We have started seeing these in Northern Kentucky. A pair was spotted at the airport, and we have a pair nesting by our garden. They are magnificent birds.
We are in Bear Lake Utah and just discovered a Ferruginous Hawk nest at the top of a pine tree near the house. She is beautiful, thank you for this informative video!
Nice, informative video! I think one visits me in California, and I think I just saw him today, taking off from a tree outside my back door and leaving behind some regurgitated food remnants. We have cottontail rabbits, squirrels, ground squirrels, and possibly some moles for our friend. I hear winter is coming farther north. It is nice and warm here. I hope he sticks around. It is such a beautiful bird!

Birds of prey have some similar habits to a dog. So when they get hot, or excited or nervous, they can pant similar to a dog. Falcons and eagles have stronger stomach acids so they can digest a bit more than owls can, plus they tend to pick the meat off the bones more so they don't always have the pellets similar to an owl, but will occassionally cast out some of the fur and bones that does get ingested that they don't need.
