If you still have a background when using the UA option of povray, deactivate the depth cueing (in the display window), it worked for me. This option interferes somehow with the background but I didn't investigate further

Yes, it is almost same, please use POV-RAY for rendering.

This OS is Ubuntu. Check your software updates. For example POVRay.
