Pure genius, whose work is still relevant to this day. Great Expectations is such a great, heartbreaking at times, novel.

Charles Dickens was able to express the London of his times so perfectly. I particularly love his early works, such as 'A Visit to Newgate Prison', and 'Gin Shops'. Dickens always managed to paint a precise and colourful picture of his surroundings, and most able in presenting to the reader an uncanny accuracy when exploiting the meaningful, and sometimes non-meaningful chit-chat that came from the mouths of his players.

I too love A Visit to Newgate Prison!! His ability to create imagery in your head like a movie screen projection with only minimal words is astounding! He is by far one of the best writers of all time. He will make you laugh, cry, feel shame for your own misgivings and then cry and laugh again! I also love David Copperfield and some of the Pickwick Papers!

t mac oh yes. Eek. I see now re reading this not a good choice of descriptive wording. Um, I mean that Mr Dickens does not use complex wording as if writing for highly intelligent academia. He writes clear, concise and easy to follow sentences that allow his mass and sometimes overwhelming use of them to still convey the plot and characters with ease. Sorry. I need to stay off TH-cam so late.

I once read and watched one of his works, Oliver Twist. It truly depicts a traumatized life. What a poor boy.

If you liked that you should try David Copperfield. It is also sad. but funny. Its more autobiographical and was his favorite of all his works.

No doubt Dickens had a problem with this mother becasue she forced him to work as a child while his father was in debtors prison, but the fact is Charles Dickens would not be Charles Dickens if he did not have those experiences.He met his future characters in his book while he had those awful experiences.
