Dino Synchron player here, I was amazed with my performance using the dino hybrid. Went 6-0 in swiss and eventually lose in the finals to the winner. The idea of the synchron package was to create stronger boards than regular dino while the dino cards allowed me to break boards going 2nd better. The 2 engines worked well together junk synchron provides recovery during long games. As for salamangreat, i feel it is in an alright place rn and is pretty fair and overall the tourney was an enjoyable experience. Looking forward for the next round. (Sadge the duels where I popped off weren’t featured lol)
It looked really good playing against it I mean 2 of my 3 losses were against it and I think the only reason our top 8 match wasn’t featured because they didn’t what to show you vs salad twice

At this point that’s all it has in the actual TCG when compared to top decks and it still holds it’s own. Like I told my locals, salad fans are few and far between but we are superbly stubborn.

Feels like the biggest problem with Salamangreats is the fact that it's a link deck. If your opponent negates your guy, you just link summon for another guy that does a different thing that could also be threatening, then recycle the thing that got negated for next turn. In a format where most negates don't destroy and there are minimal hand traps to interact with your opponent on their turn, it's hard to stop a deck like that.

Effect destruction was in fact so popular before the pendulum era that the towers epidemic forced decks to search for non-target non-destruction removal, wich was so rare at the time people were running the mirror force that shuffles to counter Chaos Max dragon of all things

If he releases Burning Abyss in the next set, Cicada King is gonna get a LOT of mileage. Its my go-to negate in that deck outside of Dinomorphia Rexterm (setting up Asura King is way too inconsistent).
I love all the super weird non-archetype stuff, that Hero deck looks fucking rad and I have no idea what that Subterror deck was doing but it looked kinda cool. Love all the creativity at play here even in a small card pool
If they’re not already up for consideration, I’d like to throw my hat in the ring and suggest the Trap-Monsters that aren’t the Paleos. I think Rotation is the only place they’d ever get a chance to do something, due to the nature of being traps first, and monsters second. Cards like Apophis the Swamp Deity, Angel Statue Azerune, the Tiki duo, and Statue of Anguish Pattern are all pretty terrible in TCG/OCG, but I think they have a home in Rotation. Heck even Quantum Cat, Mimesis Elephant, and Swamp Mirrorer can commit shenanigans, like triggering the second half of Ultimate Divine Beast or opening your extra deck to type/attribute specific toolbox monsters.

I think the green screen is sick but i would love if joseph was positioned somewhere else, or slightly smaller. i have to read so many cards in this format, and i just cant learn what Beta Evolution whatever the fuck does with commentator cam where it is
I wish these videos were more substantial. I'm super interested in alt format stuff, but I don't really have time to play it myself. These videos that just highlight a few duels feel more like a teaser to get people to play the format rather than coverage of the actual format. Love the idea of rotation, just wish I could sink my teeth in a little more through your videos.

Will say I'm very happy that the presentation/format for this episode feels a lot better/more satisfying than last time. But as an old trinity-head I feel like this time the comment, ignoring the obvious "har har Link Archetype too strong" comments kinda explained my sentiment of curiosity but lack of excitement. Your proposition of rotation is cool and interesting but from the get-go you decided to start with a power level that works to convey multiple archetypes in a pace similar to modern YGO, which should be good but the issue is "similar to modern YGO". Outside of the introduction of turns 4+ (brilliant concept), I don't feel any particular push to play this over regular TCG. It's a fantastic thought experiment with my full support but I feel is lacking some of the bolder personal identity that could push it into being really exciting. Hope this feedback is in any way useful.
The fact that MBT is still surprised that Salad continues one of if not the best deck is uh... yeah what'd you expect. Honestly a turn of event that many were calling even after rage got hit.
What good link deck would you consider a better "starter Archetype" over salad? Cuz honestly I feel like nearly every decent link deck has the same resource loop, unless you purposely neuter them for the entire format.

Simple, effective and would be strong for this type of format without feeling like it's always going to out grind you or set up an obnoxious board (by set rotation standards). You could even splurge a bit by giving it Cynet mining, Code Generator, Code Radiator, Decode Talker extended and Shooting Code Talker.
Getting rid of Gazelle has been the only way I can find to balance the deck in casual formats. It makes you rely on cards like Salamangreat Gift + Falco instead and forces you to run more copies of the traps.
@@absolutionveil8632 Pure Gouki or Tenyi for me. Pure Gouki has a lot of super unique link monsters only they can access. The problem is when generic ED monsters outshine them. Tenyi is similar and they would have had a good synergy with normal-pendulum.
@@haruhirogrimgar6047 Tenyi has been introduced(though only the lv4 ones) and while I basically pet deck pure Tenyi on MD and real life, I feel like at full power it outshines Salad. Not that it would probably ever be at full power though. Gouki I can also maybe see, though it would have to be as neutered as Salad currently is, cuz that deck was legitimately wild irl for a good bit.
I can't tell if Salad is really the 5th best deck or if people are coping on their pet decks. That top 8 conversion rate is really high and the win was convincing so I'm guessing it's at least a bit of cope.
Deck will just play any strong generic staples and rank 3/4 that is released and outgrind everything. God forbid they add more link archetypes that can mix with it. Same thing happened in Duel Links.
Salad was released at almost full power in this format, banning Rage was ok but the real issue here is either Gazelle or Sunlight Wolf, those two enable the entire resource loop to form and give the deck such an insane amount of recovery it's almost unfair. So, either limit sunlight wolf so that the deck has a real bottleneck or do something with Gazelle so that getting to wolf is harder, either way the deck will be more bearable.
I've watched 500+ hours of Yugioh content thanks to your channel and the usual suspects, and have never played a single game. Rotation Yugioh is rad af. Thank you for all the content, please keep it up!
Only now catching up on the series and I think it's overall been a success. Decks seem diverse interesting and very "modern" yugioh while actually running more than 3 turns.
Oh NO. after picking up Duel Links and getting a Destiny Hero kit running... I actually understand what most of these interactions are in the earlier rounds... I think I've ascended slightly
This looks like a great format, but I don't see why this should exist in tandem to modern YGO when both play pretty similarly. I thought the whole point of Rotation was to significantly curb the overall play quantity, but this looks just as hard for newer players to play while not entirely being that much more complex than the unlimited format.
If you want to test to see if the format is slow enough, play against a nonarchtypal trap monster deck. This means you cant use trap monsters from the golden land, or those that were shoved into an archetpe luck the rusty equipment.
Almost fell asleep to the dark magician duel, but I loved the other decks. The infinite resource loop of salamangreat is probably the best part of the deck, I can believe how competent it looks even without Miragestallio and Rage.
I know we live in the age of short attention spans, but the speed and lack of explanation in each of these replay-watching videos make them pretty unwatchable for me :(
I agree, it's one thing in ten minute testing where it's usually a deck he just did a deck profile on vs a meta relevant deck most people should be at least vaguely familiar with but here you get Joseph going "activating the effect of scrimblo shmungulus to pop the glup shitto, triggering its graveyard effect to summon bingo bango bongo from deck" at 100 mph and the only way to make sense of what's happening is to pause the video every 5 seconds to look up 3 different cards on yugipedia

i was skeptical about this format at first (The idea of a core set being always legal, instead of just, a group of frequently reprinted cards kinda miffed me in a bad way, felt like it defeated the point of rotating sht) but damn, this was some of the coolest yugioh ive seen in ages
@@geek593 Yeah the current format without rotation is just the better option. Just a more harsh banlist. Rotation proves that its just not feasible as it will always devolve into just being what we have now but worse and there is still a need to ban something every release.

I know its more work, but please consider changing the core set to be focused on non-archetypal cards that fill out deck slots, and let the rotating sets bring archetypes. if your format has several archetypes on day one that it has on its last day then its not going to feel like rotation to a lot of people. also if the core set is mostly fitting cards, then the power level of different rotations can change. As it is now, you have already cut yourself off from every archetype weaker than the core set ones, which limits your design space.
The problem is, this leaves very little room for reasonable deck building before the rotating sets get made (which is why MBT made it all with archetypes to begin with sicne he didn't immediately introduce a rotating set alongside the core) Also, MBT doesn't really like catering to Yugiboomers in any way shape or form

ok so this format IS sweet but salad was a mistake to put in imo. Not sure what other link decks would have been appropriate though. Maybe evil twin's first wave of support? Probably would have even been a similar build tbh just way less crazy in the grind game. Of course I also understand that salad is way more recognizable than evil twin and a lot of people are shockingly nostalgic for that format.
I wonder if, with the "rotation format", MBT will get a "so..... that's how it feels like?" moment, when he realizes he has to somehow release cardpool that is somehow nostalgic, appeals to anime watchers, works on sealed environment, and can be meta, without breaking the current format too much. And realizes that konami also has these troubles, that kinda explains why they usually do the things like they do And proceeds to think "I will prove that i am better than the konami staff at their own game"
to be fair we haven't even hit the rotation part yet, just the "slowly release card that feel appropriate to the intended power level to slow down power creep" part. And we already seen this happen in Duel Links, where yes you play slow methodical trap instead of just making wombo combo, but deck with 2017 cards dominate deck with 2008 cards.
@@luminous3558 the 1st problem was trying to put Salamangreat of all things as the Link Era / VRAINS era representative. The 2nd was trying to be "too original", instead of sticking to the character Decks (Like making Beetrooper the Weevil Deck instead of trying Weevil's actual Deck)

Before anyone complains, I would like to say as a rotation player that no salad is not broken. It is a meta deck yes but it is not tier zero and it can be beat. Trust me I know it looks bad but I doubt salad will win again.

This is ONE Salad deck in top 16. It's not breaking the the meta. Calm down. Like yeah maybe Foxy OR Gazelle shouldn't exist (maybe replace with Falco or some other extender) to reduce power a tiny bit, but it's really not that bad.

I would have appreciated if you spent a little more time talking about the different decks that were played in the tournament aside from half a second you showed them for at 0:32. It would have been more interesting than just "watch this salad game".
The problem you have is you will always see salamangreats. It's mostly because you have it at fully power. With the easy special summons and being able to link climb and the only deck that can link into the same link easy. You will always see it in some way.

I think world chalice wasn't chosen just because the mirror for it is so miserable. Not to mention Avramax can kind of solo most of the format.
Someone did ask about World Chalive their response was that its a low powered link deck that spends a long time comboing off to do nothing

I know we live in the age of short attention spans, but the speed and lack of explanation in each of these replay-watching videos make them pretty unwatchable for me :(
I agree, it's one thing in ten minute testing where it's usually a deck he just did a deck profile on vs a meta relevant deck most people should be at least vaguely familiar with but here you get Joseph going "activating the effect of scrimblo shmungulus to pop the glup shitto, triggering its graveyard effect to summon bingo bango bongo from deck" at 100 mph and the only way to make sense of what's happening is to pause the video every 5 seconds to look up 3 different cards on yugipedia

i was skeptical about this format at first (The idea of a core set being always legal, instead of just, a group of frequently reprinted cards kinda miffed me in a bad way, felt like it defeated the point of rotating sht) but damn, this was some of the coolest yugioh ive seen in ages

I think smogon is better than rotation.
Smogon is impossible with well over ten thousand cards. It would be a logistics nightmare. A blanket ban with curated releases is better.
@@geek593 Yeah the current format without rotation is just the better option. Just a more harsh banlist. Rotation proves that its just not feasible as it will always devolve into just being what we have now but worse and there is still a need to ban something every release.

You all doomsaying yugioh never gets new players, in reality its growing like mad dog in asia and in my country, sure dude.
I know its more work, but please consider changing the core set to be focused on non-archetypal cards that fill out deck slots, and let the rotating sets bring archetypes. if your format has several archetypes on day one that it has on its last day then its not going to feel like rotation to a lot of people. also if the core set is mostly fitting cards, then the power level of different rotations can change. As it is now, you have already cut yourself off from every archetype weaker than the core set ones, which limits your design space.
The problem is, this leaves very little room for reasonable deck building before the rotating sets get made (which is why MBT made it all with archetypes to begin with sicne he didn't immediately introduce a rotating set alongside the core)
Also, MBT doesn't really like catering to Yugiboomers in any way shape or form
@@kichiroumitsurugi4363 I don't really see what it has to do with yugi-boomers. And we are past core set only format, so I don't think that is super relevant anymore. When this stuff rotates we get the first set of the next rotation right away, no?

ok so this format IS sweet but salad was a mistake to put in imo. Not sure what other link decks would have been appropriate though. Maybe evil twin's first wave of support? Probably would have even been a similar build tbh just way less crazy in the grind game. Of course I also understand that salad is way more recognizable than evil twin and a lot of people are shockingly nostalgic for that format.
I wonder if, with the "rotation format", MBT will get a "so..... that's how it feels like?" moment, when he realizes he has to somehow release cardpool that is somehow nostalgic, appeals to anime watchers, works on sealed environment, and can be meta, without breaking the current format too much.
And realizes that konami also has these troubles, that kinda explains why they usually do the things like they do
And proceeds to think "I will prove that i am better than the konami staff at their own game"
to be fair we haven't even hit the rotation part yet, just the "slowly release card that feel appropriate to the intended power level to slow down power creep" part. And we already seen this happen in Duel Links, where yes you play slow methodical trap instead of just making wombo combo, but deck with 2017 cards dominate deck with 2008 cards.
Well he certainly won't admit that he has wrong about rotation being good even if its already falling apart.
@@luminous3558 the 1st problem was trying to put Salamangreat of all things as the Link Era / VRAINS era representative.
The 2nd was trying to be "too original", instead of sticking to the character Decks (Like making Beetrooper the Weevil Deck instead of trying Weevil's actual Deck)

Before anyone complains, I would like to say as a rotation player that no salad is not broken. It is a meta deck yes but it is not tier zero and it can be beat. Trust me I know it looks bad but I doubt salad will win again.

Well it shouldn't matter long term anyway. There's been a base set and a few expansions. Now's where the rotation is supposed to come in and balance the format by pushing out some tired archetypes.

This is ONE Salad deck in top 16. It's not breaking the the meta. Calm down. Like yeah maybe Foxy OR Gazelle shouldn't exist (maybe replace with Falco or some other extender) to reduce power a tiny bit, but it's really not that bad.

The problem you have is you will always see salamangreats. It's mostly because you have it at fully power. With the easy special summons and being able to link climb and the only deck that can link into the same link easy. You will always see it in some way.
No rage, roar, falco, or will. Definitely not full power. It's arguably weaker than year 1 salad since that had the above cards.
