I remember reading the early chapters, where Hajime was actually struggling to survive, he was barely getting by, he lost his arm, he had to resort to altering his own biology (which I hoped would eventually be revealed to have caused some drawbacks), and even when he could fight back it was a close thing, and it seemed like as time went on it'd never get easier for him. And I was interested, I was onboard. I wanted to see where it was going, god was I disappointed. Also, has anyone here read Dungeon Seeker, it's pretty much this story minus harem, add some horror, and is in my personal opinion much better, at least the manga, haven't read the novel.

If you read the afterword of the author, he's incredibly self-aware about what he's writing. And I'm not going to lie, reading this thing set my youthful soul ablaze. Despite being absolutely aware of what I am reading, I can't help but have fun with this series. It's kinda special that way.

Well that's good to know at least. I listened to an audiobook of it for a while because I heard it was way better than the anime. I dropped it after a while but got some enjoyment out of the earlier portions and I'm not going to begrudge anyone a so bad it's good thing even if it's not to my taste. Hell, even the author can get a pass if they're self aware about it. I enjoyed Cat Planet Cuties once I realized how much of a completely self-aware self-parody it was, so I've no room to judge anyone for finding a slightly different comedic style of the same basic idea of going so over the top that it becomes entertaining again, because that kind of comedy will always be a matter of taste.

I got into Arifureta through the manga. When Hajime gets pushed into the first dungeon there is a massive tone shift and the art changes to reflect that.
I thought "Hey is this a revenge story twist that specifically goes against the cookie cutter power fantasy harem isekai garbage? Hell yeah!". Like it was over the top edgy but I can get behind that.
But literally the second they make it out of the first dungeon (where I thought most of the series was gonna take place) they drop all of that, the tone shifts again and it just becomes like every other power fantasy harem isekai garbage.
Seriously, I could write a multi-page essay on the tone shifts alone and why the first one works and the second doesn't. Hell even the manga's artists seem to think so. There is clearly more effort in that first dungeon then anywhere else in the manga.

Tbh, I never cared for the anime or manga, I always thought that stuff was kinda shit (besides hajime in the 1st dungeon which was pretty cool.) what really got me was the LN, and WN, which I found out from ani news, and tbh, was one of my top favorite Ln I have read (sadly.) due to how it could build a world, and build character development, showing growth of interpersonal connections between hajime and the rest of the cast, and personal growth, which imma be honest: when I 1st started reading arifureta, I was expecting it to be a meh Ln, and at the beginning, it was, with most of what I stated being hard to find in earlier chapters, with most of the building, and connections occurring close to the end of the main story, and mostly in the afterstory to build out more character, with the rest of the story being mostly comic relief, and cringy one-liners, but it was when the Ln, is able to pull through, that’s when it was great, and due to that, gave me a good time, but that was rare, and it would only come once in awhile, but when it did, it was nice, as well as the subtle world building, the building of side characters, and the ability to make rational decisions, which really helped make a better foundation on a show that was founded on gags.

“Lonely Attack on a Different World” is a non-harem manga where an entire class gets isekaied, and despite the name, the main character actually does meet groups of his classmates and interact with them pretty often. Unlike 99% of these class isekais, he doesn’t get personally betrayed by the entire class and he wasn’t bullied back on Earth; he was just a loner by choice. It’s the kind of story where instead of becoming overpowered from getting one really good “cheat” skill, he survives by synergizing a a bunch of weaker skills. Since he’s not edgy or whiny, it’s a lot less infuriating when he interacts with other people. I recommend it.

The sad thing about Tio is that she's never fully developed as a character until post-game--erm, post-story where she gets her similar chapter like the other girls did. Also, Aiko/Sensei was in that town because her powers involve raising plants and that town was an agriculture town. That's why people there call her the Goddess of Harvest or something of the sort, and why the demon side wants her dead (she's the boon to human side's food logistics in the war). That's so dumb. Anyone who knows the first thing about pre-industrial military logistics (which admittedly isn't very many, but hush) knows that armies will starve if they can't steal enough food from the countryside as they pass through. Sure, it benefits the enemy too, but you can't march an army through impoverished countryside without supplies being shipped by river or rail, and it doesn't seem like this part of the world has much of either.
Also, more obvious: Maybe kidnap the harvest goddess instead of murdering her? Still evil, but more _profitably_ evil.

Then when the bunny girl was introduced there was suddenly this huge and unexpected tonal shift in the story and it turned into a massive dumpster fire... yet I couldn't stop being curious about what the show would do next and continued watching. and by the end of the first season I wanted a second season even though I was fully aware of how terrible and very rushed this show was and how overly edgy the main character is. Most notably the fact that Yue is ok with Shea joining her and Hajime, but isn't so open to allowing just anyone (read Tio/Kaori) in, that Kaori has actually been stalking Hajime since back in middle school (ever since she saw him save that old woman in the incident she mentioned early on) including dragging Shizuku around to try to find his middle school and to find what eroge he's into/has helped develop, and that the first ancient magic they find in the Orcus labirynth lets him make ORES, not magic devices. he figures that out by doing some old fashioned studying with books. When hajime falls into the abyss and gets he's hand eaten in front of him, he remains inside the cave he made for 7 days feeding only on ambrosia which kept him alive but didn't satiate his hunger. It was during that period he went through mental breakdown and only reached on a conclusion on 7th day of 'returning to his home no matter what and killing those who interfered with his goal' and loosing the last bit of humanity with that mentality.
Then he decided to eat monster meat knowing fully that it might kill him, just to satisfy his extreme hunger. That's how it all started.
The conquering of each labyrinth is in a sense a journey of returning of his human nature while finding the way home.
The reason why his goal is to return home was totally skipped in Anime which is- his mother is a shoujo mangaka and his father is president of eroge developing game company.
The 3 of them often discussed on the scenario of getting isekai'd for example having a harem of vampire bunny girl etc and always concluded on 'whoever gets isekai'd shall return home no matter what'.
All of the character in development pre summoning was skipped and the summoning event was showed in opening giving very less information Of their circumstances. They even completely removed many characters which were somewhat significant in their respective arcs like the princess which got debut in season 2's 1st episode and also skipped many events and scenes which helped in understanding the transition to Next arc.
They didn't gave any explanation of the skills, The lore, POVs of other characters Where it was necessary, And many other things such as :
they took 2 months after defeating the hydra to recover and hone their new found skills to perfection before leaving the labyrinth.
And it took around 10 days to Conquer 2nd labyrinth.
And myu was with him for almost 2-3 weeks which made him close to her and got him to becoming A father figure for her.
Season 1 literally felt collection of scenes which the author wanted to be animated.

This was because he had his future goals set which was inheriting his father's company and he even worked part time there learning various things about work and so his academic education was not much necessary and his parents would also not force him to study.
Rather this is a side story of his parents meet with aiko sensei about his behaviour during lectures but they pulled up uno reverse card and asked her if she is single, any relationship experience, if any interest in hajime etc. Cuz both became very excited after seeing "legal loli" and wanted to "collect/protect" her via hajime 😂😂

It also gave Hajime the time to actually figure out how to make his own world's technology in the isekai world and thus feels like a reward he still worked for, and thus the 2nd labyrinth taking 10 days shows that the isekai world can handle it.

TBF, Yeah, the LN REALLY does it better. The pacing is done a LOT better, and there's a LOT more characterization for all the characters, their motivations, and the REASONS for everything their doing. Also, over the volumes, it's REALLY hammered in how Hajime and Yue are in a somewhat unhealthily codependent relationship, and Yue isn't REALLY into letting others in to their relationship either. She's almost as slow in actually letting Shia into their relationship as Hajime is into it, and it's roughly half the volumes after they meet her that it's actually hinted that she'd probably be fine with HER, not anyone else actually being in a relationship with Hajime as well. Also, yeah, Tio is REALLY horny all the time, and EVERYONE is uncomfortable with it, EVERYONE. It does help with the juxtaposition when she DOES get serious, and by that point it's a surprise to everyone else that she can do that as well.
To be fair, you're not WRONG in that it's totally intended to basically be fairly well written edgy chuuni boys fantasy schlock. It just helps that the LN at least does the characterization and justifications FOR that schlock pretty well.

Plus, the premise behind it sure doesn't sound all that good when you summarize it down to it's smaller details, but when done this way it does the characters a disservice. Tio doesn't really love Hajime early on, it's mostly out of a desire for revenge that she initially goes along with him, yes it's disguised by her pervertedness. Shea fell in love with Hajime over the course of actually talking to him, rather than just two weeks of being around him like in the anime. Hajime is way more adamant about being only Yue's lover in the novel. In the novel it's revealed Remia isnt actually in love with Hajime, well not until his last two days in the city.
There are so many details that are missed when you just look at the story as a bubble. How many Isekai can say their MC actually plans on going home and can achieve it? Arifureta isn't good because it's a well thought out or engaging story, it's good because of how bad it actually is. We like that it (the novel at least) doesn't try to take itself seriously and when it does, it does it at moments when it truly needs to be serious.

This all is basically exactly on point. Arifureta was an edgy dumpster fire that was so targetedly "cool" that it was basically impossible to fail, even if (and when) it both lost all the stuff aside from the "cool"ness, as well as made the "cool" stuff look abysmally ugly. I haven't even read the LN, just the Manga (only about as far as I think the daughter fish girl joining), and I found it mediocre and vaguely "cool."
You did mention how Arifureta was possibly at least the worst adaptation of all time (or maybe you said "one of", I can't remember exactly), but there is one thing out there I am *confident* is worse adapted than Arifureta, or even the hypothetical second season of TPN. Noblesse. The full anime was.... fine, but that isn't what I mean. Noblesse: Awakening, the OVA that came before the anime, that the anime FOR *SOME* REASON decided to be set after, was the worst adaptation I've ever seen. In the span of that one thirty-minute OVA, they raced through legitimately 100 chapters of the webtoon. One. Hundred. My friend who hadn't read the webtoon who I watched it with didn't even realize that they were supposed to be vampires. It was so awful.

He's also VERY self aware about how edgy it is and Hajime is even aware of how he looks like an edgelord and is initially quite ashamed at his appearence by the end of the first novel. The fist dungeon was the best part of the novel imho. If you liked the first dungeon of this anime/novel/manga, try Dungeon Seeker. It's a whole manga of that ... to the extent that the Arifureta author successfully sued the Dungeon Seeker author. It's edge to edge edgy, more edge than you can edge an edge full of edge at. It scratches that itch to completion. Even after getting sued, the Dungeon Seeker guy finished the story (only feels a bit rushed) and didn't leave us hanging.
Arifureta does eventually have good simple world building, but ya gotta squint past a lot to get there.

He pretty much became god and went on fun antics after that and from what i'm hearing all of the stuff i enjoyed from the Labyrinth has been cut from the manga. Why? It was probably the coolest part. The fun antics only hold up so long and i can't take any of it seriously if he just has new powers pulled from his ass with no setup.

I will say this: After watching the first season in it's entirety the animation quality, especially the 3D monsters, improved drastically in the second season. Its literally night and day but we obviously haven't seen everything yet. I still hate the 3D BS the animators seem dead set on unnecessarily injecting into everything but the they're palatable in the second season rather than whatever the hell they did in the first.
Story is still hot garbage and horny as hell but as a trash connoisseur I will continue to watch unrepentantly because its just comfort food for the eyes and the brain, like a hamburger and fries.
Regarding the classmate he executed in the first season. He didn't kill him because he's a merciless, edgy try-hard. He executed him because he's a merciless, edgy try-hard who knew his corrupted classmate wasn't sincerely asking for mercy and would simply try to kill their teacher again the moment he left. It's fairly obvious he has no sympathy or mercy to give to liars, betrayers or any of their ilk which to his credit is an actual character trait despite his power fantasy type character. It certainly makes him less bland than someone like Kirito although that's not setting the bar particularly high.

    • @theglitchcounter264
      @theglitchcounter264 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I’d like to add that his reason to kill his classmate in the first season was actually a badass antihero (I think antihero is the right term) move. He refused to save his classmate because he doesn’t want to leave enemies that will cause problems later, which you said. BUT he kills him himself in that edgy act to take credit for the students death, that is, so that his teacher didn’t blame herself for her students death (considering he was corrupted under her care, and died for failing to kill her). Even though she really wasn’t responsible in the first place, he prevented her from experiencing the usual self hatred arc that comes from this.
In regard to the 3D animation, they had to , to fit the time constraint they were put under. =P (even though that was already stated in the video)

@@theglitchcounter264 I want to see it's opening with "I Am All of Me" in the background.

I mean the dude DID lead an army to attack innocent people with, I don't think hajime thinking of murdering the dude is exactly unwarranted. Could have jsut imprisoned the dude but I can see the sense in it, though the fact he can do it to a classmate is kinda spooky.

I think the funniest part about Hajime's weapons and powers is that he based them off of his favorite manga

the fact is that if a story like solo levelling gets an adaptation like this then it would be shit as well
if arifureta had gotten an amazing adaptation then who knows how much we would likee it

Don't expect it to be good since Solo Levelling is mediocre and nothing new when it comes to bringing stuff to the table.

@@flipkiller8521 the story is mediocre but the art is just amazing which makes solo levelling a really good and entertaining read
if the anime can does a good job showing that then it will be realy good
