    This is the best video I have seen on how to create a proper paper pattern in order to make a properly fitting fabric face mast with filter pocket! I am not a seamstress nor an engineer! You have made the process so simple to follow! You are a true blessing! Thank you!!

    While this tutorial does seem more complicated than other face mask tutorials I've seen, I like that it is the 3D shape, and looks like it allows enough space for a filter to be placed in (other 3D mask tutorials I've seen look like there's limited space to put a filter in as the upper nose piece always has a horizontal seam that would get in the way) and has a nose bridge wire as well. Thank you for putting a non-bias tape version as well! That seems more manageable than the bias-tape version although that version does look very polished! I wish you had included a photo or video of you wearing it! My main gripe with many mask tutorials is that they don't stay in place when you open your mouth and start sliding down your nose. I may give this tutorial a try!

Also, using the HEAD of the needle going down, brilliant reminder!! I have made my pattern and am going to cut and sew now. Your video tutorial is very well done, I have watched it many times. You make it look really easy. I really like your mask pattern the way it goes under the chin but I agree with another comment that it would have been nice to see it modeled by someone wearing it. I have yet to try making the pattern. But one question I have is that you have links to two different pattern sizes, assuming one is a child's size. In your video you show the sizes to cut the rectangles of material (30cmx13cm & 20cm x 13cm) for cutting the pattern out. If you are using the smaller (child's) size pattern what size are you cutting the rectangles to cut the pattern pieces out of? I hope my question makes sense. Thanks

    • @JSdaily
      @JSdaily  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the small size, 24cmx13cm, 20cmx13cm is the size of the fabric. When making a bias, refer to the video to exclude the top and bottom seam allowance.

    • @JSdaily
      @JSdaily  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi
      There is no problem with 80% of the child's size, but measuring the length from ear to ear is the width of the mask.
      The length from the center of the nose to the chin is height.
      Hope it helps.

    I don't understand what's the difference between with and without bias?

    • @glencoco2499
      @glencoco2499 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bias is the diagonal construction of a piece. Here, bias refers to the bias tape they used to hem the edges of the mask :)

    • @seonaelizabethcoster8465
      @seonaelizabethcoster8465 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's just a different way to finish the piece. If you use bias binding, whether you make yours as js daily did or buy premade stuff, you can sew the different layers as they will be in the end (right side facing out, wrong sides together), because the binding closes up all the raw edges and tidys things. If you don't use binding, you sew the mask layers inside out, and then have to turn it right way round, and that keeps things all tidy.
      Hope that helps.

    I need help with the measurements that are printed out on the Small size (women or children) pattern I printed out. I do not have an option in my printer settings for print "Actual Size" and what I've printed out does not measure the same in all spots as what is handwritten on the pattern. I've tried different options that are given when printing the pdf pattern itself, under More Settings > Scale > the options are Default, or Fit to Printable Area, or Custom. I have already tried the Default option and then tried the Custom option set to 100 there and neither one of them have the same measurments you have handwritten on your pattern once it's printed out when I measure the printed pattern myself. The measurement you have handwritten for 8 cm right up against the fold line in the center of the face mask portion (between the two arrows running up and down) ... is that the correct measurement? If I print it out using the Default setting under Scale I get 8.5 cm and if I print it out using the Custom 100 setting I get 7.5 cm. Can anyone help me please? Thank you so very much :)

      UPDATE: JSdaily I finally was able to print out this Small pdf pattern in the correct size, since you told me it should be 7 cm (not 8 cm as handwritten on the pdf pattern here) from chin to top (right before it cuts off to the left for the nose angle cut). Since my printer does not have any "Actual Size" option, using Windows 10 print feature screen under More Settings > Scale I chose the Fit to Paper option and now all sizes / cms printed out correctly on the pattern. YAY!!! Now, time to get sewing. Thank you again for your help and these wonderful patterns and tutorials you offer to us. You're a very special and kind person!!!

    Great pattern, my friend tried it first after trying several others, she found this had the best fit. I've just made one and the fit is good and still breathable too. If anyone wants an even better seal and closer fit, I'd recommend a extra piece of adjustable wide elastic that attaches on to the two ear loops and rests on the upper back of your head. Not sure if I'm explaining it well but google 'The Cambridge Mask company head strap' for photos of something similar, looks naff but makes a huge difference to othe fit. Thank you for sharing this!

    Thanks for sharing. The pattern I printed out was not to scale. I deactivated "autofit" but it still the wrong size. May I ask what size paper do you use? A4 or Letter?

      Just print with the original size set.

      For the woman/child size, I could not get it to print to scale until I used "custom" at 107%, using letter sized paper.

    What part of the pattern can I adjust to fit a person with a higher ridge and longer nose? And for someone with higher and wider cheekbones? Thank you for any suggestions.

    • @JSdaily
      @JSdaily  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi.
      If you want a high nose and mask size, make the pattern enlarged by 20%.
      And you can give the upper nose more angles.
      Hope it helps.
      Thank you.

    Thanks for the video. Can someone here tell me how to convert the measurements into eighths of an inch? For example, the first measurement, 6.88? Do you simply round it up to 7" or is there a formula I can use to figure out all the measurements given that aren't in eighths? I've always been terrible at math.

    since the mask is not hermetic i'm wondering what the filter brings.... is it important to have one? where do you get them? do you need them to have a specific classification?
    my concern is since it still let some air go on the side is it necessary or good to have filters, N95 or not....
    thank you so much!

    • @JSdaily

      Here in the USA, there was a website that a pediatrician said virus can go easy thru fabric. And she used the filter brand from Feltrete by 3M that has 2200 because it catches virus. Basically , the filter is use for the furnace. But to used it for mask, you have to take it apart and cut it. Just make sure when you do it, the space is clean.
