Asking for some help. Got an HPI 1/10 with a small engine and a rotostart system. Cleaned up everything. Rotostart gets the engine started right away. If I just idle, all is good. When I throttle it, the engine dies. The odd issue though: When I turn the rotostart shaft in the reverse direction, it feels like the one way bearing is grabbing. Could this stall the engine? It has good compression and is clean inside. The rotostart gears and one way bearing should move freely in the reverse direction.

Have you set the fuel/air adjustments on the carb? try 1 1/2 turns on the low end and try 3 1/2 turns on the high needle. its a good base to work from. then small adjustments at a time. once the low end is set it needs no further adjustment. but the high end will need tweaking from one day to the next due to weather conditions, humidity and everything else.

@@HowlinWolfRC I've tried many different adjustment. No matter how I adjust it, it will always start easily, idle , never dies when idling. Then when I throttle the engine dies always the same way. I am considering a possible air leak at the front main bearing or hopefully the rear plate seal. This would be the first of maybe 15 nitro engines I've run that behaves this way regardless of settings. Thanks for the good tips.

you are correct the one way bearing should only catch when starting then go to a free spin mode, if it is catching under load as the engine is running it will stall the engine and it will have to be replaced. also if clutch shoes are worn it will also cause a stall on acceleration.

Howl I got a brand new savage 4.6 , engine is locked up on first try I pulled plug still will not budge I took rotostart plate off and turned one way bearing around ,the 1 way shoulder was up against backplate like manual says it should but I took it off and put it on the opposite way with shoulder facing rotostart and WALA it turned over. I know it's on backwards but it works do u see any problem with it on like that?

It is on right if the engine starts. It was assembled wrong when the rotostart adapter was installed. Nice quick fix.

    Hey
I have the newest model of the savage x 4.6
and when i try to start it, it doesn't turn the engine around. Do you think it's the one way bearing that causes this problem? :D

YES. But the bearing is behaving normally after a good soaking and clean/lube. I don't want to waste 20 bucks on a possible cause. but as a last ditch I will.
