I know your influences and I have to say, I have learned more from your videos than I did from very expensive courses. After I discovered your tutorials, I've never spent another $ on tute!! Thank you, you are a great teacher and artist!!
Beautiful 😊 you are so generous to share how you go about everything in watercolor, from how to keep going when you become unmotivated and disappointed, to improving from one art piece to another. I live in Asia and I see your lessons/retreat abroad. If only I can gp! 😅❤ thanks a lot and i hope you don’t get tired of sharing ❤
Matthew, thanks for an informative video and painting demonstration. Good to see how you approach the initial, middle and final washes while using a limited palette.
A super tutorial video. This really nailed the whole thing about "value vs colour". Thank you, Matthew White. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
When it comes to brushes, simplify your life. Grab the Escoda Red set travel brushes if you're starting out but getting real serious. Very versatile and top quality. Hey Matt, what colors would you say you cant live without? I ask, because you introduced me to quinacridone gold...and I swear by it now.
Thank you so much for posting these wonderful watercolor tutorials. They are not only fun to watch but also are highly educational for people like me who want to learn watercolor painting. Watching this tutorial, a couple of questions came to mind. First, is your watercolor board flat or is it tilted? Second, how much water are you applying to both sides of your paper, and do you let it dry a little bit before you start painting? I am finding that my paint runs down the paper really fast and I lose total control. May be I have too much water on my paper and may be my paint may be too thin. I am trying to figure out how to have a better control.
This is a very interesting mix of colours. For people who prefer to avoid using real cobalt watercolours, do you think Daniel Smith's Amazonite could replace the green well? ( Holbein have a cobalt blue hue that might replace the blue)
I love this and you’re very good at teaching clearly and simplifying steps. My biggest issue right now is drawing cars In perspective. Since it looks like you modified the composition using the photo for a loose reference, I cannot trace it 😅…and my drawing of the cars makes the whole painting look crappy (no matter how good the watercolor portion is). Any tips for drawing cars? I know this is a watercolor tutorial but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask anyway. Thank you!
For a round brush with a great point try the Escoda Versatil which is very popular with many artists including pro's and is a synthetic sable of great quality and a very affordable price. The mop brush, try a Da Vinci Casaneo for a synthetic one or an Escoda Ultimo, both are very good but the latter is better. I hope this this helps.
Great video, very informative. Question- do you always use fresh tube paints? When using your large pallet, do you let the paint dry and just wet it before painting?
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get such even brush texture/paper texture like you consistently have. Your colors always lay so evenly on the surface. Maybe the amount of water?

Cool. Stan Miller has a video where he does a simple portrait using values and not colors. It’s very helpful
Great lessons! I can see how the different values compliment each other and makes the whole painting stand out.
This is a wonderful tutorial. Thanks a bunch!!!
I like... watercolor details.i love this.
I loved this. Worth a try.
Magic!

Can you plz mention the brand and number of the used brushes ….. which is a round brush with a good point ?

@@davidmolloy126 thank you !
Escoda perla size 12.
@@learntopaintwatercolor thank you ! Keep up the good work !
The brushes he uses are linked underneath the video.
I love this! Very useful. May I ask about the paper you used in the video?
Saunders Waterford. 140lb Cold press
what paper are you using that you don't need to tape it down and it doesn't buckle.
did you paint this using arches?? I don't think my papers would let me play with the colours so much

Water but also using the biggest brush possible because it can hold a lot of paint.
I signed up for the 7 secrets video but never received the link email. It didn’t go to my junk folder either.
Very nice. I mist the video of today. Can I have it back
