The eyes and hat issues on this are just too big to ignore, especially considering that it's such an expensive piece.
If you pause and read the description on the box at 2:15, it’s like it’s been translated from a foreign language on google. I know they’re doing their best, but stuff like this is so crap. It sums up the figure really, 10/10 for vision and effort but it just misses on the execution in places to really be special. 400 quid I don’t think there’s room for little flaws like this

He does not look like Ian McKellen but he looks great as repreentation of character in the books. Really cool but too expensive for me.
Asmus is just ok. Their past efforts are lax. This is the one that should have been past release, what they charge for it is too high.
Fun fact that no one cares about, the "YOU SHALL NOT PASS" line was originally a slogan used to express the French resolve to fight the Germans and win at the Battle of Verdun

The figure is an absolute masterpiece and a masterclass in its overall design and quality. The head sculpt is stunning and very lifelike. It looks as if Gandalf was taken straight from the Lord of the Rings movies and then shrunk down to 1/6th scale figure form. This Ian McKellen 100%. There is no doubt about that. The skin tone definitely elevates the lifelike nature of the figure. Sure, it can take a little bit of fiddling in order to get the eyes aligned properly, but it's a small issue in an otherwise phenomenal head sculpt. Gandalf is a great example of a 1/6th scale figure that utilizes rooted hair (doll hair) for both, the head and facial hair to perfection. Though, the only issue is in regards to the wizard fabric hat. It should've been magnetized at the bottom, instead of simply sitting on Gandalf's head. Perhaps, there could've been an opening inside the hat, instead of it having a flat bottom surface. The paint application is exceptional. The stitch work and tailoring for the outfit are top notch. The figure comes with a lot of accessories, which is always appreciated. I love the fact that the Glamdring (sword) is made out of actual metal. It has some nice elvish printing. The Hobbiton diorama display base compliments the overall piece rather nicely and I really like the inclusion of the moss and green leaves. The front placard is much appreciated. By the way, the photos look like HD screenshots. The earlier parts of the video were really funny when you had Gandalf interact with the other figures and statues. It definitely put a smile on my face. With that aside, thanks always Dean for another great video. I greatly appreciate the continued hard work. Keep it up!

A great & funny review. There's been a number of collectors having issues with the eyes. But in this video I can't see it as an issue. Some of your lighting really sets off the figure brilliantly. A couple of the photos actually could pass as a screenshot of Ian McKellen. Really hope Asmus making Saruman and Radagast in the crown series
Dean's photos do make the best screen savers. I use his Christoper Reese Superman for one of my a screen savers.

Agreed. All Hot Toys DX releases should've been unique characters. They started off well, but from DX 08 TO DX 19 we've had another 3 versions of Batman, another 3 Jokers and 2 Terminators, plus 3 on the spin before the latest (another Batman) have all been Darth Maul! Outside of those, the only other character was a second Jack Sparrow!
