I would never place my A77s face down on the front plate, even on a foam cushion. The beast is heavy and it is easy to loose your grip. If it falls, the tension arm and the S1-S4 switch shafts can bend. The machine is too heavy to rest on its face. I learned that the hard way. The only safe way to do this is to build a frame which raises the machine high enough so that the knobs, spindles and tension arm do not rest on the work surface. Otherwise, a great video. Thanks for posting.
I rebuilt my A77-III `73 about 20 years ago. I replaced and matched metal film resistors, removed all tantalums and replaced them with bipolar electrolytics paralled with polystyrenes. Quiet, linear, and 20 db better common mode rejection. What a great semi-pro deck! 3/1/2014 DGM
PB SWISS TOOL SCREWDRIVER!!! the best of the best for me (piano tuner and repairer and audio-lover). Bravo. You don' t ruin screws, abc of well-working. Cheers
Still enjoying my two A77-HS recorders from 1975 and 1976. More than 40 years later, they still work as new! (I replaced capacitors and trimpots in the past and realigned the machines.)
I have two Revox A77 HS recorders from 1975. I have replaced all capacitors and trimpots. Also calibrated and biased the machines correctly. They are like new and still sound excellent!
I have 2 model A77's here in the shop. One question : At 3:30 in the video I can see the tape moving along those two chrome guide wheels. Are those free-spinning or , is the tape just brushing the surface? Thanks
Very nice machine I had two A77 MkI 2 tracks and one MkIII 4 tracks I currently have a B77 4 tracks But I would like to get an A77 in optimal condition.a Hug
I have a revox a77 its a older model removed from a cca radio automation unit its mounted on a rack panel . how do I remove the the control panel to replace the bulb for the power on light?
Lay the machine on its back (horizontally). At first you pull off all the knobs and turning discs from the front (be careful with the mains switch knob, do not pry one-sidely, it may break!). Then remove the two screws left and right under the aluminium (or plastic-) lid and pull the panel upwards. It is held by four bolts in spring-sleeves and perhaps you have to use a screw driver between housing and panel to pry it loose. Then you can lift it off. The lamp is a 36 V/50 mA-type with socket Ba7s. Only the short version will fit (20-21mm lenght)!

The foam cushions are made exactly for this. In ReVox Service we used to do this each day. Necer had the slightest problem, of course with the foam.

The earlier versions with the fixed left tape guide were a pain in the ass when trying to calibrate resistance.

Hello ! Very nice ! good morning from France !
i'm the M219 Brandt ....!
HELLO MACRON VIVA LA FRANCE
can you post a video on how to calibrate a revox a77
Is this a factory high speed? I have my doubts because you keep the speed selector switch out of your shots.
Nice video I just got a Revox A77 MK4 its fast forward, rewinds when hit play the capstan engage but freezes not play , what could be the problem ?
It needs a nice revision
Excellent !
Oh, please bring back quality made things....next to a Scully...The A-77 was a favorite
Do both tape guides need to be moving all bearings, or does the left one need to be fixed?
I’m a bit late, but only the left one needs to turn.
hy i have revox mk4 and i have a problem, the vu meter in play mode not working, only in record mode working, so why?
It is correct, it works in this way on the A77

В чём смысл этого видео???
