Door started not closing on a consistent basis. Sometimes it closed sometimes it went half/full way then just beeped. Then the cable snapped. Had to buy the whole motor assembly because they don't sell just the cable separately. Popped out the door hinge pin with vice grips instead of unbolting the hinge as shown, and I didn't have to realign the door. Thanks for the great advice! Video made it easy and my $150 ebay motor purchase saved me over $1500 at the dealership. If you're replacing the rollers on one side, just do the other too, since even if you don't notice problems now, after you remove it, you'll notice that they DID need replacing or soon anyway. You've got all your tools out and have the process fresh in your mind.

First off I'd like to thank Brian for uploading this video - it solved my door problems and I previously thought the problem was the motors inside the door! Here are some of my observations you may also find helpful.
    1. Since it is hard to see the nylon rollers until you actually remove the trolley from the track I'll say this with some certainty: If your van is over 5 years old they probably need changing. Open the slider all the way. If you can pull on the rear of the slider (by the trolley) away from the van and the door appreciably moves - you need to change them. If the bracket holding the rollers can be pivoted as you yank the door towards or away from the van, you need to change them. If your door gets hung up and retracts then you likely need to change them. Three of the four of my rollers were GONE and the remainder was good for nothing.
    2. The inside bolt holding the bracket to the door is hard to get your socket over squarely. The socket driver's head bumps into another part of the trolley. The result is a rounded bolt head and a huge problem. The creative solution to removing this bolt was one of two huge time-sucks. A 12 mm open/closed-end wrench would have saved me almost one hour's time. Well worth the purchase as most of us only have metric sockets, I imagine.
    3. I find that as plastic ages, parts that should snap together just snap off. I really didn't want to open the inside rear of the van if I didn't have to and have to listen to years of rattle as the plastic cover's been broken and is now loose. I read a review on an auto parts site that said there is just enough slack in the cables to negate the need to enter from the inside and release the tension. Uh, sort of. The only way to do that is to MUSCLE the cable and the only way to do that is by vice gripping the cable and greatly wrenching it in place. On my van I got one side but at a cost to my cable. You will wear away the plastic coating and nick it fairly well. I now worry about a rusting cable. The other side I found impossible even with some creative attempts. This was my other big time-suck. I finally had to bend a part of the trolley out of the way, muscle the cable end into place, and hold it there while I bent the piece back in place. It's impossible to know if this was the right move because I'll never know if I would have messed anything up by entering the rear of the car. Even when I found the second side impossible I still resisted entering the rear - I guess I was fairly confident something would have snapped and then I would have just transferred my broken trolley problem into a broken rear, inside panel problem.
    4. No endorsement one way or another here - just an observation. The parts on Amazon highlighted above have, at the time of this writing, received one star 45% of the time.
    Thanks again, Brian.

Thanks for the Information! This worked great. Replaced Passengers side. Mine is a 2005 EX-L. First had to reset the Door Controller just to get door to move. This is done by removing F7 from Fuse box on Drivers side, turning Key to ON position, then off, Put back fuse and then door would move to get to all screws(learned on another video ). Also Lubed rail with Synthetic grease before re-assemble. Thanks again. Great Video.

On my 2008 EX-L I did this without releasing the tension... no problem... saved a lot of work on that inside stuff. Eric O. has the book-beater video on this. I used the floor jack with a 2x4 under the door, just easier.

Great video. I'll probably never work on one of these, but can still learn stuff. New word: those lines near the head of the pin on the trolley that need to be banged out: "knurls". They are made the same way as diamond shape knurls for grip on tools etc. You probably knew that. Nice place. Congratulations! Thanks for doing this.

briansmobile1 Thanks Brian for this! When I was a Tech at Honda I did this a bunch of times. They used to come with everything so you wouldn't have to take the hinge apart. I would mark the hinges with a wax pen before I removed them to make it easier to align the new ones. Another issue with the Odyssey power rear doors is the contacts on the door and the b pillar I would take a pencil with a piece of sandpaper on the end of the erasers to clean the contacts. Studio/Garage looks good. So your going to build another garage in the space you showed? Thanks again for all the videos! Congrats again on the new place!

2005 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING - RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN, BY INTERIOR REMOTE BUTTONS OR KEY FOB. WILL NOT OPEN MANUALLY INSIDE OR OUT. SOUNDS LIKE MECHANICS ARE WORKING, YOU HEAR MOST CLICKING, BEEPING LIKE MOST THINGS ARE TRYING TO OPEN, BUT NO MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER. SO IT FEEL MORE LIKE THE LOCK, OR ACTUAL LATCH IS NOT - UNLOCKING/LATCHING. (?)(?) . . . WHAT DOES THIS SOUND LIKE? WHAT WOULD COST OF PARTS AN LABOR RUN? I JUST DON'T THINK I CAN DISMANTLE A DOOR THAT WON'T OPEN AND TROUBLE SHOOT.

Great video, thanks Brian! Long story but I ended up cutting the guide wire on the driver's side sliding door since the door was jammed big time, came off track, we were in a rush and I didn't know what I was doing at the time... I was thinking to myself... "wires are cheap and replaceable" but I have a feeling that it is part of the motor assembly? Am I screwed because I did this or is it easy to replace the wire? Thanks for your help.

If you get in a jam and need this door to close here is what you do - put the car in drive and start to move, barely need to be moving, close the door. It will override everything else.
This is for people stuck somewhere and need the door to just close.

@ briansmobile1 Great tutorial. I followed it to the letter and when i removed the hinge i found that both of the small rollers were completely gone. One issue however, when i finished installing the new hinge and put everything back together the power door would not fully close at the end. The door travels very smoothly towards the closing point but it just won't fully latch. Also the door will not open under power now either. It is very smooth manually-much-much smoother than the other side-which will work under power-I will need to replace that hinge soon I suppose. I was afraid that maybe i misaligned the hinge when reinstalling it. I thought maybe i lifted the door too far with my jack when attempting to support it. I fiddled with it for a few hours adjusting the door alignment but still haven't had any luck. Any thoughts on whether alignment could cause this to occur? Or maybe I have another issue going on. Thanks in advance

I need to do this exact job, the door cable is broken..... so I'm having trouble even opening the door, and I've tried everything..... yes, Ive turned off the power doors and tried to manually open it, but it still will not open..... what next..... I need to open the door to get to that screw to pull the outside panel off first.

Before disassembling- how did you determine it was the center roller? Is this the most common to go bad? Thanks.

How do I know if the door won't open or close because of the trolley or if it's due to the Actuator Assembly?

Did you ever diagnose this? I have a similar situation but dont know which

    • @ckenisell
      @ckenisell 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Ken Dudley I just followed this video. The trollies needed replacing. The plastic wheels become brittle and break off. Once that is replaced, you can then determine if you have problems with the motor. I would say that this is step 1. The motor replacement would be step 2.

U dont have to do any of the interior stuff to have the sliding door bushings replaced. Pull the cables out of their little housing with a pair of pliers.thats a 30 min job .

No wonder those doors fall off so often. Have seen them fall off while the van is in motion, though admittedly one was a Nissan E20 that probably had the door open and close a million times or more. Fell off as he was driving, and the conductor simply walked back to fetch it, like it happens all the time.

okay there is no need to remove anything on the inside, you can release the cable outside just pull it with a pliers
