    Easy enough to let oil gravity feed down from the engine end of the cable rather than forcing oil up the cable by force.

    Hi, were you satisfied with the result? What was the driving feeling after the job? I mean, when I disconnect my cable from one or both ends it looks very smooth, but it become sticky again as I put it back in place. Pedal and tb are OK. So I am wondering if you found this trick useful even after reconnecting the cable in its place.
    Thank you!

    Would not it be easier to do it from other side the cable?

      I took out the pedal to check for the cause of stickiness, so cable already off at that end. Also oil pushed into engine end instead of onto carpet.

      Mecha Tron yeah, that's how I loosed off my cable. Used gravity as cable comes off at the engine really easily. Fitted a little plastic cap to the cable end. Used epoxy resin to attach cap to flat surface at the cable end. Over the course of a day I kept topping up the oil as it seeped down the cable. Cut cap off once the cable was moving freely

    I've ordered a new oem cable from rimmerbros, it turned out it's 5cm shorter than the one I have on when I tryied to mount it... The real problem is the cable route, silly too long and twisty...

      It is long, that’s true. Not much choice unless they do ‘fly by wire’. P.S. now on facebook as well facebook.com/comeinhandynow

    Great video, thanks for sharing. This might not be the place to ask this. I have a 1997 MGF but need to replace my gear change cables both the long and short have you had to replace yours? If so how easy are they to do?
    Many thanks

    A syringe is a pretty cheap way of doing it. Spray wd40 in a glass, some teflon tape wrapped around the syringe and cable and lube away

      Also I tend not to use engine oil as it gunks up over time with dust

      @comeinhandynow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can’t push it through with so much pressure though. wd40 also is very thin and evaporates quickly. If it works for you though go for it.

    oops, my bad. I thought it's a DIY. With that oil pressuring device, i think thats the level of workshop, not DIY. Anyway, good job

      I don’t own a workshop, so it was my DIY.

    Seems like a lot of work to fix... but if it works for you, great!

      Also quite a lot of work to change the cable fro a new one and of course more money.

    And if you don't have this stuff by the time you buy it you're as well getting new cable

    So much easier to just change the cable if you're willing to go through this much trouble!

      That could be true, but I like fixing stuff and doing it without cost especially. Maybe I'm weird like that!

      More fulfilling to mend it than join in the "throw away society". I'm gonna try it from the other end though,much less faffing about. Nice tip though.

      Oooooorrr you can save the money, spend 0 dollars and lubricate it........... Why would you watch an instructional video on how to lube a throttle cable, if you are gonna replace yours,or recommend replacing to others? Just to be a confrontational dbag or what?

      No, I didn’t know that. Put in a name or link if you have one handy. Ta.

    Surely I can just squirt some WD40 in there?

    • @comeinhandynow
      @comeinhandynow  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I tried that first. The trouble is that it is a long cable, so to get the oil in it has to be forced through with pressure.

      It’s all about choice. Personally I like fixing things. Everyone is “throw it away if it’s broken” nowadays.
