad you are here!
I’ve watched 5 of your videos since noon. I love your channel and the info you have . Keep this awesome channel going.
Wow!! Thank you
I’m fairly new to your channel and love it so much that I’m now watching older videos while I’m at dialysis. 👏👏
Enjoying every video. Thanks for the sincerity. :)
LOL
We get those temps now and then, in Australia , Victoria 3730 plenty of shade and huge container of ice blocks with mix veg in ur freezer are the go
That way they entertain there self while stay cool
We all burn food at times dear. With all the things you do, id probably burn all my meals. Id feel sad if it had to go for waste, fortunately the chickens can have it. Bless you, you're an inspiration
Real-life situations. Thanks for sharing-even your failures!! Love your videos and I learn so much from you.
