- The Washington Wizards defeated the Atlanta Hawks, 94-86. Second overall pick Alex Sarr totaled 12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks in his debut. First overall pick Zaccharie Risacher led the Hawks with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 3PM. The Wizards improve to 1-0 in the NBA 2K25 Summer League, while the Hawks fall to 0-1.

@@_ben_miller if he does this in preseason, in October, I'd say they got the right guy. He's up against mid level pros here at best. Not NBA guys but like G League or D2 Europe. Next week it's a better look.
I see one of two players in him:
1. Lamarcus Aldridge. He's got that kind of game right now. He's definitely not a stretch athletically. A true PF with a 3 pointer.
2. Kwame Brown. He's going up about as many levels as you can in competition at once. That's a massive adjustment. The NBL is horrible.
It's like being drafted out of a small HS and going straight to the MLB overnight. He's got a LOT of development ahead of him. Washington is usually very patient. He's in the right place.

It's basically on another planet geographically, it's not a high pay league, and it's mostly used to develop CBA(China) and Euro prospects. Bogut and Longley are the only reason the league has merit, as nobody else has ever been successful from there. Sarr could be the first one.
I'm not against the guy. I know the scout who convinced his gm to take Ben Simmons. I warned him to look again. I fear the same from Sarr. He's lazy. You can see it on this tape. He's not trying hard enough and he's not good enough to do it on just skillset. He needs to take coaching.
Generally, a guy that raw doesn't work out. I'm not he saying he'll bust, but a lot of people were relieved when he went at 2 because that meant they didn't have to take him. If WAS didn't get him, he might have dropped out of the top 5. His star faded at the combine.

He's got a lot of upside. A 2 way guy. Has nice handles for the size. Has the shot. If he develops the passing, he's a future perennial All Star. Sarr looked lost outside the paint and on defense. You got the right guy.
I'm a tape reviewer for 3 NBA scouts. Zach was 3 on my board. 1 was Edey, 2 was Castle. He's got a very high ceiling if developed properly. A better Josh Smith/Howard. A solid 2/3 option.
Yeah both looking damn good especially for being rookies but the ultimate test for all these kids is what it’ll look like in actual NBA games and that defense/offense.
It's crazy that Sarr told Atlanta that he didn't want them to draft him because he wanted to go to the Wizards instead. Not that the Hawks are a great team, but they're much better than the Wizards and Atlanta also has much nicer weather than Washington D.C.
Atlanta understood he's raw and would need time building himself up. Compiling that with the depth Atlanta has at the 4 and 5, Sarr wasn't going to start most likely.
They are 2 fundamentally sound ball players. If they get the ball enough in this upcoming season they will do very well. They understand the game and every little thing stands out for the both of them👍🏾👍🏾

I think people automatically assumed that this draft was weak because the top 2 guys are Euros, but they both look nice. Also Reed Sheppard is looking extremely promising too. This might actually be a really strong draft class when all is said and done.

Sarr and his representatives did not want to play in Atlanta. Also the “weak draft” argument would have been used by other teams had the Hawks drafted him anyway only to be coerced into trading him to another team. Teams would have been offering them garbage. The Hawks drafted the right player. He will bust only if the league wants him to bust the way they wanted to keep Trae down since mid 2021 after the Hawks advanced to the ECF.
Why draft someone who doesn’t want to play and whose camp would force a trade? Sounds like he’d rather ruin his own stock before he would even play with Atlanta. I think he’s really a bust.
