Love the Friendship Onion! Don’t usually listen to many podcasts but I really appreciate the depth and eclectic vibes of conversations with Dom and Billy
Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd. We have them and we have Ian McKellen and Patrick Stuart. We have Dame Maggie Smith and Dame Judi Dench We have been gifted with some of great friendships on the screen and stage.
Tom is such a brilliant interviewer. He asks intelligent questions, and is able to elicit such honest and profound answers from his guests. He manages to create an atmosphere of safety and comfort where his guests naturally WANT to share, because they know the host genuinely wants to listen. This program is a treasure, and we have Tom to thank for that!
On the notion of live theater going extinct - There's something magical about going to a theater that you just don't get from a movie in the cinema. I remember my grandmother taking me to watch 'The Nutcracker' when I was a child and how fantastic it was. I think it boils down to how close you are to what is happening on the stage. It feels like you're an active participant and that anything can happen at any moment because you're watching it play out live in front of you. The experience is a shared one with you participating almost as much as the actors on the stage and you all, like Monaghan said, agreed to suspend your sense of disbelief or realism to enjoy the experience together. It's truly a remarkable thing.
I saw you guys last night! Third row. AMAZING performance. A fan for over 20 years, it was wonderful to see you both in your element in person. My sister in law was up from Newfoundland and we had just the best night. Well done, boys!
Yesterday(Thursday) I was in the car heading to town and turned on the radio to a random station only to recognize Dom's voice and find this wonderful interview/podcast with both Billy and Dom!!. I was so excited, these guys are fantastic together ❤️. Ofcourse I am a huge LOTR geek. Very insightful conversation to listen to overall ☺️👏🧝♂️.
Man, I wish there was a recording of that show. I'd sure love to see it. It's been one of my favorites since the 80's, and Dom and Billy are so perfect for it.
I got to see the Neptune production of Rosencrantz & Guldenstern, and I feel pretty fortunate to have been able to see it. Mr Monaghan & Mr Boyd were amazing. I don't know if there's any tickets left in Toronto, but if there are, I'd recommend people going to see it.
Funny enough, I've never read or seen Hamlet, but I have watched the film Rosencrantz & Guildenstern multiple times. I love that movie, and I knew enough about Hamlet through cultural osmosis to get the gist of things. I'd love to see you guys in a new film adaptation.
I was at the Halifax show!!! Such an incredible experience! I got a shirt and a special Coin that they had. I bought every piece of merchandise I could 🤣But once again the show was fantastic!!!
Came out with a group to see the pre-opening show on Thursday, Feb 1 and it was amazing! We found out the Saturday and Sunday shows were cancelled due to the storm, felt so lucky to have seen the show! *Especially since two in our group flew out from BC just to see the show - they also got to see what a Nor'easter is all about.
Agreed.Even though live actors are doing the same script over and over, they are still "creating" the show experience each time. You can feel it that and each show is slightly different, which keeps it exciting.
Does anyone know when Dom and Billy Eat the World is coming out? Not heard anything about release dates yet etc. Really miss the Friendship Onion podcast as well!! Love Dom and Billy, met them at comic con Liverpool back in May along with Elijah, Sean and Orlando, really nice guys!!
How can you talk about death and not mention Gandalf's speech to Pippin on Death, possibly the the best scene in the film. Tolkien believed in life after death and so do I but not mentioning that scene in the film during this conversation was a missed opportunity.
Relax Dom, there is zero reason to believe there is any "final judgement". Just be a good person, so if there is any judgement in the end, if the judge is rational and just you'll be ok. ( Yes, I know, that rules out all gods of known mythology/religion).

Friendship Onion will just stay dead forever? Kind of weird how they just left it behind without ever even adressing it.. :/

Fantastic interview ! I appreciate that Tom Powers actually does his homework -ie he read up on the play.
Love these two, such charismatic and interesting people but thank you so much for this show and the wise and engaging interviewing!

The first time a watch Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are dead about 8 years ago I couldn’t stop thinking how good a merry and pippin version would be

What happened to the friendship onion podcast? Is it coming back?
Nova Scotia is general is awesome. Haven’t been n years.
If you said to Tolkien that the Bible was fiction, he would've punched Dominic in the face.
Yeah, he wouldn’t have like that too much
More like wrote a 4 page essay on why it is not. With the help of CS Lewis
Tolkien was a devout catholic so he clearly believed the Bible was true🤷♀️
Thats charlie he played bass for drive shaft
Love that Dom called the Bible fiction. Just because not wrong.
